James Mushaway

I am researching James Mushaway born in Boston or N.H. around 1800. He is the father of Lucy Ann, Caroline, possibly George and the husband of Susan Draper. His father was John F. or (Jean Francois Mazraie Giron)who was born in France. I have been finding conflicting research regarding the relationships of these people. Looking to possibly straighten this out. Any help would be appreciated.

Well now, just came across your post. I am the son of Edward Curtin, DOB 1908. Denis Curtin and Mary Sheehy were my grandparents. We have been to Knocknagoshel twice now to visit Charles Curtin (my father's first cousin, son of Denis's brother Charles, the sons of Martin Curtin and Mary Ann Curtin) and his wife Nora (nee: Mulchrone), and all our Curtin cousins including my namesake Eamon. We have Margaret Curtain of Australia to thank for locating our Irish relatives.
Who are you? I live in NYC, and would love to hear from you. All the best, Ed Curtin (ed@lexed.com)

Hi BRENDAN.
There are two William Curtin's in that family line that were both alive in 1909.
1) William Curtin, my grandfather's (Michael Curtin) younger brother. William took over the family farm in Kilmore. He was 14 in 1909. From the 1901 census records, we don't think it was him because from the census we calculated that John was about 79 in 1909 when he died.

2) William and Michaels grandfather also named William Curtin lived in Kilmore also and was about 65 in 1909. This William is probably the guy you are looking for.

Just to paint a picture of the whole tree we currently have going backward:
Michael Curtin's son was
William Curtin Senior (option 2 above) who son was
Michael Curtin who bought a farm in Castlelack (about a mile away from the kilmore farm) who had William B Curtin who is my Father and still lives on the farm (with the most of my family) in Castlelack.

Please e-mail me what you wish to know. Can we also get information on how William is related to John. My wife is working on this and has quite a bit of information. We'd gladly send you what we have.
Regards
Liam and Mely Curtin

I cannot trace them past TN. but know the time forward.

I know our J.P. was before your time but the names are often repeated. His only son, was Carroll Christopher Clements.

Did your husband's family leave ever reside in TN, AL?

Looking for descendants of David Curtin and Bridget Smith/Colbert. Bridget was the daughter of Mary Coleman and probably Martin Smith - her mother married John Colbert that's why Bridget sometimes used that name.

Bridget and David were both born in Ireland and emigrated to NYC. Bridget was probably born in County Waterford. They lived on East 130th Street.

David died around 1895 and Bridget remarried - James Trainor.
They lived on West 131st Street.

Bridget and David had more than 10 children but not all survived.
Among the children are: James, Martin, David, Annie, Kate, Margaret, Mary and Garrett. Garrett had no children.

I am from the Curtin family of Jersey City. My ggrandmother was Margaret Curtin who did marry Daniel O'Keefe in Jersey City. Very limited knowledge of Curtin family. I "learned" most from this message board and from Margaret from the other side of the world! My desire is to learn more about the Curtin family history and Jersey City history. My mother (Lester maiden name) was born in Jersey City, but the family moved out and headed to Monmouth County, New Jersey. But we never went to Jersey City. So it is all new for me. My father did say that Margaret Curtin had gone blind from diabetes.

I did go to the Jersey City Library for the 1st time and plan to return for family research.

If anyone can help me fill in the blanks concerning Curtin and/or O'Keefe it is appreciated, familytrace2fsk

The Margaret Curtin I refer to was married to a Patrick O'Connor, had 14 children and lived in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland. She was my husband's grandmother and when at the age of 15 in 1939 he visited her in Ireland she would have been somewhere in her 70's or 80's. I have information as to the O'Connors but nothing about the
Curtin side.
I am looking for information on Margaret Curtin who was born in 1846 in Ireland. She married Daniel McCarthy and Immigrated to New York. Her husband was from Cork,Ireland. I think from the census that she immigrated in 1856 and married in 1865. I know she had two children John born in 1878 and Julia in 1886. On the 1900 censue it list that she had six children. I only know of two that existed. She live in 1880's in New York City and later moved to Winfield,Herkimer,New York. Any information on her or her decendans would be helpful. Or how I can find out more about her and the missing childre.

Hello
Yes, I remembered that we had corresponded as I hit the send button ! I'm still trying to move forward with my Curtin line. I think I found John Joseph Curtin's baptism record (9/7/1851) in St Peter and Paul parish of Cork, with William Curtayne as father and Charlotte Humphry as mother. The mothers are very confusing. I now think that there may be 2 families in the file 29 you kindly sent me. The one featured in the 1861 census may not be my ancestors. Thomas Curtin was born in 1859 and his mother was Julia, not Margaret who features on the 1861 census with William Curtin. I think the family consisted of William, Julia, John Joseph, Thomas Bartholomew and and William Daniel, the last two dying before they married/grew up. I am really stuck though on whether William married Julia in London - no records yet, and of course the mother cited in John Joseph's baptism is not Charlotte or Charlotte was not the mother but may be god mother.
Not sure if this makes any sense to you. I would love to hear if you have any further information. I was hoping to get to Chicago but now it looks unlikely.
Regards
Bernardine O'Connell

Curtin Surname Gathering - Irish American Heritage Center, Chicago, IL USA June 24-26-2011

We are holding our bi-annual Gathering, this time in the United States. We will not be back here for 4 year so do not lose this opportunity. The first day, Friday the 24th will be held at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago which is a short train ride into the city on the Northwest side from the hotel which is just East of the airport.

In addition to a tour of the museum and its rich Chicago historical perspective on the Irish diaspora which led to help build and run this city, we will hold our lectures and talks about Chicago Irish history, and cover several local Curtin families including the family of our Chief, Dan Curtin. We will end the evening with a visit to the Center's Pub and Irish music on Friday evening for those who want to "tip a pint" and socialize with the other Curtins present.

Our second day, Saturday the 25th will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in a meeting room with talks on various topics including an update of the Clan DNA study, Margaret Curtain's continued work, the election of new officers of the Clan and a historical play, culminating in the popular traditional Clan banquet with more Irish music and dance that we have had at all of our previous Gatherings.

Sunday, we will gather at a local church for a mass for those who are interested. The new Board of Directors will also meet on Sunday morning to start planning for the new term of two years. Those who are still around can continue to socialize at the hotel or make arrangements to see the sights of Chicago!

Go to http://curtin.org to regsiter by May 1, 2011
