John Walter Dack

The earliest Dack ancestor I can locate is John Walter
Dack born Jan 1818 in Dublin, Ireland. He married Agnes
McMorris; also born in Jan 1818. She was born in Lochness, Ireland. John Walter Dack moved to Markham, Ontario, Canada
and lived the rest of his life. He was a shoemaker by trade. Does anyone know anything about his parents?

So this Jane must be the half-sister of my relative, John Dack b. 1809. His parents were William Dack and Jane Coad, and apparently William married 3 or so wives. I appreciated the pictures as I'm always looking for resemblances. I believe they have been much filtered out by now. At any rate, my pictures aren't that old of the Dacks. The oldest is of John Edward Dack from around 1865 as he looks to be in his 20's or 30's. I see that Mathew Dack started a shoe company in Canada- quite expensive and well-crafted. My Dacks became farmers and homesteaders in Nebraska and then my grandfather moved to Long Beach,California and became a banker. Thanks again..
My Jane Dack was the daughter of William Dack and Jane Harris.
She was born March 16, 1825, probably in Kitley Twp., Ontario. She married John Lehigh ca 1853 prob in Leeds County, Ontario; and died October 1914, Chicago, Illinois.

Her father William Dack was born ca 1797 in County Wicklow, Ireland. He married Jane Harris April 6, 1823 prob Kitley, Ontario. Some sources claim he died November 30, 1877, but in the 1848, 1851 and 1861 Census Returns, his wife, Jane Dack is reported as being a widow, without a husband (this is the same family as the names and ages of the widow Jane’s children match), so he must have died between 1843 and 1848.

This William Dack was the son of William Dack and Jane Coad (Code).

My Great-grandfather is John Edward Dack born 1840 to John and Jane (Nicholson). I note there were 10 children born to them. Just curious...He and his wife, Jane Wiley moved from Illinois to Okay Platte, NE and I have documentation about his life there. Did your relative end up in Nebraska?

Hi there. I expect Jane is the sister of my relative John who was born in 1809 to William Dack and Jane Code. There were 11 siblings I believe! The only photos I have are from his son (John Jr) b.1840 on, so if you have anything of Jane or other info it would be interesting. I've just heard from someone related to another of those siblings (David or Charles David). With so many kids, I'm sure there are many, many relatives.
Help wanted please in finding any information on my grandmother who died eleanor dack in 1942 and i was led to believe was born eleanor craig lumsden in 1912 but i can not find any record of her birth. She lived in newcastle upon tyne and had 4 children that i know of 2 called joyce and derek lumsden and then a jean and john dack. Apparantly she married a john dack but she died aged 30 so the dack children would have been very young as my father derek was only 7 at that time. John dack her husband was posted away somewhere when she died and had to get leave. The dack and lumsden children were then brought up by thier grandmother elizabeth craig and no one knows what happened to john dack.
If this means anything to anyone at all please get in touch druceali@aol.com
The unknown Agnes has long plagued me.
I have quite a bit of information on Dack, Dache's,etc and Code, Dodds, Reilly, Anderson,
Gibson, Morris, McMorris, etc.-. BUT unfortunately am unable to link it to my John Dack. If you will E-mail me directly, I will try to summarize what I think might be significant.
Not knowing how far you have gotten in your searches but a DACK married a CODE so the name keeps popping up in my research. A Jane Dack married John Edward Code.
Family originally from Wicklow Co. Tullow/Shillelagh/Arklow/Aghold etc. they settled in Lanarch Co. Upper Canada. Lots of information on Canadian Websites which you can access through Cyndi's lists. There is a variety of links there including passenger lists:
On Brian Bentley website and on his family tree are
Dack's/Dagg's I note William Dack(Dagg)b.1760 Aghold
d.Kitley, Ontario; Edward Dack 1808-1880 came to Canada 1817 on the "Mary and Bell"
Lots of their neighbours and their families in Wicklow came to the same area as well.

Annette Code

Note: references on the website

www.leadersoftomorrowinstitute.com/indexz.html

Carole, Am also researching same Dack family. Have not been able to find anything else about William Dack's father, Mathew. Nothing on this site has anything except his 1734 birthdate. All the information you wrote I also have from my copy of "A Record of the Dack Family", written by Helen Bailey Sisson in December 1977. (She and my mother, Marjorie Lois Dack, were cousins.)
I have lived in England since 1975 and am interested to find out where the Dacks came from in England (with Cromwell in the 1660's, so our family history goes!) I see you wrote this message six years ago. Thanks for any help, Mary Kay (McMahan) Cresswell
P.S. Are you Geraldine Bailey's daughter Carol? If so, we're cousins!

DACK siblings marrying BURDICK siblings in London?

Hi,
I see mention of Norfolk in the postings so thought I'd add this.
Interested in descendants of William Herbert DACK born c 1870 Stepney and Ethel Jane DACK born c 1872 Beverley Yorkshire.
I believe, but have not yet fully confirmed, that they married siblings Beatrice Ellen BURDICK (reg. Romford, Essex Sep qtr 1896) and Arthur George (or George Arthur M) BURDICK (reg. Middlesex Sep qtr 1896).
I think William and Ethel are siblings, the children of William DACK and Margaret someone or other.
In 1881 William and Margaret along with William and Ethel, as well as an Alice, Ellen and John, are in Poplar London, and William Snr is shown as 43 foreman builder, born Mattinhall, Norfolk.
I'm not that interested in ancestors, only descendants.
So far I've only found Ethel in 1901, shown as married, BURDICK, with two children Dorothy and Stanley, but no sign of Arthur

Regards,
Lorna
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hendersonandandrews...

Hi there. Well, as far as I can tell, William Dack & Jane Code had 11 children. I didn't see a Charles David but they (Familysearch) list a David Dack b. 1793. Is he your relative? My family descends from his brother, John whose son, John Jr is my great-grandfather. They went from Saxon Henry Illinois to Platte Nebraska and were founding fathers. There was also a Dack shoe store in that area. The pictures and information I have might not interest you because they only go back as far as John Edward Dack b 1840. From then on, I have lots of photos of them and their homes in Illinois & Nebraska. Let me know if you are still interested & I'll send them. I'd be interested to know who your grandmother is and how her father is related. I have discovered that alot of the genealogy on-line as well as in public records are often a bit inaccurate so it's like solving a string of mysteries at times. I'll e-mail you John Edward Dack's photo which is the earliest I have. Ann

I realize it's been 7 years since you posted your message but I have just begun to research my family's history. I have traced my grandfather (Edward R Dack) to William & Jane also. It went from William/Jane to John Edward to Edward Robert. I have pictures of John Dack and Edward's sister, Matilda but this side of the family is a bit obscure. It looks as if John Dack had 10 children, so there is probably a large group of cousins out there somewhere. Any other info you have would be welcome. Thanks
