My wife is descended from an Archibald Currie, born in Kilarrow, Islay around 1800. He was one of the first settlers in Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. Our Archibald died in Ontario in 1880. He married a Mary Keith in Renfrew Scotland in 1830

After searching the Islay Parish Records, I assumed that this Archibald was the same Archibald born to Archibald Currie and Elizabeth Montgomery.

Re: Family fo Neil Currie and Mary Ann Bradley

My great-grandmother, Ellen Currie married John Gerard of Gerard Island, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of Mary Ester Balcom and Archibald Currie. Archibald was the son of Sergeant Neil Currie and Mary Ann Bradley. He was born in 1808. Neil Currie and Mary Ann Bradley were in Sheet Harbour and on a viticuling list in 1784. Kim Stephens in his history of Eastern Shore families says that Mary was the widow of a Major Bradley and her maiden name was Marie Anne
Catherine de Fleury. I have yet to confirm that.

Roger Gerard

CURRIE in Homeworth, Knox Township, Columbiana County, Ohio

I recently found an old envelope that Jane CURRIE of Homeworth, Ohio received from Moffat, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland in 1885. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on Homeworth, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). I want to determine if Jane or her parents (names unknown) emigrated to Ohio from Moffat, Scotland and if this envelope is helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Yes I am. My grandmothers maiden name was Camm. George Camm would be my GGGGreat Grandfather. His son Charles married Catherine Currie. They had A son Thomson who married Grace Robertson Miller. Their Daughter Annie Camm was my grandmother. I have very little on this line and would certainly like to know more.

While scanning the Currie message boards ,I saw several possible connections. Rather than respond on an individual basis, I submit the following;

My ggm was Agnes Currie born 1846 in Stair,Ayr
My ggf was James Allan born 1844 in Kilmarnock

They were married in 1865 in Riccarton, Ayr.

There were 9 children that I know of as follows:

Robert- born Hurlford 1869
James - Born  Hurlford 1871
John - Born Motherwell 1873
Samuel- born Craigneuk 1876
Matthew-born (?)            1878
William-  Born  (?)            1882
Daniel-    Born  (?)            1883
*  Louis - Born Cumnock   1887
Jacobina-Born Cumnock 1887

* Louis was my gf who was born Oct.,1887. He carried the middle name
McLuskey. I do not know its origin. He Emigrated to Canada and was
married in Winnipeg on Aug.1,1911. I do not know if he and Jacobina were
twins or if she was born early in 1887.

Does any of this tie into anyones' research ?

Thanks

Jim Allan
