I've been searching for information on one of the shows on KHJ's Children's Hour in 1930's--Litte King Arthur. Have you happened to find anything on it in your research? My Grandfather was one of the players in this show--Arthur Stevens.

I have no connection to this family, but found this while doing other research. This appeared in the Feb. 3, 1923 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette in a column about divorces granted in January of 1923:

"Grace B. Daggett of Washington from Elmer W. Daggett of Worcester, Mass. for intoxication. Custody of Alice E. Daggett, minor child, granted to libellant. Dunton & Morse for libellant."

Smith/Daggett Marriage

Hello, was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a photo of the Joel Smith Family and on the back a woman is named as Maria (Mary) Daggett. Her father is Joel Smith and her mother is Nancy A. Beam all from around the Hillsdale, Mich. area. I cannot find her in my family tree and thought perhaps someone from the Daggett Family may know of her? If so ...thank you in advance for your time..sincerely, Wendy

My grandmother is Edith Mary Daggett. She married James Potts in 1904. I would like to know more about Edith's siblings. She comes from a large family of 9 or 10 children. Also Edith's mother is Josephine Williams, born in 1854 in Missouri. She had 2 sisters, but I don't know anything about them. Not even their names. Thank You, Rosie

I can't wait to talk to you regarding David Daggett and all of his many children. I contacted one of his daughters in order to locate him and when I told her that I was possibly his daughter she said "great, another one". That was pretty much enough for me at the time. So much for being welcomed with open arms. Anyway I look forward to learning exactly how many siblings I actually do have for my tree.

Curious

My gggrandfather was Michael Daggett Look b. 1829. His father was Charles Look b. 1788 and his mother was Aurelia (Aurilla) Tolman.
I have been told that our family has Native American ancestry but no one knows from where.

Michael's grandfather was Samuel Look. He had a child named "Samuel" with a native woman that he never married who's last name was "Daggett". Samuel eventually married Margaret Chase. I find it interesting that Charles would give his son the name of his father's indian mistress surname as a middle name.

The other curiousity is that I read in the record's for Duke County, Maine that an indian woman with the last name "Tolman" gave her child, Prudence, to a white family to be raised. Tolman is the last name of Michael's mother.

Just wondering if anyone knows of any connection beyond coincidence....I haven't been able to determine if anyone is actually of native american heritage in my blood line.

Not a pretty story... This is a link to a book partially posted online called "Appetite for America: how visionary businessman Fred Harvey built a railroad ... By Stephen Fried" and the specific page, You can do a search on John Stewart Daggett and find more information about his father and mother who were Pasadena 'elites' he was instrumental in getting the Rose Parade going and she was an important literary figure of her day. John S. was apparently, If you can believe his wife, a jerk.

http://books.google.com/books?id=JRzC5Z6wyLYC&pg=PA274&a...

They left Iowa in 1906 and homesteaded in So Dakota, She met my grandfather Alfred Peterson) who had gone to So Dakotas from Wisconsin to homestead also. They met there, got married, and returned to his home in Mt. Horeb Wisconsin.

That's the connection.

Have a good day.

Delton John

I hope all you Doggett/Daggett researchers have found Samuel Bradlee Doggett's book online at:

http://www.archive.org/stream/historyofdoggett00dogg/history...

This particular John, (John, John II, Nathaniel, John) b. November 6, 1723 is #788
(According to other researchers, He was a private, not a captain...)He was the G-G-Grandson of the original settler John Doggett of Martha's Vineyard.

British Troops occupy Newport and Portsmouth, RI. They pillage and burn several buildings and boats in the town. Refugees from the island pour into Providence for fear of their lives. In August of 1777, the British raid Narragansett. The frigate Rose raids Block Island that same month. Rhode Island sends for reinforcements from nearby Rehoboth, MA.
It is the same year General Burgoyne is defeated at Saratoga,NY and General Washington settles in for a harsh winter at Valley Forge.

During the American Revolution, John was not a young man. He was in his fifties.John served the cause of the Colonies by being sworn into the Militia in 1777. He served as a Private in the Company of Captain Samuel Cowell. This company served in Col. Benjamin Haw's regiment of Rehoboth, MA. John took part in a secret expedition from September 23 to October 30, 1777. The Roll Call was taken in Suffolk County. This mission was a plan for a general attack on Newport, Rhode Island, under the direction of General Joseph Spencer. The goal sought was for 10,000 men to gather for this battle. By October 13, only 8,333 men were counted, John being one of them. Later, a decision was made to mount an attack if the muster revealed 6000 men available, but the count on October 28 was only 5000 men, and the plan was called off. John remained the entire time. Perhaps other's left, as it was harvest time, and they may have had to return to their farms.

Use Doggett (alternate spelling) and I think you will find a lot more information on Capt. John and Nathaniel's lineage.

Joshua Daggett of Maine

I don't have any connection to this family but found this while doing other research. I am posting hundreds of these “blurbs” because I believe it helps to see our ancestors as people rather than just names and dates and, in some cases, it helps to place where our ancestors were during a certain period of time.

This entry is from the Rockland, Maine Courier-Gazette of August 14, 1894 in the "History of Aurora Lodge" story:

"Joshua Daggett of Friendship, born in Union, Sept. 10, 1820; laborer and farmer, has been selectman and asessor; was mail contractor and carrier from 1869 to 1877; was instrumental in getting postoffice established at East Friendship, was appointed postmaster thereof, held the office for a few months and then resigned on account of change of residence. Mr. Daggett was drafted into the army March 29, 1865, reported at Augusta promptly, was sent as far as Galloup's Island, Boston Harbor, and discharged there May 23, by reason of the close of the war. He was admitted to Aurora April 13, 1864."
