Do you know if in the book your dad has there are any listing of some of the family whose names changed back to Cuthbert or to Cutbirth? My oldest known ancestor was a Benjamin Cutbirth b. abt. 1746 maybe Virginia or PA. He left home when he was abt 13 and could not read or write. This is why we believe the name was something other than Cutbirth. Story is that his father died when he was young and his mother remarried. Not wanting to move into his stepfather's home he left. We find him in NC at the age of 21 and marries a niece of Daniel Boone's. The Boone family keep great records of him and his family there after, but never is there any mention of his parents. My dad heard several years ago from a Cuthbertson or Culberson that there was a book that told of several brothers that each changed their names. We were never able to find out the book.
