Jeanne,
I believe that there are two Cutrell family trees in the U.S. Mine is centered in Danville Illinois. According to my maternal grandmother, our "Patriarch" was a cutler (sharpened plow blades, knifes, etc)at Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight, U.K. Quarr Abbey was siezed by Henry VIII and all the records were destroyed.
It may just hold some merit. She had told me that an ancestor of mine piloted a submarine before the Civil War and in sunk in the Great Lakes. I didn't believe it. Before the Civil War? Then I found it. Philips Submersible, sunk in Lake Eire in the 1850's while attempting cargo recovery from a sunken ship. Maybe Grandma has it right.
