Loring Godfrey Gomer, Jr., "Sonny", age 71, passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
Born May 24, 1940 in Columbus, OHIO, he was a graduate of East High School and a member of Barnett Road Baptist Church, where he was a faithful worker in the food pantry ministry until illness prevented him from doing so.
Loring retired from the City of Columbus Street Maintenance Department after 33 years of being a "Snow Warrior" and in his "spare" time, he also owned and operated Gomer's Blacktop Sealing for 30 years before retiring fully in 2006.
He was a member of the Cups & Saucers Social Club, The Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Ohio Memorial Chapter, and spent many weekends fishing on Lake Erie.
Preceded in death by parents Loring and Catherine Gomer.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 50 years, Vernita "Polly" Gomer; daughter, Renita (Christopher) Peck; brother-in-law, William (Tawana) Hamilton of Earlington, Kentucky; and a host of relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Barnett Road Baptist Church, 1500 Barnett Rd., where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the start of service. Pastor Kevin M. Thomas, officiating.
Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street.
