Sorry Lori, I just saw your response. Yes they were in Chicago in the 1920's and 1930's. I have no info on Thomas Curley's parents. I do know from the 1930 census, that he was born in Kansas City, MO.
Was there a cousin who was a priest? Have lost touch with the family and would like to reunite.
Judy

I have sent a couple of private replies to Julie, but in case anyone else anyone else is working on this couple. I don't see a connection between this family and mine at the moment. Michael CURLEY died in 1915 and his death certificate can be seen on familysearch.org under the Record Search pilot project.

Searching for Sarah Malone Curley (abt.1857) of Ballinrobe, County Mayo Connection?

Looking to see if anyone who has been researching the Curley's of County Mayo might have made a family connection to Sarah Malone Curley (abt.1857)who was born in Clogernagh West, Addergoole, County Mayo abt. 1857 to John Malone(abt. 1818) and Mary Gibbons Malone (abt. 1833).

According to 1901 census, a Sarah and Hugh Curley lived in Ballinrobe, County Mayo and operated a drapery shop. I have info. they might have met and married in Dublin abt. 1890. They had two children Mary Curley (abt 1895) and Patrick Curley (abt. 1897).

Looking to see if this Sarah Malone Curley was the surviving sister(out of 5 other siblings) of my ggrandfather Peter Malone (abt. 1854-1927) who emigrated to the USA and settled in Lowell, MA. According to Peter's obit. Sarah was still living in Ireland when he died in 1927.

Hoping that this info. may lead to locating relatives in Ireland for when I make my "roots" visit next Fall.

Thanks,
Tom Malone

Hi Diana, I was at the Gloucester City Hall Archives recently with my sister-in-law Fran Mondello...Her husband Geno's mother was a Curley. We saw your information there and we cannot find the connection. Perhaps we could meet you there sometime and see if there is a way we can fit what I/we have to your line. I have Michael CURLEY b. 1861 d. 1915 (says buried at Oak Hill, but cannot find him or his wife Mary FALLON) as the son of Michael and Mary (BURKE) CURLEY...no other information on either parent as of yet. I don't think they came to the US. Please feel free to contact me at: nummy222@yahoo.com Thank you very much, Julie

Curley Family History

I would like any information on the whole Curley clan. I'm from Detroit,MI and I have always wondered where my name came from, and if I have any family members who could shed a little light on where our family begins and ends. If anyone out there can enlighten me, I would truly appreciate it. My grandfather's name was John Curley and he was married to Lucy Curley (Nelson). My dad's name was Roosevelt Curley. I think it would be great if a giant Curley family reunion could take place. Thanks for any assistance.

Michael Curley of Kilbegnet, Co. Galway

I suspect that my grandfather, Michael Curley, is to be identified with Michael Curley, son of William Curley and Honoria Morrissy of Leahive, Co. Galway, who was born on 25 July 1873, and baptized at the R. C. parish of Kilbegnet on 7 August 1873. Younger siblings are: Mary, b. 10 January 1875; William, b. 28 April 1879; Margaret, b. 11 June 1881; Eileen, b. 2 October 1883; John, b. 22 July 1890; and Thomas, b. 17 August 1892. Does anyone know any reason why this Michael Curley should NOT be indentified with my grandfather, who settled in Wilkes-Barre, Pa, about 1890?

Thanks for the reply. Your's was the first. I will go back to the census records I have and check the neighbors to see if they put in more than Ireland. I have searched both the US and England. Found hin in US but have many William Curley's yet to check in England. I am also trying to correlate where the Curley's were in Irish Counties to Parishes and church records in 1840 Ireland.

You might try looking at the censuses for the Curleys in both England and US. Sometimes they put more information than just "Ireland". Also, quite often, people tended to settle near people who originated from the same area. So check if any other Irish nearby specified where they were from. It isn't any guarrantee, but it could give you a clue.

Bridget's maiden name was Delany. After James' death (of dysentery) Bridget married John Collins, c. 1870. Bridget and John Collins are my maternal great grand parents. I have a copy of James Curley's death certificate and I have the Cemetery's list of those interred with him in Calvary (Sect. 7, range 25, plot Y, grave 9), and they are two children of Bridget and John, a cousin of mine, and a friend of the family. Bridget was born in Ireland in 1838 in County Roscommon. Her parents were Robert Delany and Honora Rock. Bridget died in New York City on 18 March 1916. I'd be happy to send copies of the documentation I have.

I know the first Geoghegan, of Caherduff, sister came to Bangor, Maine and stayed with Geagan,Gehgan,Gagin, all of the above spellings. She then sponsored my GM to come, and then the last sister to America arrived a few years late. Three sisters went to Australia. All we are told is the 3 CURLEY Nuns who would visit in Australia, were somehow related?
..
I am
Carolanne

I'm looking for information on Patrick Curley (and kin) who immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts 3.3.1849 at age 22. Other Curleys on the same ship were: Ignatious age 18, Bernard age 30, Thomas age 14, Catherine age 12. In 1850 Patrick married Margrett Coyle in Cambridge, MA. By 1860 Patrick was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with children: Bernard, Emma, Anna and Alice.

Bernard -- who went by the name Corley -- eventually lived in St John, New Brunswick, Canada before relocating about 1900 back to Cambridge, Massachusetts with his family,

Seeking Irish home of William Curley

My maternal great grand father William Curley came from Parr near St. Helens in England about 1870. He lived in New York City with his wife Mary(Collins) Daughter Ellen, born 1866-England; Son Thomas, born England 1867; Son Peter, my grand father, born NYC 1871; Son William, born 1877 NYC; Daughter May, born 1879 NYC and Daughter Nora, born 1880 NYC. Both William and Mary listed Ireland as their home country. I'd like to find our home town. William was born about 1840 and his fathers name was Peter, according to marriage certificate.. I'm checking Griffith valuation any other ideas?

The potato famine of the 1840s forced many Irish families to travel to other parts of the UK. It was relatively easy as it was all the same country, so no immigration laws.

I have a Catherine CURLEY (b. 1857 possibly in England) who married John CAVANAUGH in 1873 in Scranton, PA. The Cavanaughs lived in Scranton, although my grandfather John Francis CAVANAUGH moved to Baltimore to work at Sparrow's point in the 1940s.

Other ancestors, such as Martin CARROLL was born in 1843 in Ireland, fled to England with is parents as a boy, married an English girl in 1864 in a Catholic Chapel (England was also Protestant), immigrated to Scranton in 1873.

Does this ring any bells? Happy to share.

Hello Carolanne, Caherduff is in the parish of Labane, Co. Galway and these Geoghegan's would not be related to my Geagan families who were from the parish of Boston, Tubber, Co. Clare. Your best advice would be to write to the Parish Priest, Labane, Ardrahan, Co. Galway and ask him for the information you need. There might be a small fee - depending of the priest. I would be interested to know how you get on. We might get another way if not successful, but try to steer clear of Heritage Centres as they are very expensive and not always accurate.
Regards, Margaret Carr

Hello Maura, Catherine Cahill and Thomas Curley were next door neighbours in Ballyaneen. We understand they had one child, a son, Patrick who married Brigid Cooney. They had four sons and one daughter. Thomas and my great-grandfather, John were brothers and the land was divided between them.
I also believe it was an uncle of Thomas & John who moved to Cloone about the time of the famine. You have some lovely cousins in Cloone. All the graves are side by side in Kiltartan.
Looking forward to hearing from you again.
Margaret (Curley) Carr

HI Ann

Really dont think Scotland was that bad. The majority of my relations from all four grandparents floated between Ireland and Scotland depending on where the work was and how homesick they were. They would have lived in areas with people of the same faith and nationality and there are still some areas around Glasgow for example which would be referred to as irish, catholic or protestant though not exclusively so.
So I dont think that even back then that it was that bad.

Regards
John

Hi,

I still do not know where the Curley's came from. I just know Mary Curley was married to Milton Ditmyer(Ditmire, Ditmyre). They had 5 or 6 kids and did live in West Troy/Watervliet, NY. Mary died giving birth to twins in 1893.

I wonder if they all moved to MASS. since I have not had much luck in locating all of them.

I believe several kids(Susan Ditmire and Catherine McCarthy) are buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Watervliet, but not everyone is there. They used Parker Bros. Funeral home for burial services.

Does this sound familar to anyone?

I've been hunting for information on James, born in Ire. His first son was born in 1851 in NY and then the other children were born in PA. He moved to TN and was there in 1970 (census) but I lose him from there...cant' find death information so I don't know if he went back up north and east or died in TN...
Well, if you have more or want to discuss, just let know....
Susan
