MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Arthur E. Dahl, 85, of 421 Parkington Dr., died on Thursday, April 25, 2002, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.
Services will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 2107 Cedar St. The Rev. Leif Pohl will officiate. Pallbearers will be William Schafenacker, John Stevens, Don Clark, Lyle McCullough, Roy Carver Jr., Gene Fuller and Milton Carlson. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
There will be no visitation and the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
He was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Alexis, Illinois, to Ernest V. and Emma P. Olson Dahl. He married Dorothy Peterson on Sept. 10, 1944, in Monmouth, Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II.
Arthur Dahl was one of the first employees of the company that became HON Industries originating in Muscatine. He retired as Senior Vice-President of HON in 1981.
At the time of his death, Arthur was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, and had served on the board of directors of the Trust since its inception. Mr. Dahl was appointed by the Governor of Iowa to serve on the Investment Advisory Board of the Iowa Employees Retirement System and the Iowa Product Development Commission. He was also involved in the United Way, Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and the predecessor to the Muscatine Development Corporation.
He had been a member of the board of Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, which he had attended. Both he and his wife were active members of Grace Lutheran Church in Muscatine.
He is survived by two sons, John Arthur Dahl and his wife, Linda Thornton Dahl, of Lincolnshire, Illinois, and Robert Alan Dahl, of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren, Eric and Emily Dahl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy, in 1994, and two sisters.
