I saw your post on the DiMonte family. My husband's great grandfather was Domenick DiMonte (b. around 1879) and his great-great grandfather was Michael DiMonte (b. around 1850; may have married Mary Stolfo). I think Domenick married Mary or Marie Sabatini (b. around 1894). They had 5 children - 4 boys (Michael, Harry, James and Joseph) and a girl, Marguerite. I think the family may have originally from Foggia. Do you know anything else about them?

In searching through the Rippel message boards I noticed that you mention the D'addario's from Astoria. My parents have a close friend from Astoria named Rudy D'Addario who is married to a woman named Mary. Don't know if this is any relation or a coincidence. Good Luck.
Linda
My family comes from Newark. Large family from Sant'Elia A Pianisi. We never knew this. There were 11 living children, but "roots" were not discussed.

Our grandmother, Maria Donata(or Donato) was born on Feb. 28, 1869 and died at age
55 on April 11, 1924. She's buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Newark.
Her father's name was Nicholas Massa and her mother's maiden name was
Maria Louisa Benista.

Our grandfather, Antonio, was born in 1870 and died on July 18, 1932.
He's buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. His father's name
was Pasquale and his mother's name was Angela or Angelina. Angela, our great-
grandmother was born on July 12, 1830 and died at age 98 on April 22,
1929. She was married the day that Garabaldi recaptured Italy. She's buried in Holy Cross Cemetery also.

Any of this mean anything to anybody? Thanks. Joanne

My cousin & I have been trying to research the family. We find that our grandfather, Antonio, had two brothers- Michael and Savatore. We know nothing about them or their families. Could Michael be your grandfather? They are mentioned in an old death notice that my cousin had when our great-grandmother, Angelina died.

My father's name was also Michael. He would get mail when we lived in Bloomfield, NJ for anothe Michael D'Addario. Both I believe even had the same middle name: Lewis. My father was born in 1899 in Newark. They may have been first cousins.

I will be waiting to hear from you. If you want, you can email me directly w/questions if you think we have made a connection!!! Thanks.
I think Uncle Nick and Aunt Florence were my uncle and aunt. Ask your mom if she was Little Anglie with dark hair, slender and very pretty. Did she have girls called Nona and Dara? I think we may be cousins.

Ask her if she remembers Joanne who lived in Pt Pleasant Beach and got married in 1955.

My father had four sisters and six brothers. Names were: Louis(Louie)(the barber-think he had two boys), Nick(had girls only I believe/Angie and Jo); Tony(Uncle Doc)had girls I believe; Michael(my dad) married Statia and Michael who was radio actor and Joanne/me; Solly married Rose, but had no children; Victor married Aunt Rose and had Victor and Sandy, and Charlie(died young. Was a prize fighter of sorts). Girls were: Maggie(can't remember who she married nor names of her children); Millie(Cermele)had Marion,Anthony, Dick and Michael; Jo(Williams)married Frank but I can't remember her childrens' names; and Nan who married but had no children.

(I'm just 65!). One of the girls I think was Little Marie(Marie Duardowho would have been Uncle Tony's daughter. And Jo was Joan and sister of Angie I believe. I think Angie had two girls-Nona and Dara. Younger than I am. Does this sound right to you? If so, please let me know. I think this would be great to find you all after so many years. I will be waiting to hear from you!!

Joanne

HI Susan,
I spoke to my mother (Jill Daddario Rippel) who confirmed that John Daddario (D'Addario) is my grandfather Phil Daddario's cousin. In fact after he (Phil) had past away in May I was looking through some stuff with my grandmother (Josephine) and we came accross a catalog from D'Addario Guitar Strings and my Grandmother said that prior to my grandfather's passing he had contacted his cousin to send one of his friends some strings. I am not even sure if John knows that my Grandfather past away. We all use to live in New York and relocated to Florida sometime ago. Both of my grandparents were raised in Astoria, NY. As far as I know we still have some family that reside there. It has been so hard to get information about my family because most of them have past away. It could be possible that we may be related some way. PS - My grandfather also served in WWII - strange huh?

Hi Kristy,

I actually wrote to John Daddario of D'Addario guitar strings about 22 years ago. At that time, he responded to my inquiry about his potentially being a relation to me by stating that he'd met many D'Addarios throughout his world travels. Think he also told me he had a daughter named Susan, which was a coincidence. It was a very nice letter and he sent along some D'Addario guitar string stuff with his letter, which was very nice indeed. I since gave those items to my brother, who's a bass guitar player. P.S. My father dropped the apostrophe while serving in WWII. The Army thought the apostrophe made spelling his name difficult.

Susan

D'Addario Origins

Hi, My father's name was Anthony Stephen D'Addario (when in WWII his name was changed by the Army to Daddario for ease of spelling). His parents came to Boston, Massachusetts directly from Italy many years ago. I was told that there was/is a small town in Italy named D'Addario, which is where my father's parents were from, located around the middle section of Italy, on the western side/coast(?), but I know no more information than that. His father's name was Stephen A. D'Addario. Anyone know of a small town in Italy called D'Addario? My father's father had a couple of daughters, Mellie? & another one I think and some brothers, one was named Mattie. My father was the youngest (now deceased). I've heard the name D'Addario is like the surname Smith in Italy.

Thanks, Susan :-)

Hi Joanne: Well, we are related, even though I can't figure out exactly what we call each other! Nick and Florence had Jo, Marie, and my mother, "Angie." Nona and Dara are
Marie's children. They both live in New Jersey, Dara in Bloomfield and Nona in Lake
Hopatcong. Jo's children are Cathleen, Tommy and Maureen. Cathy's in Santa Rosa, Tommy is in Costa Mesa and Maureen is in New Jersey.
All of the names you mentioned are familiar to me. I remember hearing Michael the actor on Let's Pretend on the radio when I was a

child. Jill and I were married for 22 years and have two sons, Erik (32, married to Gemma and one daughter, Sophia who is almost 2)
living in Gloucester, MA and Kurt (30 single) living in Shirley, MA. I have two brothers, Gary, living in Moosic, PA; he has a daughter, Christine, just married and living in Florida and Jeff, living in Sherman Oaks,
CA. I will be 62 in February (that's my email address - 215). And, I am coming
California next week (Saturday the 20th) to visit Jeff and his wife Anne! I can give you a call when I arrive. This is the first family connection I've made on the internet. Keep in touch. John

I do not know who his parents were yet, or if he had any siblings. He did have 5 sons though.

His daughter and wife came to America after him. Antonia his daughter Anna Dalessandro his wife. Any of this sound familiar. Luigi stayed with family while he was in Newark but the manifest is hard to read. Thanks TM.

Hi, my cousin, Joanne, already replied to your posting but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I still live in NJ and hope someday to get to Holy Sepulcher cemetery and try to find some of the D'Addario's buried there. Joanne and I have been trying to get info about our grandparents, Antonio and Maria. According to a death notice Antonio's mother, Angelina, had 2 other sons besides Antonio. They were Michael and Salvatore and both lived in Newark at the time she died. Antonio lived on Hoyt Street in Newark and owned a grocery store for many years in Newark. Could your grandfather, Michale, be Antonio's brother? Do you know if your grandfather had any connection with St. Philip Neri church in Newark? I know that's where all 'our' D'Addario's were baptized and buried from. Looking forward to hearing from you. Maybe we're related!!!

Richard, It was very nice to hear from you again. Its amazing how our stories are so common. My only source of information about the Daddario's (D'Addario's) is from my mother Jill. I have spoken with her about our conversations. She told me today that my grandfather, Philip is cousins with D'Addario Strings. My mother recalls that my greatgrandfather Pantalone worked for the New York City Highway Department. She also said that the name "Pantalone" is not very common. Im not too sure on the date of his death however, the cause of death was due to liver disease. I beleive he died between 1967 and 1968.
My mother also said that she has relatives in California. Leno Daddario and Ray Daddario. She has not been in contact with them, so she does not know if they still reside their.
I am going to try to see if I can search the web for any death records for NY to see if I can get any more information. I kind of feel like I am on a mission with this. It is all so interseting to me. If you have any helpful hints or anything else you can recall, please let me know. It has been wonderful talking to you.
Take Care,
Kristy

P.S. The invite goes both ways, if you and your family are ever in Florida, we would all love to meet you and your family. My mother makes an out of this world lasagna.

Re: D'Addario Origins

My name is Kristy, my mother's madien name is Daddario. She was born to Philip and Josephine (madien name Siricasano). Both were born in the US and resided in Astoria, New York until 1986 and moved to Florida. My Grandfather who has since past away in May has a cousin who is the creator of D'Addario Stings for guitars. My Grandfather's father's name was Pantellone D'Addario. My Grandfather took it upon himself to drop the apostrophy in hus last name. I beleive there is only one Daddario left of my Grandfathers siblings, her name is Florence Daddario and she resides in New York City. I will ask my Grandmother if she knows of your neice. I know this is a very common name & this search is probably like finding a needle in a hay stack but, what the heck - we have nothing to lose & all to gain !!!

My grandparents came from the the Abruzza area of Italy, also. My Grandfather Antonio Daddario came from Campobasso & my grandmother Anna Maria Mariano came from Limosano, Italy. Grandma was born on Feb.2,1884, but I am not sure of my Grandpa's birthdate, although I was able to see his birth recording, when I visited his hometown 4 years ago. They would not allow me to photograph the record, nor would they copy it for me. I would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on their route to Niagara Falls,NY, where they resided till their death, approximatly 40 years ago.
They changed their last name to DeDario, after they arrived in Niagara Falls, although their one son kept the original spelling.
Thank you
Rosella
