My GG Uncle Joseph Engler married Julia Czaplewski in Beatrice, Nebraska in 1899. This was a 2nd marriage for each of them as their 1st spouses had died. Both were also from Gross Montau area, but don't know how they met in Nebraska. The Englers had family in Chicago also so maybe they met there?
Julia's first husband was Franz/Frank Czaplewski & they came to USA circa 1887 with 2 sons, John & Joseph. Both born in Germany. A daughter, Anna, was born in Chicago after their arrival. Anna married William Drake in 1917. I have been trying to unravel the Czaplewski family for sometime. If any of this fits for you please contact me.
Hi,

My Mother-in-law's father was Michael Szubert who was born in Poland to Roman and Julia Szubert. Michael had a brother named Jozef who married a Helena. We don't know her maiden name. Jozef was born in Warsaw around 1910. Michael also had two other brothers and a sister named Katarzyna. Does this sound like it could be your Father's family?
Hi, I'm formerly a Szubert - the youngest of 7 children born to Jozef Szubert who came to England during the war. I know Jozef's father stayed in Poland around the Warsaw area. My father married Helena Adamczyk whose siblings and parents settled in Chicago. We hve grown up with no relatives in England and wonder if there are any in America.
I called my first born Michael!

I finally found Stanislaus Czaplewski's Mother' birth record as well as marriage record to Joannes Czaplewski.
Marianna Grzymski was born Feb. 4, 1821 in Byslaw Poland
She married Joannes Czaplewski Apr. 8, 1841
Marianna's parents were:
Urban Grzymski b.abt. 1761 Poland d. Dec. 28, 1853 Byslaw
Marianna Radzich (or Radzych) b. abt. 1772 Poland d. Apr. 20, 1855 Byslaw I have also found siblings of Marianna.

I have been told that Stanislaus Czaplewski's wife was Anna Pryla and I found a lot of Pryla's (also spelled Prill, Pril, Pryl, Pryla) in Byslaw/Bylsawek Poland.
There were 3 Anna/Marianna/Marcyanna Pryl's born between 1858 and 1859. The only one I can find close to what I have that survived to adulthood was Marcyanna Pryla b. Jun. 18, 1849 to Lorenz Pryla and Marianna Niedzielska.
I am not sure this is the right one. If anyone has any info please let me know....This Marcyanna had an older sister name Anna that died several months after Marcyanna's birth so is it possible that they called her Anna?? My notes indicate Anna was born in August 1849 but I haven't found any Anna/Maryanna Pryla's born in that month- yet.
I have ordered church records for later marriages, maybe this will shed some light.
Hope this helps....
I ordered and received the church records for Makowarsk Poland recently. Stanislaus Czaplewski father was Joannes Czaplewski b. Dec. 15, 1816 Lucim,Poland. Joannes Father was Thomas Czaplewski and his Mother was Regina Graykowski. Looking at Stanislaus birth record it appears his Mother's surname was spelled Grzymska. The siblings of Stanislaus' mothers surname is spelled with either m or n.
Stanislaus was born in Mokowarsk...I did not find Marianna Grzymska birth record or Thomas and Regina. I now have a website for my ancestry and it can be viewed at: james.kustelski@googlepages.com

Hi, I have recently found an obituary for Mrs. Mathilda Czaplewski from Stevens Point, WI. I have the surname Czaplewski later changed to Chapley in the Illinois area but can find no connection at this point. Also, I am researching the Wayerski family line, which is also mentioned in this obituary, but can find no connection at this time either. I am posting this obituary hoping that it may be of some help to someone else or that they may help me tie in. Here it is:

Stevens Point Daily Journal
Stevens Point, WI, Portage County
Thursday, June 20, 1946

Mrs. Mathilda Czaplewski

Mrs. Mathilda Czaplewski, age 75, a former Junction City resident, who had been making her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Kosloski at Berlin, died Wednesday afternoon in a Berlin hospital, following a long illness.

The body is at the Wiecki funeral home at Berlin and will be taken Friday to the Martens funeral home at Junction City, where it may be viewed Friday evening, when the rosary will be said at 8 o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic church at Junction City, with burial in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Czaplewski was born in Germany on Nov. 27, 1870, a daughter of August and Mary Wayerski. She came to this country in 1877 with her parents, who settled in Chicago. Mrs. Czaplewski worked as a tailor in Chicago before her marriage there to John Czaplewski in January 1889. Following their marriage the couple located at Junction City. Mr. Czaplewski died in October, 1934. Mrs. Czaplewski had been in Berlin with the Kosloskis the past 10 years.

Surviving are two sons, Edward of Chicago, and John of Waukegan, IL, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Smith of Chicago and Mrs. Kosloski of Berlin, a sister, Mrs. Mary Wayerski of Junction City, and 13 grandchildren. Four brothers preceded her in death.

Susan,

I am doing research for my mother-in-law, Rosemarie Wisniewski, nee Szubert. Her father, Michael Szubert was born September 5, 1905 in Warsaw, Poland. He immigrated to this country from Poland in 1923 and supposedly lived in Philadelphia, PA for one year with a Dr. Szubert. Sometime in 1924 he moved to Chicago, IL and in 1927 married Antoinette Wojciukiewicz. Rosemarie was their firstborn and coincidentally married a Wisniewski. Michael's parent's were Roman Szubert and Julia Fiodorczuk. They both remained in Poland. I'm wondering if the Dr. Szubert in Philadelphia could be related to your Szuberts and our Michael?

Michelle Wisniewski

Susan,

This could be interesting because Michael Szubert, who lived with Dr. Szubert in PA for a year before moving to Chicago was the son of Roman Szubert and Julia Fiodorczuk. Michael was supposedly born in Warsaw Poland but that may not be necessarily true. We don't have a lot of information on this family. According to my mother-in-law, Michael was not supposed to be the one to come to the US, it was supposed to be his elder brother. When he didn't want to immigrate, Michael came instead. It also may not have been Philadelphia, but some other location in PA.

Do you have any further information on your Roman Szubert? Could they be the same Roman?

Michelle
