Eric, I wrote a letter to one of the Dafford families in N.C. a few years ago. I received no response. I have been researching my husband's family and his grandmother was a Dafford. Her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Abbott. Sarah and Berry Dafford had two daughters. Mae Berry and Hallie, my husbands grandmother. Hallie told us that her father had been married before and had adult children when he married her mother. They were married in Georgia where we think Sarah was born. Berry died in Texas and the census of 1880 said he was born is S.C. To my knowledge, no one has been able to find out exactly where Berry was born. He was born in 1818 and died in 1885. Have you found any clues that might connect Berry to the Daffords you are researching? Hallie also said that she thought her father had fought for the North in the Civil War. I can't find any records of him fighting on either side. Any insights would be helpful. I have hit brick walls with both Sarah and Berry. Sarah was a Cherokee. She and a sister were raised by white people, never knew her birthdate or the place she was born. As I said, any insights would be helpful. You may contact me by e-mail. Thank you. Tina
