Re: Dabel/WI

Gotfried Thiel was my grandfather ans Willi was my grandmotther. They lived in Waukesha, WI for many years. I never really knew Minni - I was 2 when she died. Grandps George then married a Sopie Kohl of Milwaukee - I do remember her.

Minni's last name was Daebel, and she was born on Feb 21,1862 in Kutzerow, Prenzlau, the yougest of 7 children. Her father was Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Daebel, who was the son of sheep-herder Martin Friedrich Daebel of Kutzrow, and his wife Marie Christine, nee Berlin

C.F.W. Daebel was a laborer in Kutzrow and married Marie Dorothee Frederike, nee Steffen.

The other siblings of Minni were:
Ernestine Therese Caroline, born May 7, 1865
Twins Wilhelm Carl Friederich and Carl Friederich Wilhelm
born July 24, 1867
Johanne Friedericke Ernestine, born August 26, 1869
Frederike Charlotte Wilhemine, born October 1871
Auguste Caroline Wilhelmine, born November23, 1873.

This info is from a certificate - written in German - and translated by my dad - with the following certification:
"This is to certify that the above church records of Kutzerow, Tauschenberg and Jagow, of the children born to
Christian Friederich Wilhelm Daebel, living at the time in Jagow, 7 in number, is legally correct.
Certified in Jagow Mar. 19, 1884 by Father Rueker, priest of Jagow, Tauschenberg and Kutzerow".

It's been a long time since you made the original post - I just came across it on Google. Hope it helps !

Incidentally, the `A' in Dabel has an umlaut above it, therefor Daebel.

Ben Thiel

I too have been trying to find my Mother's side of the family. I think they changed their name from "Dibble" to "DeBelle" sometime around 1900 but not sure. My side of the family hailed from Woodstock, Ontario but think they orginally came from U.S.A.

Bonjour,

I'm pretty sure they are the same family. According to people I have talked to they are all related some way. I have just started and only gotten back to my husband's great-greatgrandfather so far on both sides but do not have all the brothers and sisters.
We were is Wisconsin about a year ago and my husband's aunt took us out to the cemetary in North Prairie which is about 20 miles from Waukesha and I took pictures of all the graves. My aunt told me it wasn't all the brothers and sisters though. How far along have you gotten so far.
