I am interested in the John M. Curnutt family that lived in Harrison, AR. John was first married to Louisa Albright who died, and then he married Rachel Stewart. In Rachel's will, she left some things to John Carroll Barker, whose mother Margaret Elizabeth Stewart was her sister. Thank you, Linda Wilson

Hello, I am searching for information on the John Curnutt m. Louisa Allbright family who lived in Craighead County, AR. When Louisa died, John moved to Boone County,AR, and married a woman named Rachel J. I am hoping that she is Rachel J. Stewart. Would your book have any info on Rachel? John and Rachel had one child who died. However, John and Louisa had quite a few. Thanks, Linda Wilson

I am searching for information on the John Curnutt m. Louisa Albright family from Arkansas. I am interested in John's second wife, Rachel J. She may be Rachel Jane Stewart, the sister of my great grandfather. I believe that I have found John and Louisa in Craighead County, AR, in the 1860 census. Rachel Jane Stewart is seen living there also but in a different township: Powell. (John and Louisa lived in Jonesboro.) I have been unable to find Rachel after this. However, Rachel's sister, Margaret Elizabeth Stewart who married John Wesley Barker, left Craighead County in 1873 to move to Newton County, AR, which is adjacent to Boone County. John and Rachel were married in 1870, but I have been unable to find a record of this marriage in Boone County. I noticed that John M. Curnutt and Rachel J. Curnutt are buried in Eoff Cemetery along with Margaret Elizabeth's son, John Carroll Barker. I have also seen, tonight, that Rachel J. Curnutt has a will in Boone County, and I hope to get it soon. Would you happen to know Rachel's maiden name? My Rachel Jane Stewart was b. Sept., 1831 in TN. Her parents, John and Jane Leach Stewart were married in IL. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Linda Wilson

Did you ever get the CURNUTT information you were searching for? I just chanced upon your wow 1999 & 2001 posts.

One of the replies to your post, including my own mentioned my mother, and her research. She lived in Hobbs, New Mexico.

Upon her death I inherited her files, adding the information to my own.

As you no doubt know, there are several strings of CURNUTT's, at least two out of Tenn., and some of each (that I'm aware of) made their mark in Ark, N.M. AND Arizona, confusing things.

I think you are connected to one of the 'other' Curnutt lines, of which I may have a little data I've picked up over the years.

If your still hitting a brick wall, contact me and I'll search those files. If I remember correctly, the line in N.M. were NW of El Paso, ranchers there and in Arizona.

Our brick wall is with James Harris Curnutt, b. TN, md. in MS, moved to Ark (to the town one of the 'other' lines settled, just to confuse things) the on to western Ark., south of Fort Smith in a couple of towns that no longer exist. His line extends mostly in Fort Smith area, eastern Oklahoma, a few in Texas, and westward as time/jobs/and fate moved them.

Cordially,
Tommy Kircher
I have just moved to Fort Myers, FL.
My second cousin, Suzanne Thrasher,is organizing a family reunion at Lake LBJ this May 7-8,2010.
I am trying to find where one Sam Curnutt fits. He was moved in 1935 from Brown Cemetery in Campbell Co., TN to Bakers Forge Memorial Cemetery in 1935 with the TVA grave relocation project. The paperwork shows BD and DD of 1790-1850. He was moved to the same plot with Nancy E. Curnutt (same BD, DD) and two children simply listed as "Child" Curnutt with one having a BD/DD 1850-60 and the other as 1844-1850. Both adults died of Typhoid, the children cause of death was listed as unknown. Of course the info and dates are only as good as the later relative's word. I am looking for their connection to others moved with them, some of them my family (perhaps). Any "bone" thrown will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Ben:Sorry to be uninformed, but where is pryor? My ancestors migrated from VA>TN>MO>KS with a possible stop in KY between VA and TN. I have documented back to John Curnutt 1788, my ggggrandfather. The line continues through David 1814, Henry 1849, Charles 1876, my father Herbert to me.I know that various members of the Curnutts in MO migrated to OK then to WA with some staying in OK, AR, KS IN and probably other states. I would be happy to share any info I have that you think would be of interest to you.

My great-grandmother was Sarena Angeline Curnutt born about 1852-54 in Miller County, Missouri. Her father was William Curnutt and her mother was Elizabeth Miller. Sarena was the youngest child of the family. Two of her siblings were Sarah and James. I think that she was the fifth child. Her dad, William was born in the 1820s in Tennessee and married Elizaabeth Miller in Cole County, Missouri May 12, 1836 and died about 1852-54 shortly after her birth. Her mother later remarried a man by the last name of Lamb. Sarena (also spelled Cerena in some records) married Daniel Boone Callaway Neal in the 1870s, had five children, three whom lived to old age (including my grandmother, Lola Mae Neal Ruff), the other two died in early childhood. Sarena died about 1886-88 in Jerico Springs, Cedar County, Missouri. I can't find any information on her father and my grandmother couldn's remember her mother because she died when grandmother was a small child. If you have any information on William Curnutt I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, drsjennings

O.K. so here is a crazy story I was in foster care most of muy life and never knew who my father was, but recently was able to get information on him. My father Ovey Lee Curnutt was my birth father. His father my Grand Father was Arvis Curnutt and Married to a Mollie. I believe he had a brother named Ben Curnutt. Ovey Lee Curnutt was born in 1933 and died in 1999. His father Arvis Curnutt was born 1892 and died in 1971. I was wondering where my Grandfather Arvis is connected to the curnutt family. Would your book be any help to me? I would appreciate any help you can give me. I have no pictures or anything of my birth family. However, I was able to contact one of my father sons also Named Arvis and he is going to send me one of my father. If you have any pictures of my grandfather that would be great. thanks again and appreciate any help!!!!

Mother-in-law R. R. Wadkins also lived with them.

1920 Census-Blocker, Pittsburg, OK lists David W. and Liddie J. Cornutt with children Jack L., David W., Bessie M. and Lola R.
Since my Curnutt ancestors lived in MO from 1830-1912, I have quite a few records of Curnutts in MO. As you may know, Boonslick is a region rather than a town and encompasses the counties of Cooper, Howard and Saline in total and parts of adjoining counties. The only B.F. Curnutt I could find was Benjamin Franklin Curnutt s.o. Reuben. He is listed in the 1850 census, 16 yrs. old, living at home in Pettis County. The upper part of Pettis is part of the Boonslick region. Additionally, his father Reuben is listed on the 1860 census living in Howard Co. Boonslick Twnship (can't find B.F. on any other censuses). Bird C. Curnutt lived in Cole and then Camden Counties. Don't think he's your man.

Tom,

I haven't any information for you. Sorry. I may of had at one time, but that was lost due to a hard disc crash.

I had compiled an impressive amount of Curnutt data at the time, and thought I had backed it up well. I just haven't had the desire to return to that line, yet. Moving on to other projects.

I seem to recall however that Bird Curnutt's middle name was Calvin. That there were TWO Bird Curnutts. One of them (or maybe each) married in Missouri. Pettis county comes to mind, but not sure.

I know that isn't much help. About 6 or 7 years ago there was an active group of Curnutt researchers on the internet of ancestry 'n Rootsweb. The driving force of that unit passed away and the thing just fell apart afterward. Yo might luck out and locate one of them, maybe searching old posts they might have the information your looking for. (sorry can't recall the woman's name).

I'll keep your name and e:mail on my board beside my desk in the event I stumble onto something.

Good luck,
Cordially,
Tommy Kircher
Fort Worth, Texas

Hello. I just happened to come across your message while looking for clues of my Missouri ancestors. I am very curious to learn if the Preston Curnutt you mention writing a letter from Nodaway Co., MO in 1842 was married to Elizabeth Campbell. My Campbells lived in Campbell County, TN and I think there may be a connection between my Joseph Campbell born abt 1790 & Elizabeth Campbell who married a Preston Curnutt 1839 (in Campbell Co., TN) and later moved to Nodaway Co., MO. I have read that Preston & Elizabeth had a daughter named Pheriba J. Curnutt and my Joseph Campbell's grand-daughter was also Pheriba Jane Campbell (born 1842). Please let me know if the Preston Curnutt letter can provide any clues that connect to my Campbell family in Campbell Co., TN. Thanks very much.

Shortly thereafter my home was hit by two hurricanes which did considerable damage. It took almost a year to put my home back together.
Two weeks ago we were hit again by Hurricane Wilma, which damaged our home again.
I am sorry to say, I am unable to do research or do any work on a webpage.
