Hi Sharon, I've been trying to get in touch with you since a long time! I'm Michael Trial from Québec, Canada and I am doing a search about my family name. When I started my family tree, in 2006, most of the information I found on the net was from you. So, thank you very much! That helped me a lot to start my tree 'cause the only one name we had was my greatgrandfather Édouard Trial.

I don't have the information you're looking for but I have a lot of papers, pics and censuses (US and Canada) about the family. I'd like to know more and chat with you to share new information. So, if you're interested... let me know!

I've been able to contact some cousins in US and your brother Paul is in.

Well, hope to hear from you soon!
Take care,
Michael Trial from Québec
Merci d'avance.
==========
I am looking for information on Louise Cyr, religious name Sister Anne-Marie, daughter of Denerie Henri and Obertina (Labelle) Cyr. In particular, I would appreciate it if somebody can give a precise date of death. If I'm not mistaken, it was at the beginning of November 1982 in St. Hyacinthe (or very nearby), but I don't know which day. In addition, I'm still looking for her birthdate and to determine if she was born in Quebec or in the United States. Thank you in advance.
Hello,

I have been trying to find information on my mother-in-law, Aurore Yvonne Cyr, born 8/31/1908. Here is what I know: Father: Desire Cyr, Mother: Almosa Masse (or Misse), Siblings: Juliette, Romeo, Desire, Joan D'Arc (all born in Quebec--Black Lake or Sorel) Rita and Cecile, born in Massachusetts. I have them on the 1930 US Census, and I found where they came to the US through Newport, VT around 1922.

I have not been able to find them on the Canadian Census, but I'm sure it is due to lack of experience.

Any information/advice/comments is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Vickster3659

Re: 2009 Descendants of David Cyr reunion

The David Cyr you are referring to is the brother of Joseph-Abraham Cyr (b. 9 June 1768 in St. Hyacinthe, LaPrairie, P.Que). The David Cyr of our reunion was the son of Joseph-Abraham. Our David was born 15 March 1797 in L'Acadie, P. Quebec.
So we are indeed cousins, however, are we the ones that you still want to get more information from? There were several Boudreau's who also moved to Kansas when our Cyr relatives moved.
At our reunion we shared a lot of photographs.
Looking forward to your response.

Is there a possibility that someone would be putting together a publication of family information obtained at the reunion? My husband descends from David Cyr and Marthe Louise Boudreau through their daughter Phoebe Cyr (married to Julien Boudreau, son of Jacques Boudreau and Suzanne Audet). Also, I would like to correspond with anyone descending from David & Marthe Louise.
Thank you,
Joanne Boudreau

2009 Descendants of David Cyr reunion

Our reunion was a great success: about 75 individuals over the 3 days. Representatives of his sons Zephyren, Jean Baptiste, Narcisse (Nelson) and Ferdinand all attended. Even some that wound up related through 2 of them. (They all died about a century ago . . . plenty of time to be past incest).

The Catholic Church at St. Joseph, Cloud Co., Kansas was opened for us. Unfortunately, the diocese is selling the property and "recycling" the holy furnishings to other congregations. We were related by blood or marriage to nearly everyone buried there.

We visited cemetaries in Concordia, Cloud, Ames, St Joseph, Miltonvale and several in areas that the church or village is long forgotten. There were two cemetaries that had been plowed under. (Since a tornado visited about 25 miles south of us, we chose to not wade through the mud.)

John Cyr spoke with us about the history of why and how the French Canadians emigrated from New Brunswick to Quebec to Illinois to Kansas.

Many, many thanks to Vicki Cyr-Katz for doing the legwork to set it all up and fronting the money to pay for everything.

Many, many thanks to Theresa Ashcroft and her daughters for crafting all the decorations we used at the Miltonvale Community Center.

Many, many thanks to Rob Katz and sons for doing our cooking. And great cooks they are.

Many, many thanks to Rex Bavousett for going above-and-beyond preparing photos on cds for us. (Even though it cut into his time visiting with his parents, who also attended.)

And mustn't forget Jan Cyr--she set up the visit to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She brought the original photos, framed of several members of Zephyren Cyr's line. And amazing, hand lettered charts going back to the 1600 that she has worked on for decades.

Several Cyr families opened their homes to us. Thank you all very much.

The Miltonvale Wesleyan Church welcomed us to their service and enough of us came to fill just over a row. Their minister is a very passionate preacher.

We had 2 main goals:
1) Meet our family members we have "met" on-line as well as the folks who still live in the area.
2) Heal a century old division over faith.

We are one family, one blood. There is only one Jesus. We must love each other enough to accept that we must each find our own way to Him. (Or at least love them ANY WAY.)

Hello Rex,

Thank you so much for answering. My name is Jayne Anderson. My father is James A. Girvin. He is 83 years old. His mother was Alma Mary Cyr born in Hatzic Prairie, B.C. His father was James Girvin born in Ireland. If Kathleen is still alive, she is about 80 years old. She is a nun and was born in New Westminster, BC. I believe she was living in Victoria as of about 20 year ago and may still be. Kathleen's father was Charlie Cyr. My mother (deceased was Mary Girvin/nee Charleston). Let me know if you need more information and I will try to provide it. Thanks again so much for your reply; it was a long shot and I'm delighted that you responded. My dad moved in with me in Campbell River recently from Quesnel and we were just wondering about what long lost relatives might still be with us for a possible visit.
Best regards,
Jayne

Reunion for the descendants of David Cyr, L'Acadie, Quebec to Kankakee, Illinois (1797 - 1870)

We are trying to get a Cyr reunion together next summer (2009). I guess we have chosen a date of the 3rd weekend in June. It will be nice weather and before the 4th of July crowds. A cousin has lined up a speaker to tell us about the Cyr family coming to Kansas and their plight on the journey. He can go back and give us some history of the family and how and why they came south from Canada. For the relatives that live even further south than Kansas, it will also fill in further info on the families strife over multiple marriages, deaths, religion etc.
We have the location of the Miltonvale City Park. Since many of the Cyr's are buried in about a 50 mile radius of there it is a good central location. We are hoping to have a cemetary tour during the reunion.
Let anyone you want know about the reunion. The only thing that is mandatory is that everyone brings any photos, memorabilia, genealogy files, etc. that they have so we can all share and leave feeling like our search is a little more complete. A cousin will have a scanner there for anyone who wants copies of what's there and a computer so we can hopefully scan things in and put all on a disc for each one to take home. I think we are going to have a great time and who knows, it may become a tradition.

Cool! You have Mac, and Viki and I have PC, so we can take care of everyone.
Thanks for the geography--I've hardly been out of California. Mostly Oregon and Mexico.
Viki is trying to set up for us to stay with family in the area unless you want to stay at a motel. So it would be good to let us know if you're planning to come and how many.

Dear Wenda,

We may be related further back than I have traced. I checked your tree, and may be able to help guide your search.
Your ggreat grandfather Nelson is not the same person as our Nelson, son of David Cyr. So I have no information on him at this time. But all of the French Canadians share our history, so there has to be a connection someplace.

Contact me through Ancestry, and I'll see what I can do to help.
Can you recall any of the towns that your grandfather lived in or near? Likewise for any relatives (sisters or brother)?
Am I assuming that Alphe is his nickname and his actual name is Alfred? do you know where anyone was born?

What are your fathers brothers and sisters names? (Note: this forum is public, so do not divulge any private information about the living relatives, only those who have past.)

There are groups of Cyr's that live in the area around Maine. Another group living in and around Kansas. As well as the family still in Canada.

I have not found anything in a quick search of my files. My Cyr connection runs from the Kansas family through Illinois up into Canada.
I hope this can help you in your search. Let the forum know what you have.

Good luck,
Rex

This will be a wonderful event! I plan to be there and will bring my files as scanner as well.

If you are not familiar with this rural area of Kansas, here is some basic directions.

Miltonvale is in Cloud county Kansas near the border with Clay county Kansas. This is basically Southeast of Concordia, Cloud Co. Kansas and Southwest of Clyde, Vining and Clifton Kansas in Clay County. North of Miltonvale a few miles is St. Joseph Catholic Church where many Cyr's attended church. The town of Clay Center, Clay county seat is due east of Miltonvale.

If you need a motel there is a small one in Miltonvale, but you could also stay in Concordia and Clay Center.

Thank you guys for all of your help. Unfortunately, I am not aware of us having ever set foot in Maine or the US. A wonderful woman named Suzanne has helped, based on the info of our history I know of, to trace the initial ancestors I know of back to Rene Siret dit La Fleur of the Carignan regiment based off of the story of our ancestors being 2 brothers in the military coming to Canada from Martinique, so far all I've been finding on him adds up to the T of the story I've been told.

As for my grandpa, I've only ever known him to be in Cananda. He was born in 1905 and died on Aug 10, 1996 (I know that for a fact, hard to forget someone passing on your bday) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The hunt is on...

I am trying to create my family tree and though there is a lot of info out there, I can't seem to find who my great grandparents are. My grandfather, Alphe Alfred Cyr (born in 1905, married Mary Jarboe), passed away in the 90's and not much info otherwise. I know that he was from a large family (I know he had a brother, Bruno I think, sisters Jeanne and Estelle both living, that's all I can recall). My father, Wilfrid, is the youngest of 7 and born in 1953. My mother was adopted, so not sure her lineage other than her adopted family. Any help would be great

Eleanor (Chase) Cyr 1914-2009

Bangor Daily News, Bangor Maine, Monday 30 March 2009
FARMINGDALE - Eleanor Worthing (Chase) Cyr, 94, of Farmingdale and Glenburn, died March 27, 2009, at an Orono health care facility, after a five-year battle between age and a brain tumor. She was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Augusta, to Malcolm and Annie Chase. Eleanor graduated from Cony High School in 1932 and Nasson Institute, Springvale, in 1934 with a certificate in secretarial services. Eleanor joined Augusta Players Theater Group in the 1940s, where she eventually played leading lady opposite the gentleman that would become her lifelong leading man, Aril W. Cyr of Madawaska and Augusta. They were wed Jan. 11, 1947, in Augusta. Eleanor was employed at Augusta City Hall for four years and the Maine State Department of Education for six years as a fiscal auditor. She took 10 years off to raise her children and then returned to work as a bookkeeper and secretary for the superintendent of schools in the Hall-Dale school system. She went on to work as an account clerk IV in the Maine State Department of Taxation, where she retired in 1987 after a total of 35 years in state service. Her love of reading inspired membership in various book clubs throughout her life and once in retirement, led her to join the Literacy Volunteers of America. She relished teaching adults to read and write and she also served for a time as the organization's treasurer. Other favorite memberships included Community Concert Association during the 1950s, service as a Cub Scout Den Mother in the 1960s, Kennebec Historical Society and several humane societies throughout the U.S. Eleanor's great love of dogs allowed her a lifetime of joyous ownership, with her favorites being her Sheltie, Larry, and her beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Chase. She was predeceased by an infant son, Barry A. Cyr in October 1947; and her husband, Aril in June 1987. She is survived by two sons, Dana A. Cyr of Farmingdale and Marc A. Cyr of Hallowell; her daughter, Carla L. Cyr of Glenburn; two grandchildren, Tyler J. Cyr of Gardiner and Meredith K. Cyr of Hallowell, and their much loved mother, Jacqueline Cyr of Augusta. She will be missed by her friend of 30 years, Belinda Brunfelt; and by Eli's sidekick at Orono Commons, Mim Cohen. Eleanor is now rejoicing with her lifelong friend, Marjorie Nason. Well done mom, well done. The family expresses their thanks to the staff and volunteers at Orono Commons Nursing Home who made her life better. We are grateful for your kindness, attention to her needs and for joining in the laughter that so flowed with her sense of humor. A special thanks to her buddies, Allyn Weaver and LaWanda Tanner, whom she loved dearly. Relatives and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Spring burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Augusta. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.khrfuneralhomes.com. The following poem appears at her request: When I quit this mortal shore And mosey 'round this earth no more, Don't weep, don't sigh, don't grieve, don't sob, I may have struck a better job! Don't go and buy a large Bouquet, For which you'll find it hard to pay, Don't stand around me looking blue I may be better off than you!!
