Hi, I traced us back to Northern Ireland. Name derivatives are Dacey and O'Dacey. I talked to a Grace Dace in Ireland who said there are Dace's all over Ireland. It a very common name there. The name is also a fish.I also found that with my immediate family, so it's possible you are connected to it too, an Irish writer in the 1800's came to the US to write about the American Indians, fell in love with an Indian girl, married her, had kids, and when the Indians were herded onto reservations he lost contact with her. My dad is 1/4 Cherokee. I have a previous post under dacetwin2

Perusing Jefferson County Court Proceedings the "Dace" name popped up and I followed. That was Jefferson Co. MO Historical Society > Court > Divorce Petitions 1839-1849. His witnesses were Sanford and Larina Whitworth and William Issac Dace. Elizabeth had a witness, David Charky(sp).

So, I couldn't let this go. I found an Augustus Duce on the 1820 census in Six Mile, Madison, Illinois. The 1820 census is the only time I find him. The household appears to be him, his wife, and two sons under age 10. Dennis Dace named one of his sons Michael Augustus. Is Augustus the fourth brother and John M his son?

John M Dace and Ellen Crump

I'm working on my Dace line and I can't figure out how John M Dace and Ellen Crump in St Francois County, Missouri fit in. It looks like James S Dace on their 1860 census record may be Samuel Dace, youngest son of Dennis Dace and Sarah Elizabeth Palmer. John M is too old to be one of Dennis's children, but I can't seem to make him one of Dennis's brother's either. I couldn't fit him into Harmon's family and the only place left is the son Dennis Dace and Massey Robins, but census records don't support that either. Does anyone know how this works?

Thanks,

Jane

I have done some research on the Dace side and this is what I have found so far.
I have the obituary of Mary Ellen Hamby (Dace), also referred to "Speck M.". Willard Nathan Dace, her uncle, took her into his home and raised her. She had a brother, Michael, three sisters; Ida Winkler, Jessie Bull, Tracy Hilgendorf. Two 1/2 brothers; Elmer and Jim and one 1/2 sister Katherine. Thanks for posting. Would love to know what else you have on the Dace side.

I'm finding that there are many people with the last name, but I think the names are all derivatives of a Gaelic name I can't find. I'm from St. Louis, Missouri USA. I don't know if you remember talking with me, but I sure do remember you saying there was a new baby named Ruth.

Dace is shortened from a Gaelic name I have never been able to find. It also has a number of different derivatives; such as, Daesy, O'Dace, Dacey, etc. but I just haven't been able to come up with anything further.

Dace family name.

Do not know origin of Dace name. To through some more sand into the works. My grandfathers brother spelled his last name Dace and ours was spelled Days. I also had some ancestors that spelled it both ways. One time spelling it Dace and the next Days. Have heard it spelled both ways. Also have been told it was originally spelled Dooce with a ** above one of the "o"s. This should add to the confusion.
