We have numerous 3rd and 4th cousins with this, and now know our exact mutation. Our easliest known ancestor connected to this was from Beaver Co., PA, born 1830. Carol Carlson

Addendum to previous post: Robert Smallwood may not have d. between 1911-1918.

My mother says Margaret Fischer Smallwood was definitely *not* Robert Smallwood's widow when she married for the second time in 1918. Margaret was *divorced* from Robert Smallwood. She may have wanted to avoid the stigma of divorce at that time by listing herself as a widow. My mother recalls Robert Smallwood not passing away until her (my mom's) early teenage years, ~1945.

She also thought Raymond Smallwood (Robert's brother) had been in WWI, but couldn't recall if Robert had served, too. Not sure how accurate any of this is. Ancestry.com lists draft registration cards for 2 Raymond Smallwood's in WV - the second one in Marshall Cty, WV. It also lists 6 Robert Smallwoods in WV, but none in Marshall Cty.

This info may or may not be helpful. My grandmother was b. in Marshall Co. WV in 1911. Her parents were Robert Smallwood and Margaret Fischer-Smallwood. My grandmother's info listed Robert Smallwood's parents as "Lander Smallwood" and "Jane Shimp" (supposedly Jane Shimp's family originally came from France and sometimes spelled the name Schimp). Robert's siblings were listed George, Hazel, Raymond and Gertrude. This list may or may not be complete. George was listed as epileptic from birth. Hazel married a Forrest Bowman. Gertrude married Forrest Bowman's brother, Jessie. Raymond's wife was named Ethel and they had a son possibly named Robert. The Robert Smallwood that was my grandmother's father d. sometime before/around 1918, as Margaret Smallwood is listed in the 1911-1918 Marshall Co. marriage records as marrying her second husband, Eugene Denton, in Marshall Co. on 30 JAN 1918. She's listed as a widow.

Seeking wife Lola Brown married to George L. Cutlip 1916. Lola has been a lula and a lou.......

She has been listed as being a Shaver in 1880 Cenus..Father and mother John Adams Shaver--Allis Newsom Shaver...????
Living in Giles Co. Va. Nicholas Co. WV...Possibly in N. Carolina, John said to be born there 1851...Allis b. 1853 Craig Co. Va.
Lola is a mystery--She uses her name Lula Shaver at about 8 in a 1880 Cenus, than she is Lula Lucas, a mother and widow and I have found nothing more on this....

She than marries Cutlip 1916 and is suddenly a Brown..Calling herself Lola Lovely Brown...

She dies I assume near Richwood, WV in McClung Hospital after an extended illness...approx.1928 . Before her death, her husband George L. Cutlip dies in there home...had been dead several days..He was not visiting Lola at the hospital, creating suspision.
He Lived in FORK MT. 2mi. east of Richwood, WV...He was once a Constable of Richwood...and a Deputy Sherrif of Braxton Co.
Emma F. Shaver is Lula's sister and marries a James Smith. She is seen near Lula in 1910 and 1920 Cenus...

I could use any help that someone may be able to give to shine a light on this strange idenity of LULA--LOLA--LOU- SHAVER/LUCAS?/BROWN/CUTLIP....
What a gal to have such names and die so young...age 55....about 1928

Him Mona,
My mom has always lived in Ohio. (Well, she was born in WV, but they moved to outside Cleveland in 1959. My grandmother is still there. My grandfather died in 1997. I will have to set some time aside to look at what I have on Ofa C. Probably not a lot. We have pictures of Ginny and G Lee Roby. It sounds like your family moved around a lot. I think my mom may have made a trip "Out West" to Utah, etc. in the 70's with my grandpa. He was interested in family history but Laura Harrison found some inaccuracies in the handwritten info he had.

I'll get back with you as soon as I can. We have 3 kids, 6, 4 and 2, and we homeschool!

Sincerely, Kimberly

Laura's husband is descended from Dana Alderson Roby. I have a question for you: Do you know where the Roby-Cutlip kids were really born and if Ofa had a birth certificate? I can not find a birth certificate for Eva C. Roby, my great grandmother. Thank you, and please email me directly if you like!
SIncerely,
Kimberly Madigan

Hello Harold: George Lee Roby is listed on the 1870 census Banks, Upshur, West Virginia with Sarah A. Robey as head of household. He is age 11, which would support the 1859 birth if we assume he is the male child listed in the 1860 census with nellie wilson. also listed is henry h robey, age 8.

Sarah is further listed ( in addition to 1880) in 1900, Sarah A. Roby, Banks Upshur, WV, and 1910, Sarah A. Roby, Banks, Upshur, WV. In the 1900 census, she says she had 10 children, 7 living - my question is: Where was John T. Robey? why didn't he appear on any census? Regards, laura

Dear Mona,
I suspect that I do not have much information that you do not already have. I found my grandfather's handwritten information which as I said my not be all that accurate in areas. It begins with Sennet Johnson Cutlip-Born in Scotland (DIed 1912). In it there is a page with Virginia Alice Cutlip at top, in which Ofa C is listed as having been born in 1889, Married Ethel Deffendahl (Betty?) Braxton County- 3 kids.

I found Opha C Roby census papers but I did not note the date or the ages-this will be easy to find on ancestry.com, as will other info, as far as it goes.

I also have some copies of correspondence you apparently made with someone who sent a "Midway Biographies" article about Jeremiah and Ruth Tucker Roby, but I don't know where the connection is there, exactly. Do you know the connection with us?

I would love to talk to you sometime!
Kimberly

I saw your messages and have a question. I am in search of my Cutlip (also seen spelled Cotlippe, on my great-grandpa's death certificate) family. Anyway, I'm really at a dead-end and have little information. My great-grandpa was Edward Ivory, son of William Ivory and Virginia Cutlip. She was born in July 1854 in Lewis Co, WV and her parents were William and Syntha. This is as far as I have found so far. Does any of those names sound familiar to you by chance? Thanks, Tiffani

Hi Kimberly,

I do not know where they were born, but must have been in Braxton County. I have a feeling they were born at home.

I do not have a birth certificate for my father (Ofa Caeser Robey), in fact, I can find nothing on my dad, it is as if he dissappered from the face of the earth from the time he was about 11 until about 1938 when he married my mother.

My father was a construction superintendent and traveled a lot. My parents were married in New York state where my sister was born. I was born in St. Louis, Mo. in 1940 and my brother was born in Houston, Texas.

With 3 kids it was difficult for my mom to travel and from 1944 until my mom died she liven in Pasadena, Texas (outside of Houston.)

I have one record of my dad's discharge papers from the service, and wrote for more information, but his records were distroyed in the fire at one of the government buildings.

My dad was 50 when I was born and died when I was 20 years old. He talked very little about his family, except for names. I remember him talking about your great grand mother (Eva Carol). He was extremely fond of her, she was his favorite.

I live in Colorado Springs, CO. Do you know if your mother lived in Denver. I remember talking to someone in Denver about 25 years ago and it seems to me they were related to Eva Carol. I got her number from the geneology information sent to me by Coy Allen. He asked my mom for information but she was in her 80's by that time so she sent the info to me. That is when I corresponded with Coy.

Any information you can share with me would be appreciated.

If you want any more information on my family I would be happy to send it to you.

Good to talk to you. I don't know why I haven't done this sooner.

Mona Lightfoot

I agree with most of the information you sent to me. I may be repeating myself, but here goes.

My father was the second child and his name was Ofa Caesar Robey.

Also listed as child #4 for Virginia and George Lee Robey
is a child named Corley Robey.

According to the census records for 1910 Corley Sipe, is listed as a Son in Law, age 35.

Corley was not a child of Virginia and George Lee, but he was living in their household.

They are Listed in the 1910 census as the Robey Household in the following order:
Robey, George L -Head of Household-49
Jennie Wife - 44
Corley, Sipe - Son in law - 35
Belle - Daughter - 23
Eeula - grandaughter 7
Percy - grandson 7/12
Eva-daughter - 17
Corley-son 14
Callie - 11

I am not sure who the Corley-son 14 was, but I do remember my dad talking about Uncle Sipe and all his other family members. All of these people we listed in the Robey household.

If Belle was the oldest daughter at 23. It was not likely she had a son 14 years old, but maybe

Jennie
I am the great grand daughter of Virginia A. Cutlip, married George Lee Roby 1861. My grandmother, Eva Carol Roby,1892 had a child at an early age, via some local politicial scandal. Does anyone know the details? My uncle (the child) took the name of Coy Allen and was brought up by Virginia I believe. Coy passed away a few years ago in Ohio. Eva had a sister "Calla" I have been unable to locate either one in records. Eva married Lloyd Porter Evans and later moved to Utah where she bore 11 children. I know the rest if anyone is interested. Please fill in where you can.
Thanks, Sheila

Elizabeth & Priscilla CUTLIP

I have 2 CUTLIP's in my line.

1. Elizabeth CUTLIP m. Hiram FURY b. 1832 Virginia - Monroe Co WV or Bath Co. VA Don't know anything about Elizabeth no dates, parents, nothing.

They had a son John Abraham FURY b. 1856 d. 1939 m. Matilda Ann MORRISON b. 1866 d. 1905 they married 1883 Wood Co. WV M

Matilda & John FURY have a daughter Bertha Odell who married Waldo Marlin HOSKINS.

Matilda's parents are:

2. Priscilla CUTLIP b. ca 1831 in WV m. Robert MORRISON b. ca 1825 WV

I'm assuming Elizabeth & Priscilla are sisters but that would make their children 1st cousins and they did marry each other. Is that strange? Again, I'm assuming it is NOT documented. I have no information on the CUTLIP's than what I posted.

Someone please help!!! I'd appreciate it.

I am looking for any information on a lady that is a mystery. She is my great-grandmother. She is a mother to Dana Rowan and a wife to Noah Thomas Rowan. They lived in several parts of West Virginia. I have been told different stories as to who she is. Why their were so many different names. I have heard of the following names for the same lady. Mary Ellen Keener, Mary Ellen Rowan, Amanda Ellen Keener, Mary Ellen Cutlip, Mandy Ellen Keener....the list goes on. She died in the late 50's to Mid 60's please if anyone has any information on her. I would love to know. I have been told that she was also Cherokee Indian? This is something that I have always wanted to know true or not. you can email me privately or post here...Thanks for anything
marriedtoaseabee@hotmail.com
