Hello, I was just doing research on my family. I found this name Arthur Curvin in the records as living w/a George R. Buckner in 1860 in Dardene township in st. charles county, MO. I don't know if we are talking about the same person. I am from the Buckner family. My grandma use to tell me a story about a white Irish man (we are a black family) that had a child with her grandmother. I have just been searching every avenue and was just curious if this person has anything to do with my search. The only place I can find him is in this 1860 census in MO. feel free to email me if you have any questions or info.
Thanks,
Maurita

I looked into your post. I have found a Andrew J Curvin, wife listed as an Allie F, who was born in 1870 in Arkansas. He made his residence in Graves, Kentucky. He is listed in the Kentucky 1910 Miracode index and in the 1920 US Fed Census. in the 1910 US Fed census his name my have been misspelled to be Andrew CURRIN and he is listed to be a Junior (Jr.)but the name of his wife and the birth year are the same. He may have died in 1922 in Kentucky and would be listed in the Kentucky Death index, 1911-2000.

I am looking for information on a Lillie/Lillian/Lily Maude/maud Curvin who was my GGrandmother, Wanda Sue Tabor's, mother. her husband may have been an E. B. Tabor or Eldridge B. Tabor who i am alos looking for information on. I know she died in childbirth or shortly there after. The child (harry/henry Boyd) did survive the birth, to later be smothered while sleeping, his aunt rolled over on him in the bed. I believe she was either of Kentucky or Tennessee and that she may have been either 'full-blooded' or part native american, or that is one of the rumors. I know she had several children other than Wanda and harry/Henry. I dont know all of their names, but i can find out some of Lilly's childrens' names if needed. I hope someone can help!

Thanks

samantha

Hi, I just saw your post of a little over a year ago re: George Washington Curvin and cemetery listings. I have found his death certificate and it lists Crooks Cemetery is where he is buried. Did you ever find any cemetery listings?? I found Lettie's name on the death certificate as Lettie Glover, but it lists his father's name as "unobtainable". The informant was a Mrs. Ira Johnson, possibly his daughter?? DO YOU KNOW WHO his father was??? How are you related, on the Glover side? George's brother, James W. Curvin, was the grandfather of an old family friend, William Curvin, who just died last week here in Cullman county, Alabama, at age 104. I am trying to put together a history for his 5 remaining children. I would very much like to hear from you. Do you know Lettie's death date? I could possibly get her death certificate. you can e mail me at 2lynns@bellsouth.net.
Thanks, Lynda Brown

Am looking for anyone who has cemetery listings for the following people/and or any other data they would like to share. I am researching the Glovers. I believe the 1900 census has Letty's birthdate wrong, which is why I hope to find a gravestone entry.

Glover, Luticia md Carvin, Geo Washington 01/Apr/1852 Calhoun County, AL (in 1852 it was still called Benton County.)

*Her name was Lettie, probably short for Leticia rather than Luticia. Curvin was misspelled as Carvin.

In 1850, Letty was living with her widowed mother Mary Glover and other siblings in Benton Co. AL, later renamed to Calhoun.

I still need to find the 1860 census for GW Curvin and his family.

He was born in TN.
I believe "Wash" was in the Civil War in the same company as JW Glover, his brother in law.

GW Curvin died abt 1868.

1870: Cleburne County AL 29 June 1870 (next to Calhoun County)

Lett Curvin 38
Sarah A. 16
Nancy O. 12
James W. 10
George W. 6
William 3

after the death of Wash Curvin, Lettie and the children returned to Calhoun Co. AL The census taker did not do a good job of spelling the name, but these are the same people

1880: Calhoun Co.
Letty Curvice 48
Nancy O. 22
James W.
Thanks for the info! My last name is obviously Irish. I've always wondered about my first name, especially since I got the name from a fellow by the name of Curvin Gingrich. I had always thought that Gingrich was a Pennsylvania Dutch surname. Possibly it is. Possibly he got his first name from an Irish wing of his family.

I don't know the names you mention, but since the subject is "Curvin's from Michigan" I wanted to mention that my husband's grandfather is named Jack Curvin. He lived in Michigan, not sure what city, and served in Japan in WWII. He had three children, but the only name I know is my father-in-law, Patrick.

We are probably second cousins. Was your grandfather a Jonathan Curvin, too? My grandfather was his brother, Winthrop Curvin. As I understand it, they were never close, so the branches of the family don't know each other. But their sister stayed in touch with both of them and with me. Contact me directly at curvinc1@yahoo.com if you want--I may never find this website again!
Carrie

James CARVEN, 1753 census

I noted this same entry, but then Ancestry doesn't show such a database in the NC listings [a common error at Ancestry], so I can't answer directly. However, if you search the Chowan County deed index at
http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.asp?dbid=6203, and ask for James CARven with soundex option, you get about 150 James CRAven entries, many of which he is a grantor in the 1740's. It appears the census index may be a transposition of letters, and really refers to this [apparently] prominent landowner. CRAVENS founded Duke Univ, so there may be lots of info on this name. But I don't know any connection to CARV*N.

In reply to your message. There are lots of Curvins in the research we have done. We also know of the Irish connection and also the English. We had a letter indicating there are no more Curvins in Ireland. There was one lady who had the maiden name of Curvin. Have you found any others? I would be interested in your research also.

Am I right in assuming that Curvin is also an Irish last name? Can anyone tell me its origins or where in Ireland it came from? Thanks.
