Col.USA (Ret.) Mirek Jan Dabrowski, 89,
died on October 7, 2011 in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., of congestive heart failure.
He was born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y., and, after serving in the Army during World War II, moved to Erie where he worked as a DJ at WERC under the name John Michaels. He met Frances Shirley and they were wed in 1949. They settled in the Washington, D.C. area in 1955 and raised eight children, while Spike continued his radio work, worked in public relations, appeared in numerous local theatre productions, was active in local politics and the Polish American Arts Association, and continued his military career in the Army reserves. Spike is survived by his children, 18 grandchildren, his sister- and brother-in-law, Sara (Shirley) and James Musolf, formerly of Erie, and several nephews and nieces, including Sheryl Stebbins and Candy Sandusky of Erie.
