I am a descendent of Joseph and Barbary, and am posting on this board because the family and census takers spelled the name in many different variations until the late-1800's, when Scifres/Scifers became apparent in written family records. According to the verbal history, Joseph and Barbary came from Germany. Baszed on the birth dates of their children, they both would have been born before 1755. They lived in Pennsylvania, then took a flatboat down the Ohio river to Ky, where they lived in an old fort at Maysville due to severe Indian activity. Their children were: Mathias, married to Mary Howe, Rebecca King and Sarah Edwards; Eliza Jane, married to Jesse Crume; Mary, married to William Thomas; Joseph, married to Anna Pierson; Betsy, married to William Hobson. According to our history, both Joseph and Barbary died in Shelby county, KY. If anyone has information on Joseph and Barbary or their descendents, please email me directly at: ginny12345@aol.com
