OK, I'll try to get these scanned today for you.
I gather from your last name that you are desc. from Broton Stone's second wife, Nancy Dreisbach, not from Rebecca Custer. Is that right?

Yes, Ora would have been my great uncle and I do not have any photos of him. So thanks again. This is wonderful. I only started looking into the Custer side of the family for my uncle, who has since passed away. Now I guess I'm hooked.

OK, I'll scan the photo of "Uncle Broat STONE" and get it off to you. Are you also a desc. of Broton's son Ora STONE? because I also have a photo of Ora, if you would like it.

Also one correction to my earlier posted info: Jane BENNET, wife of Darius CUSTER was probably born in PA, but she died in 1887 in Dansville or N. Dansville NY, not in PA.

To the descendant of Broton Seth STONE: I found one more photo that says
"Uncle Broat STONE". I suppose this could be a nickname for Broton Seth STONE.
Can't think of anyone else it could be. I believe my great grandfather wrote this on the photo and Broton was indeed his uncle. If you send me or post your actual email address I can send you a scan of the photo.

I'd be happy to share data with you. Darius is also my gr gr gr grandfather through his daughter Harriet CUSTER who married William AMOS. For starters, I emailed you the basic line through the regular email address that you posted above. Did that get through to you?
Here it is again, just in case:

1. Paulus KUSTER, b abt 1644, d. 1707/1708, Germantown PA, m. Gertrude DOORS
2. Arnold KUSTER, b. 1669, Germany, d. 1739 Hanover, Phila. Co., PA, m. Gertrudt CONRATS
3. Conrad CUSTER/CUSTARD, b. abt 1695, Germany, d. 1772 Rockingham Co. VA,
m. Susannah ADAMS
4. William CUSTARD, b 1729 Philadelphia Co. PA, d.1806-1826, buried Egypt Mills, Pike Co. PA, m. Sarah SWARTWOOD
5. Isaac CUSTARD, b abt 1756, d 20 Jan 1843, Bradford Co. PA, m. Hannah (-)
6. Darius CUSTER b. 1801, d. 1862, m. 1828 in Asylum, Bradford Co. PA to
Jane BENNETT, b. 1811, d.1887 PA (their children include: Rebecca, George, Lisa, Lois, Harriet, Almina, Zora, Adelbert, Ella Ann).

The first five generations are given in the 1991 book, Descendants of Paulus and Gertrude KUSTERS, edited by Jean White, published by the Castor Association of America. Info regarding generations 4 and 5 is given in several refs., including: Our Brokaw-Bragaw Heritage, by Elsie Foster (available at www.ancestry.com), and several SWARTWOUT/SWARTWOOD books. Info re. gen. 5 and 6. is in several Bradford County PA refs., including one called Pioneers and Patriot Families of Bradford County PA, c. 1913 by C.F. Heverly. Heverly makes the tie between Isaac CUSTER the Rev. War Vet. and Darius CUSTER his son. Also, I have records from several CUSTER bibles which helped to fill in some gaps.

I have more details. You may email me at
r c a m o s 5 7 "at" g m a i l.c o m (reassemble with no spaces)

Hi Robert,
Would you mind sharing your resources on the ancestors of Darius? Darius is in my direct line (GGG-Grandfather - through Lois Custer) so I am very interested in this line. Lois married George Cook and eventually came on her own to Seattle to live with her son, Frank. She is buried at Mt. These are nice photos. One very nice one shows Nellie Custer BURDICK with a son.

Here is the connection between this branch of the CUSTER family and General George Armstrong CUSTER. These two lines are descended from different grandsons of the immigrant Paulus KUSTER who came to Germantown PA from Kaldenkirchen Germany in about 1700. The children of Darius CUSTER (i.e. Harriet, Lois, Zora, Rebecca, George, Almina, Mary/Polly, etc.) were 4th cousins to General George Armstrong CUSTER.
Here are the two lines:
Darius CUSTER (Isaac-5, William-4, Conrad-3, Arnold-2, Paulus-1)
and
General George Armstrong CUSTER (Emmanual-6, John-5, Emmanuel-4, Nicholas-3, Arnold-2, Paulus-1)

Sheesh, I think I started this string way back when you didn't have to have an Ancestry Membership to use it.
Anyhow, I'd be most appreciative of any information on the family! I haven't been able to do much research recently (work seems to get in the way of everything!) but a few years ago I researched the decendants laterally in hopes of making some connection so I do have some information to share. Please contact me cyndie@att.net
Thanks! This is very exciting as I'd pretty much exhausted what I could do with this line earlier!

My grandmother is not doing so good and there are certain things about my familys history I was unable to find the value in before she got to her position where she can no longer tell me. Her parents were Anson and Olive Custer. As far as Ive known they have always been up in New York I guess, but not quite sure...she has a bunch of famly related documents and usually shows me who she is related to in the pictures. She has land docs dated back to 1812, and paycheck stubs for a custer. I was wondering if anyone knew where she was down the line. I know there are alot of people related to custer somehow, but my grandmothers last name was custer - and she always talked about how she as a direct descendant of him. If anyone can help let me know...

John Martin Custer Picture

I have a copy of a picture of my 2nd Great-Grandfather, John Martin Custer (b. April 15, 1825 Warren Co., TN; d. Jan. 25, 1913 Oregon Co., MO) with his 6 grown daughters. Sadly, my grandmother only identified her mother, Marteely Orleana Custer, in the picture. I would so like to find another researcher of this family who might help identify the other 5 daughters. I have names, but don't know which is who. Will be more than happy to share the picture.

1. Sarah Elizabeth Custer (1847-1914) married James A. Barton.
2. Catherine Custer (1848-1926) married Hugh L. Johnson
3. Nancy A. Custer (1854-1926) married William W. Pierce
4. Margaret Paralee Custer (1856-1898) married George Marion Armstrong.
5. Elvira "Ella" Custer (1860-1943) married Jesse William Rhoades.
6. Marteely Orleana Custer (1863-1939) married James Ambrose Barton (my 2nd Great-Grandparents.)

Any help greatly appreciated.

Carlene
Missouri Ozarks

I am a great-great granddaughter of William Allen Custer, brother of your John Martin Custer. I would love to have a copy of the picture of John Martin Custer. My William died in the Civila War in Little Rock, Arkansas. I have a picture of his wife Sirena Allison Custer who was a sister to your Mary Jane Custer. I would be happy to share that with you. The picture I have is Sirene with her daughter Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" Custer Martin (my great-grandmother) and all of Lizzie's children. My mother gave this to me and all of the people in the picture are identified. If you are interested in sharing, I also have something I want to discuss with you concerning John Martin Custer since you are in his direct line.
Brenda Roland

I am searching for information on George Dewey Custer (West Virginia) and his wife Alice Hicks (Oklahoma). I know that Alice lived in California for most of her life, she returned to Kansas where she died, and she and George had 3 children all of whom lived in California as well.
Alexander S. Custer and James Cresap Custer had another brother, George Washington Custer, b. 11-21-1815, in Allegany County, Maryland. He married Sidney Ann Reed, sister of David Reed, husband of Lydia Kirkpatrick, the General's half-sister. George W. and Sidney resided many years in Monroe, Michigan, then went to Texas where he died in 1900.
George and Sidney had a son, James Cephus Custer, who died in 1901 in South Whitney, Texas.
James Cresap Custer and Ellen Dawson Custer were my great-great grandparents.

Mary I apologize.I did not mean to offend, but to enlighten. I should have said that most Custers became related to the General when he became famous. My line is included in that. My relatives were told that they were related to the general. My great-great-great-uncles obituary states that he was a cousin to the General and that the General was named after him. I have feb 1828 Pittsylvania County Virginia Court Records proving this to be untrue. Also Milo Custer in his book stated that he believed that John Dudley Custer [my line]was the son of Emanuel Custer. These court records prove this to be untrue, but this has caused many people to state it as fact. If you would like me to see if you fit into my Custer Genealogy,I will be glad to help. If not,I wish you well either way. Carl

Meaning no disrespect but your question is like asking for the Smith or Jones Family Tree. You need to be more specific like his grandfather was George Cleveland Custer and he died in 1973 in Los Angeles California, etc. I know more than anyone 0n the James Custer and Delilah Ann Brown line but I know basically nothing on the General George Armstrong Custer line. Also remember that these two lines are not related but all Custers claimed to be related when the General became famous chansen3@tampabay.rr.com

Death of Mrs. M. H. Custer

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 13 December 1890...

Horrible Accident

Paris, Texas, December 9 - A horrible accident occurred at Detroit, seventeen miles east of here, yesterday afternoon. It seems that Mrs. M. H. Custer, wafie of the editor of the New Era, was packing a trunk near the fire and had her back to it, when her dress became ignited and was soon in flames. Realizing her peril she told her children, who were very small to run out in the yard and call for assistance. The unfortunate woman then sprang in bed and covered up closely, but the flames caught the bed clothes and she ran from the house and fell in the yard, where her clothing burned from her body, cooking the flesh until portions of it fell from the bones. She lived several hours, seemingly insensible to all pain, though rational to the last.
