Hi Margaret,

I attach a copy of explanatory note regarding this post,
from the National Archive, Bishop Street, Dublin -
www.nationalarchives.ie.

Unfortunately, very few are available.

RC records and in many instances State records are not available prior to 1870, due to political instability
in Ireland. Killannin has no RC parish records prior to
1875 and Knock/Inverin which had been a part of Killannin is
similar.

Regards,

Jim

Diana, any information you can supply will be so appreciated! I've just begun this search and immediately hit a dead end. The older folks who could have illuminated the situation are long gone and my husband seems never to have inquired. His grandfather was Thomas Robert Currin, known as T.R., died 1947 in Ardmore, Alabama. It is my understanding that this branch of the family, after coming from Ireland (?) and settling for a time in North Carolina, eventually moved to Tn/Al. Thanks for any info. lfcurrin@aol.com or hotmail.com

Gordon, could one of the three Currin brothers you mention be Thomas Robert who settled in Ardmore, Alabama (right on the Al/Tn border)? T.R., as my husband's grandfather was known, lived there until his death in 1947. He married a widow (?) called 'Nannie' Gatlin and had 3 sons and 1 daughter. He was a good and honest man, well respected and kind. Lettie (lfcurrin@hotmail.com)

Glad to hear that someone is making progress with the Currin line. It's rather 'late in the day' for me to begin trying to discover my husband's family as most all the older ones are now gone so there's no one to ask.

Hope this information is helpful to your own search:

Van Buren Currin (1904-1971) m. Helen Pauline Commons b.1914 d.1975 or '76 Fayetteville, Tennessee
Thomas Robert Currin (1863-1947) m. 'Nannie' Gatlin (widow) Ardmore, Alabama
(children of T.R.: Van Buren (4 sons), Wilburn (no children), Woodard (1 son, 1 daugher) and Annie Lee (never married).

I believe this branch of the Currin family moved from North Carolina to southern Tennessee and northern Alabama long ago but I cannot locate any information about them beyond what is listed above.

Any help you can offer will be appreciated. Good luck and thanks!
He had a son Willard Currin borned (i think 1901, his second son Norman Ray Currin borned Dec 18, 1903 was my father. I don't know my grandmothers name she died when my father was 6 years old. Lucious married a women name ( I'm not really sure about this) Lila Mae and they had five other children.

There has to be a connection. Many of my relatives on that side of the family were very, very fair skinned. Belle was listed as a five year old on her master's list of slaves in his will when he died. Do you have any pictures? It is always neat to see the resemblance. When I received information from Gordon Howard, he said that the Currins looked so much alike that no matter which "side" of the family, you could see the resemblance. The name Alf probably shows a connection, as well.

My ggrandmother Frances A. Pafford was living with her daughter(Mattie F.Pafford Currin) and son in law Robert Currin in the 1920 Smyth Co. Virginia census. I am trying to find out when she died and where she is buried. Her husband John H. Pafford died in 1905 and is buried in the Nelson cemetary near Sugar Grove, Va. My grandmother Frances was born Frances A. Nelson to John Tevis Nelson and Catherine Williams in 1851 in Smyth Co. Virginia. Her father John Tevis Nelson, her mother Catherine and some other family members are also buried in the Nelson cemetary near Sugar Grove. Would like any info on any of this family - Have made many inquires and have not gotten any information. I do know that Frances A. Nelson had a brother by the name of Jasper.

Thanks for replying. I know little about the Currins except for what I have from the 1920 census. Frances A. Pafford, Mattie's mother was a widow living with Robt. and Mattie so she could very possibly be buried in the Currin cemetary in Sugar Grove.Frances was my ggrandmother. Frances' son Worley Pafford (my grandfather) was killed in an accident at work in 1927 in Sioux City, Ia. His 5 children were sent by train to Sugar Grove to stay with relatives until their mother could be found. One of these children was my father who was 7 at the time. Thanks for the info. - Cindy
