I found out that a relative of mine was in the IGI, and her name is Caroline Howett Cuthbertson, b. 02 Dec 1898,
, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, and she d. 04 Dec 1973,
, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland.

I have now found out she married George Hall, 21 March 1928, Govanhill, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.

I would like to make contact with other family members, both Hall and Cuthbertson, and I would like to share data with family members.

I have a Benjamin Wise b.abt. 1772 d.aft.1850 m.Sarah Cuthbertson in 1794. Do you have any information about his parents? It is believed that he was raised by the Cuthbertson Family. I have found a Phillip Wise, Jr. and Thomas Wise listed on the 1790 Census Index for Mecklenberg County, NC. along with Benjamin (in separate households). The Cuthbertson Family moved from Pennsylvania to North Carolina about 1772 (?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It has been sometime since I looked at the Cuthbertson line from Lanarkshire, Scotland that my wife Sandra belongs. I am looking for more info on John Cuthbertson who married Mary Cruickshanks, I can only think possibly in Kirkcudbright.
One son known is Allan b.1832 Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright. He married Ann Hutchison b. 1835 Kirkmichael, Ayrshire. Ann's parents were John Hutchison and Catherine Hamilton.

A long shot...My husband's grandmother, Eugenia "Janet", "Jennie" Pereira b. 1887 in Mt. Fored, Michigan married/or had a child by John Cuthbertson. The family story goes they met where they both worked in Puebleo, CO in 1914 (hospital? "insane aslyum"?). This is pretty much a dead end for me...just trying...She mainly lived in New York and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, tho' she died in BC. Canada.

As you said they moved to Ireland

Mary Cuthbertson born Abt 1851 Ireland, married Gilbert Cummings, she died Abt 1920, in Ireland
Caroline born Abt 1858, Belfast, cannot find a marriage for her, died 14th July 1914, Belfast

Robert died 24th Jan 1904, Belfast
Margaret died 11th Nov 1866

An obituary from 1938 for Thomas J. Pereira in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada mentions he is survived by "Mrs. J. Cuthbertson of this city" (presumably referring to Hamilton). I've not been able to establish a connection to this J. Cuthbertson. The sister in question is Jennie (aka Eugenia or Janet) Pereira, born about 1887, living single in Wentworth county at the time of the 1911 Canada census. She was living with her mother Sarah (nee Ball) and brothers Thomas and William, and sisters Annetta (aka Annie) and Frances.

Any leads on what happened to dear ol' aunt Jennie and her mysterious hubby would be greatly appreciated.

Searching for information on the CUTHBERTSON family of Union Co. North Carolina, in 1850. My David Hampton (commonly known as "Hamp" or "Hampton") SHERRILL, born 1830 in Statesville, Iredell Co. NC, was residing with Josiah Cuthbertson in 1850 - a physician. My Hampton Sherrell was listed as an apprentice millwright.

I would like to find my Hampton Sherrill in 1860. Please help! Does anyone have a 30 year old Sherrill/Sherrell male in their household in 1860?

I would like to find out if there is a marriage relationship between the Cuthbertson-Sherrill families. Why was David Hamton Sherrill, in Union Co and residing with the Cuthbertson family?

Possibly connected to the Simpsons, and the Littles - who also named some male children "Hampton".

I am trying to find the parents of Sarah Isabella Cuthbertson, who was born abt 1814 in Alnwick, Nbl. Unfortunately the records stop at 1812! If anyone has any Cuthbertsons in their family coming from here, could they please contact me on foggin@matra.com.au as I'm sure they are all related.
Sarah married Edward Adams (who was born in Holystone abt 1811) but I can't find any records of the marriage either!

Hello, Mary Lou, this is your cousin, Frances Cuthbertson/Foreman. I believe I've called you on the phone and corresponded with you before. I know anything you want to know about John Gaston Cuthbertson and his wife, Eliza Ann Moss. They were married in Henderson Co, Tenn in 1876 ad sold land to come to Texas by 1879, where they settled in Bowie Co, which is where my dad was born(Frank Cuthbertson). John Gaston was one of 16 children, and I've researched all of them, and found information on 13 of the 16. John's father, John Madison Cuthbertson fought for Ala in the Civil War, and I'm a member of the UDC(United Daughters of the Conferercy). You qualify for DAR through Eliza Ann Moss. I am in it. I started researching in 1995, and by 1998, I had enough good information that I wanted to share with all the family members, so I wrote a book entitled: Is it Cuthbertson, Culberson, Culbertson, or Does It Matter?. A copy of it is in the Clayton Genealogy Library in Houston. We went to see Pat about 6 weeks before he died, and I try to correspond with Myrtle. Please respond, Frances Foreman

A family book circa 1834 indicates her Uncle was John Cuthbertson, believed to be a Schoolmaster in Neath. Can anyone give me a clue, please.

Debra Marie Cuthbertson Smith, 50, of Valdosta, Ga., and formerly of Rosedale died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, in South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. She was a retired beautician, having been an owner/operator for 10 years.

She was born April 10, 1955, in Terre Haute to Max D. Cuthbertson and Gladys M. Stevenson Cuthbertson. Survivors include her father; her husband, Ronald L. Smith; three sons, Brian Batchelor and his wife, Patty of Brazil, Jeremy Batchelor and his wife, Marsha of Alna, W.Va., and Aaron Batchelor of Brazil; one stepson, Yancy A. Smith and his wife, of Fairbanks; one brother, Richard D. Cuthbertson and his wife, Donna of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother; and one stepson, Michael L. Smith.

She was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in Rosedale and was a 1973 graduate of Rosedale High School. She later earned an associate degree from Ivy Tech and graduated from Harrold Beauty Academy. She was a member of the West Terre Haute Young Men's Club.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Randy McPike officiating. Burial is in Stevenson Cemetery in northern Vigo County. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and before services Wednesday, in the funeral home.

My grandmother, Audrey Eileen Cuthbertson, was Edgar G.'s daughter and Rodney's sister.

Edgar G and his wife, Helen Lackie, moved from Pontiac County, Quebec, to Grande Prairie, Alberta. (This family decended from James and Euphemia.)

I don't know any other siblings and am wondering if this George is a brother to Audrey and Rodney.

Hello, I'm new to the list.

The Champlain Society scans and posts many documents, including journals. A James Cuthbertson was the director of the Bruce Mines, par of the Montreal Mining Company. There is also a George Cuthbertson who provided pre-1812 illustrations.

I suspect that these individuals are James, b 1771 LNK Scotland (and husband of Euphemia Turner), and George, one of his sons. The chronology works re b-dates and places.

Looking for any info on the Cuthbertson family from the Annan/Langholm area. My g-grandfather was Henry Cuthbertson, born 1863 in Annan, died 1914 in Langholm. His father was William Cuthbertson born about 1833 in Edinburgh and I believe Williams parents were William and Margaret. Henry married Sarah Jane Armstrong in Langholm in 1885 and they had nine children - Agnes, Lizzie, James, Marion, William, John Thorburn, Thomas Scoon, Catherine Scott and Christina Martin (my grandmother).

If anyone has information on my Cuthbertson line please, I would be most indebted and full of gratitude. There is a recurring name: Hugh. My gr-grandfather was named Hugh (b.1860) and so were many of his cousins, uncles etc. He was born in Ayr, Ontario, just a few years after his family immigrated from Kilmaurs (1856). His father was John Cuthbertson born/baptized July 13, 1817 (wife Margaret Montgomerie whose clan had a longgg feud with the Cunninghams). His father was George Cuthbertson, born/bapt. January 29, 1794 and George's wife was Jean Armour, born Sept. 13, 1795. I can get no further, but I believe his father was John, born 1760: John lived near George (in the 1841 census), also, George named his first son John.
Also, if anyone wants my Cuthbertson line, I will gladly copy and paste from my 'Family Tree Maker'.

The Origin of this family is supposedly William Cuthbertson, son of Cuthbert Cunningham in the 1500's. Which makes sense since the Cunninghams were settled in the Ayrshire region. I am looking for information on a Mrs. Mary Cuthbertson who lived in Washington, DC in 1970. Wanting to know if she had a son in the Navy or if perhaps she was the wife of a Navy helicopter pilot. There was a termination of parental rights mailed to her address on Massachusetts Ave but the father's name is believed to have been false. Any one out there have a Navy pilot in the family then? It was said that he was being transferred to a "permanent" duty station overseas in late 1971 - early 1972 and he had family in a "a small New England state".

Updated posting & contact information: Seeking information on CUTHBERTSON families in Lanarkshire before 1832. Looking for ALEXANDER CUTHBERTSON, born in 1808 in"Haywood Home" (Carnwath area). Other sources state Hamilton as birthplace. Emigrated to Perth, Lanark County, Ontario, in April 1832, age 24, with brother GEROGE CUTHBERTSON ands sister MARGARET CUTHBERTSON. Another sister CATHERINE CUTHBERTSON remained in Scotland in Biggar area. Believe parents also immigrated and died in Perth, Ontario: based on naming tradition and names of Alexander, Margaret, Catherine's children, names of parents may have been JOHN and MARION. George died 1838 in Perth w/o issue; Margaret married WILLIAM WEIR in 1835 and settled in Bathurst; Alexander died 1886 in Perth area; had 10 children; was carpenter, farmer, stonemason, and blacksmith -- was also my gggrandfather.

I'm trying to solve rather a mystery. My grandmother was adopted, and I have been trying to trace who her parents were. She was born Ethel Rosina Maud Spencer on 17th April 1903 in Wimborne, Dorset, England, and her parents were William David Spencer and Christiana Spencer (formerly Rideout). So far, so good. I then found her parents' marriage certificate, dated 17th June 1895 in Christchuch, Dorset (possibly Hampshire in those days). However, her father is listed as William David CUTHBERTSON, a widower of Latimer Road, Winton, whose father was James Cuthbertson. This is of course the same man - the professions on both certificates are even the same, "gas and water fitter". Has anyone come across this person, and how and why he should have changed both his and his wife's surname between 1895 and 1903? I would be very grateful if this rings a bell with anyone. I am descended from Hazel Cuthbertson, who married into the Mellish family. She was born in 1892, in New Brunswick, and had at least 8 siblings. I believe her parents were William Cuthbertson (who - family stories say - had 3 or more wives) and Hannah Jane Miller. I have a fair bit of info. on her siblings, but not very much on her parents. Hello & Bonjour! I am doing family research mostly in Ontario, but I have recently discovered that my husband's great grandmother, Charlotte Cuthbertson, was born in Quebec, on September 17, 1864, to Scottish parents. She married John A. Carr, in Fitzroy Township, Carleton County,
Ontario, near Ottawa, just over the river from PQ, about
1886. They had 12 children. Does anyone have any ideas?

correspondance from a Dr Bourn in the
Gettysburg area that states that he and
Grandfather Marcus were both decendents of

Hello!
I am 44 yrs. old and I am looking for any
information on my father, William Joseph
Cuthbertson. I have his name, but nothing
else from him. I am haunted by my not
knowing anyhting about him. I think he may
have died in 1969 or 1970, in Germany. I
was never officially informed in any way.
He was retired from the U.S. Army. I'm
waiting for information from the Army. He
left my mother before I was born. When I was
10 I lived with him for a few years, then he
sent my sister and I back to live with my
Mother back in Chicago.
I want to ask him "Why?"
