Dear Mr. Rains, Ms. Dabney and Ms. Alford,
I just came across your post regarding Keziah Dabney, John Rains and Bailey Rains. I come from Bailey Rains' line. I would be very interested in corresponding as I have just begun my research this past May on my family tree. I am very lucky to have had two relatives do a lot of research previously, which I am building on. My direct email is audrey.shawn@gmail.com

Thank you and have a good day,

Audrey Nugent

Re: Dabneys from Massachusetts

I'm descended from Charles Henry Dabney's daughter Eliza or Emily (don't know which name is correct yet). I have only one William in my records - Charles Henry's father (b 1772 d 1858). I have a photograph copy of a portrait of him with these dates on it.

Milford, Massachusetts, marriage records show William as 'of Charleston, South Carolina' - see http://www.rays-place.com/town/ma/milford/marr-2.htm. So it would seem that he was the first Dabney of Mass. - probably due to his marriage to Hannah Jones.

I'd be very interested in any further information about this branch of the Dabneys further back. There seems to be controversy over whether or not they were originally 'd'Aubigne' or not!

Tim Mason
The family has a clipping of the accident. My mothers niece and her husband lived in Marion at the time of the accident and sent my parents a clipping. I did go to the cemetary on Sunday to try and remember how old Kirby was when he died and attempted to determine where he was in 1955.Kirby worked for my father some. I did notice that his son who is buried there wasborn in 1953 and I believe that Kirby was living in Jamestown and was married in 1955 because I remeber that he was with his wife until his son was in his early teens.
In 1955 Kirby Lewis was living in Ky. He was married and worked at various jobs. His son that was killed in the same fire was his only child. At the time of his death he was divorced or separated from his wife. His son had just gotten out of the army when this accident happened. It was always my understanding that his son initially escaped the fire and then went back in to safe his father and was overcome with smoke. Was Your birth mother killed in the fire.?

What a treasure! I have been unable to trace William's ancestry, but all my research substantiates what you have told me. I will continue to pursue this. Thank you again and I will let you know if find any answers.
Linda Dabney West

John L Dabney (~1766-1825), son John Lane Dabney ? Was John L the son of Cornelius and Mary Lane Dabney

Does anyone have any information about a John L Dabney born abt 1766? In 1790 he was living in Camden District SC, he married a Mary Pauline Hoot of SC. John Lane Dabney (born 1816) was one of his sons. Is there any connectin between the Cornelius Dabney and Mary "Molly" Lane Dabney of Bedford Co Va in will of 1792? Could he be their son John? Any help would be appreciated.

I have been looking into John Lane Dabney in South Carolina, and my interst is perked by a will of Cornelius Dabney and wife Mary "Molly" Lane Dabney in Bedford Co. Va, dated 1792. Is John L the son of Cornelius and Mary "Molly" Lane? Also looking at the census closely in 1800, 1810 and 1820. The "S" that have been assigned to John Lane's father by the Texas Dabneys looks more like a "L" to me and was transcribed as such in ancestry.com files. So could John "S" really be and "L" for Lane, his mother maiden name? I think his year of birth is between 1766 and 1774. (leaning more toward the 1766) John Lane Dabney would be my husband's gg grandfather.

The wife of William Dabney of Mason Co, WV, was Martha (Patsy) probably McNeely. I have a copy of his will. His son Robert was my g-g- grandfather; his son Clark was my g-grandfather; his son Robert C. was my grandfather. Much to my frustration I have been unable to discover William's parents, not for lack of trying. He was in Mason/Kanawha Co. by 1806, but I don't know where he was born. I would surmise he was born around 1775. Do you have more information?

Hello!

I'm looking for information for the parents of Joseph Benjamin Dabney. He was born in 1872 and died in 1974 -- yes almost 102 years old. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and later was a Baptist preacher for over 50 years. His home was in southern Kentucky. He married a Malicie C. and had 5 children, Nettie, William (died in WWI), Rebecca, Cora, and Annie.

I have his father as William Payton, but I'm not sure if that is correct. I do not have his mother's name.

I'm JB Dabney's great-great-grandson and any help would be greatly appreciated!!

J. and Georgia Dabney, was born November 22, 1903 and died June 2, 1904.

Armon was not only the pet of his parents but of the grandparents and family.

Let me say to the parents, weep not as those who have no hope, for little Armon is not dead but transfered to the Kingdom above. He budded here but bloomed in Paradise where no frost or withering blast will ever reach him. Jesus said, "suffer little children to come unto me." Good-by Armon for a while, but we will meet you by and by. J. C. Scivally, Pastor

xanderman26,

The book, "The Origins of the Dabney Familoy of Virginia," is a great piece of material in your library. I have looking for it for years. Could you send to me the spects on the book; author, copyright, publisher, location? Maybe I can locate a copy in an old antique bookstore.

Ray Peterson, Fellow Dabney Researcher
