I realize you posted in 1999, so this may be a long shot.

I've got Cuttings in Wiltshire in my tree. The earliest I've been able to find are Daniel Cutting and his wife Mary (maiden name unknown). They were probably born in the 1660s.

The family is from the Rowde/Devizes area.
