Obituary

Died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. W. Butler, Friday, July 1, 1910, Mrs. Mary Rowley Cutting.

Mary Rowley was born in Shelburn [sic], Vermont, May 22, 1833, and was married to Hiram Cutting at Shelburn in 1851. In 1866 she moved with her husband to Newberg, Minn., and remained there until 1870 when her husband died. She came with her family to Dakota in 1882, and in 1902 came to Waubay where she has since lived with her daughter, Mrs. Butler.

The funeral service was held at the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. D. B. Waller of the Free Methodist church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Lakewood cemetery.

Mrs. Cutting was a woman of domestic virtue, Christian character and was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She was also a soldier's widow, her husband, Hiram Cutting, being a member of Co. A, 2d Reg., Minn, V.I, She was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, and the large number of friends that followed her remains to their last resting place show the respect with which she was held.

Mrs. Cutting was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her. They are: Kate Cutting Carey of Dexter, S.D.; Clara Cutting Young and Arthur Cutting of Portland, Ore.; George Cutting of Stockton,, Calif.; and Frank Cutting and Jesse Cutting Butler of Waubay, S.D. She also leaves a blind sister, Miss Katherine Rowley, who has lived with her from childhood, and who is still at the home of Mrs. Butler. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
