Am also in need of help with finding family. But I am not very welcomed because of a problem that is out of control and not of anything to do with me. Very much a part of Janie Alexander Dagenhart and my Aunt Dellah Dagenhart Walthall, brick walls are all around me because I am blocked by most of you on Ancestry. Have done a lot and had a lot of research done early in the 70's already - only what I had written down and kept in my personal papers. Nothing else. Would like to have my family back. I love you all and am doing this for my grandchildren and nieces and nephews and their children. It is confusing from the trees and information available because I believe my cousin dos not want me or my family to be even allowed to be a part of the family. I loved Janie and she loved me and if it were not for her I would not be here to day. I stayed with my Aunt Dellah most of my first 18 yrs and named my son after her husband, I loved them and miss them so much it hurts even more now because of the way I am being treated which is not my fault or do I know why I am being blamed for things I learn about from others who automatically believe what they are told by one other who actually has no factual foundation to say anything about me.
I have questions and have need of help but no one will help me because my cousin Jerry Dagenhart has made me the most hated person in the whole family and would some one please let me know why?
Jerry has said horrible things about my Grandfather and I can understand this because he himself has been mis informed or has been misled to believe an opinion and not facts.
I have lived in Florida for over 35 yrs - not able to go to Virginia often. Missed everyon's deaths after 1976. Was not around anyone or even in thier homes for very long, but yet I have now been accused of stealing everything in the family right up to the crown jewels. How do I get out of this other then giving up what little I was actually given and not even given what was willed to me. Jerry is forcing me to give anything I have - he believes I have and what I do have - someone please tell me what to do.

So far you have not stated who the Dagenhart was, first name and possibly date of birth and where born.

We do no not have a crystal ball to locate someone who has not been named and confirmed. Such as Robert born 1900, to Mother and Fathr, and the following children were born. in State town in NC. and married name of person he married and her maiden name and date or aprox. date of birth. Where were you born, and when and where aprox date..

Census records only go thru 1930, and in March 2012, will cover thru 1940.

I do have lots of records, with Birth Date, and where born, and the Wife's name, and possibly the parents names, including childdren.

I have lots of Dagenhart, since that was my maiden name, and my fathers surname.

See previous post. today.

You have to give me tne Dagenhart names, and what you know about them, and where they lived when you knew them.

We do not have a crustal ball to read minds.

You say she was Dagenhart? and now Basora?

start at the begining and say she was born where and when, and her father was----, and he went to school and where, in the USA.

Other children? when born? Where? Are all of them still alive? if not when did they pass away?

I am willing to help you, but, but what little you are stating does not give us clues to where and when any of this transpired.

Betty
you can contat me at Bdhery@aol.com, and will help sort some of this out, and tach you a little genealogy.

Its been a few years and if you are still looking, Manville was the son of Lawson and Catherine Warrenfeltz Dagenhart. His brother Gerald passed away in October 2010. His obituary was on the Bast Funeral of Boonsboro, Maryland Home web page. You might find relatives through that source. baststaufferfuneralhome.com

Good luck with your worthy search

I would like to correspond with you about this, Henry did not have a sister in the United States! He was born in Oelshausen, Hessen Germany, and was Hessian Soldier, captured when Washington crossed Delaware Christmas Day 1776, and was a prisioner of War.

His first daughter was born 1789, in Lincoln Co., NC.

There is a Coons connection, and we can discuss this in detail. Possibly we might reach some conclusion with these two families.

My computer is down for the time being, it is only seven months old and has been down more than up.

It will be back in service soon, and hope that is the end of problems.

Betty
Bdhery@aol.com

I noticed the name Koontz in your surname list. I am trying to connect my great-great-great grandmother to the Dagenhart family. I believe she may have been a sister to Henry as she was born before 1800 according to her tombstone. She married Adam Coons. My great-grandmother was Camilla Coons Lail, grandchild of Adam Coons. I would love to know if you have any information about this line of Coons (Coonse, Koontz) and any information about Catherine (Dagenhart?) Coons.

Betty,

I am researching this line also. I believe my great-great-great grandmother was Catherine Dagenhart Coons. She married Adam Coons. This was probably Lincoln County then but Catawba County now, in North Carolina. I found a reference in an index of wills that Adam Coons was administrator of Jacob Dagenhart's will in 1844. Catherine's birthdate based on her tombstone at St. Peter's Lutheran Church puts her at being born before 1800. I believe that she was possibly a sister to Henry. I am still researching all this and trying to make the connection. When I saw your note I thought maybe she is one of the missing daughters you were looking for. Let me know if this helps.

POW/MIA Korean War, DAGENHART

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Frederick County, Maryland as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: MANVILLE DAGENHART
Born: September 22, 1931, Caucasian
Date of loss: November 30, 1950 Prisoner of War (POW)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Dagenhart family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I am not related, just collect old papers and post from them.

From Urbana Daily Citizen dated Tuesday , March 24, 1891

A young Traveler Killed.

Otho Dagenhart, a fifteen years old boy, whose home is in Boonsborough, Washington county, Md. was struck by the east bound passenger train on the Big Four Railroad, at Deer Creek , near London , Sunday night, and instantly killed.
Re: Dagahart, daggenhardt

It's a German name. Other than that I don't know it's origins. The closest I am to finding my Degenhardt ancestors is that they sailed from Bremen on the ship Columbus. I have found many variations on this name. Some are obvious and some not : Dagenhart, Dagenhardt, Degenhardt, Degenhart, Dukenhart, Dukenheart, Dukenhardt (these last 3 were found in census'). Most of the Degenhardt's seem to have settled in Texas, Ohio and other midwest and western states. Mine settled in Massachusetts and came over about 1872 or so. My great great grandfather was Frederick Theodore Degenhardt. He often used his middle name even on official documents. Hope this helps.
yet another variation on spelling

I just ran across a new variation on the spelling of Degenhardt which I had never seen before. I found my Dagenhardt ancestor's in the 1900 census spelled DUKENHARD. The children's names and ages all line up and they are the only Degenhardt family in the area at the time. This was the first census after the father died - don't know if this had anything to do with it. Thought I would pass along this strange variation.
Christina Dagenhart m. ? Krusz m. Simon Schied

I am looking for information on my great-grandmother, Christina Dagenhart. She was married to a man named Krusz (not sure of the spelling ), but he disappeared while they were living in southern Illinois. They had five children together. She later married a Simon Schied, and had four more children.

I don't have any dates on these people, except for the birth and death of one of the daughters from the Dagenhart-Krusz marriage, Johanna Genevieve, b. Feb. 19, 1882. I don't know if she was the first of the five children, in the middle or the last, so I can't even guess as to when her parents married, or when her father disappeared.

I don't know if Christina and her Krusa husband came over from Germany as married adults, with their parents as children, or were born here. I'm kind of grasping at straws at this point.

I'm so glad you replied to this - there has got to be a link, unless all Krusz husbands made the habit of abandoning their wives! Was your grandmother's name Christine Schahl nee Krusz, or Mary Hergert nee Krusz? I have these two listed as sisters to my great-grandmother, Johanna. These names were provided by a granddaughter of Johanna, working from memory. There are two sons, Louis (who died young - maybe mid-20's) and Andrew.

I noticed your name as Starr - I have several Starrs in my line. My great-grandmother was married to a Starr (one of three husbands that we know of!), and her second husband (my great-grandfather - a Boster) married a Starr who was his cousin. His family had a history of intermarrying with the family of Hiram Starr. We might have a link on both sides of the family!
Rebecca

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the Krusz family. I know the names of the children born to Christina Dagenhart and her Krusz husband, one of whom was my great-grandmother, but I don't know his first name. Some family information given to me suggests he and Christina may have come over from Germany. After his disappearance, Christina remarried. I have been in contact with a granddaughter of my great-grandmother's brother.

This is your father's family you're inquiring about? Do you have any names we could compare? The names of the children Christina had with her first husband are: Louis, Andrew Joseph, Johanna, Christine & Mary. As I noted in my original message, great-great-grandfather Krusz went looking for work one day, and didn't come home. We don't know if he was killed in an accident, or just decided he didn't want to go back. He very well may have gone off and started a life somewhere else. He and Christina had been living in Illinois at the time.

Please do reply - I'm interested in seeing if there is a connection.

My g.grandmother lived in Russia, she was German. My grandfather and 2 of his brothers came to America in the early 1900's and left one brother behind. We have no additional information. My g.grandfather (her husband) was Andreas Distel. We are looking for any clues.

You mention that your grandfather's name was John Henry Dagenhart. What was your father's name? There is some evidence to indicate that Henry Dagenhart who settled along the Catawba in the late 1790's was Johann Henrich Degenhard, a Hessian soldier who deserted in 1779. One of his sons was also named Henry. They are my g-g-g- and g-g-g-g- grandfathers, respectively. I or my cousin can give you additional names of their other children, if you are interested.

My grandfather's name was John Henry Dagenhart, but I seem to remember that my father told me his name was actually Johann Heinrich Dagenhart. I have no idea where he was born, but probably around Taylorsville, North Carolina.
