I don't know if anyone will see this but it's worth a shot. My mother was Eva Slipko Taszreak from Smoke Run, PA. This Mary Slipko Czerniak is most likely her cousin. As a child I vaguely remember my mother visiting these relatives in Philipsburg, PA. In the 40's they moved to Niagara Falls and we lost contact. The ironic thing about this is that I lived in Niagara Fall from 1965-69 while my husband attended college. I sure would like to get in touch with this family. My name is Betty Jane (Taszreak) Davies

I am Dawn's 2nd cousin. Josephine was my great-aunt (I still miss her). If you're looking for information about Jo's parents search ellisisland.org with the search terms Leon Czerniak and an arrival in 1905. My grandfather, Ziegmund, is listed. You can get the names of all the family members who were born in Poland. Of course, they all Americanized their names sometime after arriving.

I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out some ancestors' nationality; they say they're Ukrainian, think they came from Austria, and are listed on the US Census as Polish. They came over right before WWI and then after that, the borders/countries were certainly not the same.

Hmm... I might be a relative of yours: my great-grandparents John and Veronika Black Czerniak lived in Calumet City. He was born in 1893 and died in 1954, and she was born in 1889 and died in 1967. At the time, I believe, the town was called West Hammond. Anthony could be a cousin of my grandmother Helen (born 1918; died 2001), as she had no brother named Anthony. My great-grandfather had a large family in the Chicagoland area. He came to America by himself at 11 and lived with aunts, uncles, and cousins. His own siblings and parents may have come at a later time.

He married Sophia Markowski b. 1896 in Michigan and died in 1991 in Warren. Their children were:

Rita
Lorraine
Evelyn
John
Marcella

The deeds office shows them interacting with Jerry S.
Czerniaks from Poznan

I am looking for Czerniaks who have roots in the area around Gniezno-Trzemeszno-Strzelno in Poland. My grandmother Marianna was born in Milawa in 1888 to Andrzej Czerniak and Witory Nowak. She emigrated to the U.S. in about 1907 and settled in Detroit. She had a sister named Weronika also born in Milawa in 1886. I believe both the Czerniaks and Nowaks llived in the nearby village of Ostrowite Prymaslowskie for some time before the birth of their daughters but perhaps the family was not there for a lengthy perios of time.. Sometime between 1888 and 1913 the family may have moved to the Strzelno area before Weronika and her mother joined Marianna in the U.S.
Because the family seems to haev moved around over time I am having difficulty tracking them down. If there is anyone out there who knows anything I would appreciate their help.

Hi, my great grandfather is John Czerniak. Maybe Jan and John are related. John came to America from Poland by himself when he was 11 in the early 1900's. He married A woman named Veronika and had 7 children, Eddy, Joe, Helen (my grandmother), Stella, Sue, Lil, and Jean. My grandmother married A man named Dominic and had 4 sons, Donnie, Wayne (he passed away), Jerry, and Eugene Sr. (my dad).
