She was born in 1892, probably in Summers County, WV; married William Auvel Cyrus in Kanawha County in 1911; and died in Fayette County in 1929.

Would like to correspond with her descendants as well.

Any help appreciated.

Arley Meadows

Yes, I believe that you have the correct family. Spellings are incorrect on many of the siblings names. Lenore, Othel, Clyde, Adrian, Amos, Robert, and Katherine. Who are you and how is there relationship? I am in no concern of being related to " Billy Ray Cyrus"!!!! My relatives mentioned it at our last get together in Johnstown, Ohio. My great uncle, Amos lived in Johnstown and most of his children still live there. I can remember " skinnin' rabbits up there with my grandfather, Clyde. That's all for now!!!

If the following information fits into you family tree, then we are related. I have many Cyrus and Hatton relatives.
There is one Hattie married to a Levie Hatton in my tree. Here is what I have. Let me know if it fits into your tree.
Frank Hatton

From a letter, March 29, 1994, to Frank Hatton, from Berniece Swanson, part of page 2 of 6
ALevi Hatton, son of William Hatton and Susan Flick, married Catherine Ferguson, a widow of Anthony Ferguson. Her maiden name had been Ross. They married 8 June 1875 (Vol. 1 page 56) in Wayne Co. W Va. He was widower when he married her. He died 19 Feb., 1901, and a William Furguson contacted Catlettsburg funeral home about the death of Levi Hatten. A Levi Hatton contacted the funeral home about Mrs. Hatten 12 July 1896. On the 1880 Wayne County census, Levi Hatton was 57, farmer, Va, Va, Va, and his wife was 45 born Ohio. They did have a son Levi Anthony, born 1876, W VA, who married Hattie Irons. This son died in 1960.

Using the actual census:
Hatten,	Levi	White	Male	57	Self
"	Cathern	White	Female	45	Wife
"	Levi	White	Male 4	Son
The next family above the Hatten's:
Irons,	John	White	Male	26	Self
"	Frances	White	Female	23	Wife
"	Pattie	White	Female 2	Daughter
"	James	White	Male	9/12	Son
On the the preceeding census page, and next to John:
Irons,	Solomon	W	M	60	Self
"	Susan	W	F	44	Wife
"	Earmina	W	F	18	Daughter
"	Mariland	W	F	13	Daughter
"	Wiley	W	M	10	Son
"	Ruth	W	F 5	Daughter

The 1900 Census, West Virginia, Credo
Hatton, Levi	W	M	24 Self	Apr 1874	Mar. at 24 yrs	West Virginia
"	Hattie	W	F	23	Wife	Mar1877 Mar. at 23 yrs "	"	2 children, 1 living
"	L???a	W	F	6/12	Daughter	Dec 1899	Single "	"
"	Levi	W	M	77	Father	May 1873 Widower "	"

From what they tell me , there were quite a few. Are you related to our family ? Ceredo- Kenova , West Virginia is our home! My grandmother was a Dorsey. There are still Dorsey relatives in Ceredo and Huntington. I have a cousin that works at Marshall. Hope to hear from you . Happy Labor Day Weekend !

Maggie B. Richmond married William Averill Cyrus and they had at least four daughters who lived to adulthood: Alma (married a Waters possibly), June, Phyliss, and Fay. Looking for a picture of Maggie, who died in 1929 in Fayette County, WV. I am told that at least one picture exists.
(Maggie's father was Wellington Wesley Richmond, my great-great-grandfather. I am trying to complete the family record for him - he was married three times and fathered at least 21 children)

Arley Meadows

Re: Bernard Ben Cyrus/Myrtle Bell Cyrus

Do you know who the father of Bernard Ben Cyrus was? There was a large family of Cyruses in Linn Co., Or, all descended from Enoch Sires, brother of my ancestor, Jesse Sires. The firs to go there was William Cyrus who went from Tn to Linn Co. in 1847. He was born in Grainger Co., Tn 17 Dec 1820 and died in Scio, Linn co., Or 8 Jun 1890. He is buried in Providence Cemetery in Linn Co. He married three times: to Mary An Deakins in 1842 (Andrew Co., MO), Jane Briscoe, 1865 in Grainger Co., TN, and Margaret Charlton (in Grainger Co., TN) He had at least 15 children. I've traced William's descendants, but have not found Bernard Ben. However, William's family is the only Cyrus family I've ever found in Linn Co., OR, so Bernard Ben must figufe in there somewhere. He could well have been a grandson or greatgrandson. I've posted William Cyrus and descendants on Amcestry.com, if you care to take a look. You may be able to make a connection. Do you know names of any of Bernard Ben's siblings?
John Mahey mahey@aol.com

The name Cyr in Canada is a fabrication by the Catholic Church of the last name Sire.

3 men came to Canada before 1700

All were named Sire: spelled Sire, Sirre and Le Syre.

1 lived in Quebec the whole time and his progeny ended up being called Cyr by the late 1800's

The other two lived primarily in Acadia: Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

This group of Acadians was expelled along with all the French by the British in 1755.........they were dispersed all over the world: some to the USA and Louisiana in particular: thus the "Cajuns"

By this time their name was being spelled Cyr.......and most records in Canada even to this day will refer to the Sire family as Cyr.......a word the French priests new better than Sire.......as Cyr was the name of a French saint.

Hope this helps your hunt.
Ok… I have seen many references in Family Trees to Sarah’s maiden name being Hoff and her dying in Wright Co, MN in 1907.

The last census I could locate her in is 1900 in Stockholm, Wright, Minnesota, but I can not locate her in the 1905 MN Census.

I have searched and searched and can’t locate a death certificate for her. Does anyone have a death cert number for Sarah?

On Abraham’s death certificate his mother is listed as Sarah Lowe. Does anyone have a death cert for any of the other children? What is the mother name listed as?

Please help me solve this mystery.
Thank you,
TJ
Daniel L. Cyrus is my Uncle; my Mother, Myrtle Bell Cyrus is his sister. He lived for the past 50 years in Coos Bay, Oregon--close to my brother and our family. He died about 2 years ago. He was about 95 yo when he died. My brother contacted his son Ronnie after Uncle Dan's death. We would like to know more about the Billy Rae Cyrus connection too. I was also born in Van Lear, KY. I understand that my Mothers Father and Uncle Dans Father has a twin brother who is a Great Grandfather of Billy Ray. My Mother's Father, Ben Cyrus, died around the late 1940s or early 1950s. I remembered when he died. We were sent pictures of him in his casket. Lookling fdorward to hearing more about the links.
Anyone researching the Cyrus families of Wayne Co., WV and Lawrence Co., KY may wish to know that there is extensive genealogical information available in the Special Collections Department of Marshall University Library in Huntington, WV. Most of it was deposited there by Benjamin B. Cyrus, Jr. and myself several years ago. Since then I have developed quite a bit more information and will happy to share it. I am may be contacted at: mahey@aol.com.
John Mahey, Harrisburg, PA
The Cyrus family of Wayne Co., WV came there around 1810 from Stokes Co., NC where the names was spelled SIRES. Jesse's father, John Sires, lived in Prince William Co., VA. Jesse Cyrus was the first to settle in Wayne Co. and the family used the SIRES name until around 1840 or 1850 when it is found spelled CYRUS in the Wayne Co. Federal Census. Nobody know exactly why the spelling was changed, but this heppened quite frequently then, and still happens today.

You great grandmother on your Cyrus side was not an Indian. She was Elizabeth Cyrus, b. March 1835, a daughter of Smith Cyrus, Sr. Elizabeth never married, but had three sons: William, John and James Granville Cyrus, your great-grandfather. James Granville Cyrus married Lucinda Ball on 28 Sep 1901. Lucinda was born 1 Jan 1876 in Wayne co., the daughter of William T. Ball and Surrilda Crabtree. Lucinda was James Granville's second wife. His first was Sarah F. Hutcheson. This misinformation about an Indian marrying into the Cyrus family in Wayne Co., WV has been circulating for a long time, but there is no proof.
