If you came down from a John Dolly, then yes the original spelling was Dahle. I also descended from Johann Dahle which became John Dolly when he settled in the US after the Revolutionary War.

I would love to share info if this is the same person you have been looking at.

I don't belong to the site. Do you have a link for it?

An uncle of mine had done all sorts of research on the Clarion county Dunkles back in the 70's and I'm kind of picking up the torch for him. It gets very confusing with so many that had the same names and there sure weren't any fertility issues. There's so many of them. It's been real hard to keep track of who belonged to who.

Kate

Cool, a Duckle. As you probably noticed the Dunkle, Henry and Fitzgerald families live in the same areas and appear in the census in the same groups. They probably attended the same churches. It usually goes together. My John Fitzgerald married Susanna Dunkle and so if his sisters married Susanna's brother (s) would not be unusal in the early 1800's. John had 2 brothers who's children married into the Henrys. John's first marriage ended and I have no idea how or why, but he then married Mary Beer (s) and had children with her. Do you belong to the Duckle site?

I'm pretty sure that the Fitzgerald's had married into John Henry's line, with the Peter and Michael in his line. My gg grandfather is John Dunkle son of Peter Jr and his first wife Mary (Plummer I think). My name is Kate Dunkle Hapeman. I've been researching our line for about 4 years and keep knocking my head on Peter Sr. and John Henry's sons all having the same name and being the same age.

Do you have records of any kind? This happened in the early 1800's and it is a tough one. I can not remember if I have any concerte evidence of who Mary Ann Fitzgerald was married too.
Both John Henry and Peter Sr. Dunkle had two sons named Michael and Peter, both born in the same year. Amy Phetty is listed as married to both men and having children with bot at the same time. I believe that Amy Phetty was married to Peter Sr. and Amy Bower/Boyer was married to John Henry. Peter Jr's parents were Peter Sr and Barbara Watson, according to what I've pieced together.

Hello again, I am looking through my files and I see a tree on Ancestry under Worrell, Olson History by Karen Goodwin She has a Johannes Dunckel 1703 Germany immigration 1730 to Phiadelphia Pa.

I have 1810 census showing Peter sr. in Toby, Armstrong Co. There is also a Mickal sr. in same census. 1830 I see a Jacob, William and a Henry.

The first census my Fitzgerald show-up in area: My Mathias and his son John live next door so to speak to Peter and Henry. 1840 everyone is still close together and the Kifer family and John henry Dunkle are in the neigborhood. There is a John Jacob Dunkle in the 1850, not sure if someone added a middle name to a previous Dunkle. It get more confusing from here. I know for sure that Dunkles moved on to Ohio.

Logue, That name rings a bell. Hi, boy, you have a point. I know that since those postings in '03 I have pretty much have a handle on my Father's Fitzgerald family and he passed away in August of 08; so did my sister. The Mathias Fitzgerald's left Montgomery/Chester Co. and moved to Mifflin then on to Clarion/Venango Co. in 1823. My John and Mary Ann were married to Dunkles by the 1830 census. I know there were several Ven/Clarion families that may have travelled at the same time from the same place as my Fitzgerald's. May have wagon trained the trip. York Co. is a stetch. I will look in my records. My email is ethel.b.stark@verison.net

Does anyone know who Peter Dunkle's parents were? I have seen postings that it was Heinrich Dunkle and Amy Mary Bower, but that seems strange since Amy Mary Bower was apparently from York County, PA. I don't know if the Dunkle family ever lived in York County. It seems that they went from Montgomery County to Franklin County, and then up into Clarion County. Anyway, I am confused and would appreciate any help.

Daniel Dahle - Clarion County related to John Dehle Clarion County?

I have just learned that there is a very strong possibility that Dahle is my great, great grandmother's maiden name. I believe that I have found her (Mahala) in Clairon County, Madison Twp. in 1850, page 100.

I found the following listing:

Dwelling: 423
Daniel Dahle 47
Elizabeth 36
Mahala 16
Jeremiah 14
Hezekiah 12
Purella 9
Sylvester 7
Ivers? 4
Malinda 2

There is also a John and Catherine Dehle listed in Clarion County, Helen Twp., in 1850. They are living next door to Jeremiah Pierce whom Mahala married.
Dwelling 503
John 57
Catherine 56
Henry 28
Hannah 22
John 21
Daniel 16
Betsey Jean 11
Lewis 25
Hannah 25
Enos 2
Anna Maria 1/12

It is conceivable that Daniel and John are brothers and in Daniel's traveling to visit, Mahala met Jeremiah who lived next door.

Would you have any confirmation as to Daniel and John's relationship or that of Mahala.

Searching for info on the Dehle / Dahle family's found in Madison Twp 1850 Census & Helen Twp 1850 census.

In particular, looking for any information ref: Mahala Dahle bn abt 1834, daughter of Daniel Dahle bn abt 1809. Mahala married Jeremiah Workman Pierce of Helen Twp and passed in 1867 in East Deer Twp Allegheny Co.

Other Dahle /Dehle associated names:

Jeremiah
Hezekiah
Ivens
Malinda
Penella
Sylvester
Neva

Sounds like some strong ties to Dahles on this board. Hoping someone can add any pieces to our puzzle?

Thanks,..Ron
Peter & Ingborg Dahle of Worth County, Iowa

I'm searching for information on the family of Peter & Ingborg Dahle of Silver Lake Twshp, Worth County, Iowa. Their daughter Palma O. "Polly" (b. 1913) married Arthur Selvig in 1939 in Chicago (possibly in Iowa). Peter was born in 1872 in Norway and Ingborg was born in 1876 in Norway. Peter's family immigrated to Winnebago County, IA sometime in the 1870s. I'm wondering about this family primarily because I was always told that Polly was from Sioux City and I didn't know if I had the right family or not.

Chris Angelica

Hi Debbie,
My Dahle line runs Philip, Peter Sr., Peter Jr., Clemens, Allison, Harry C., (my grandfather). My grandfather's parents apparently split up when my grandfather was very young and I can't find any information about Allison Dahle other than that he was born around 1870. I've walked all over the cemetery at the intersection in Shippenville but somehow missed the one below the Lutheran church. I live in Mercer County and do get over that way occasionally--but not in this weather!
Jay

Yes I am still here. Ther are a minimum of 26 Dahle/Dales listed in Clarion Co. that are not in the boroughs. I have not thoroughly checked the cemetery at the intersection in Shippenville, however I have checked every stone in the cemetery down the hill behind the Lutheran Church, which I have pictures of. Most of the Dales are at the top left as I remember. I should have written the rows down..sorry. I only live 5 miles from Shippenville. If you ever come in this way I could meet you at the Historical Society and gladly share what I have. Once amonth I see Sally(Dahle) Summerville who is in her 90's and still has a sound mind. She is the grand-daughter of Thomas T Dale. Let me know how I can help. I descend thru Philip, Jacob, then Lavina

My GGrandfather, Allison Dahle, was Elmer's brother. I don't have a lot of data on them. I do know their parents were Clemons Allison Dahle (1846-1909) and Matilda Swartzfager (1849-1912). They had one other brother, Homer, and a sister, Jessie. Elmer was born in Shippenville so I assume that's where the family lived. I've walked through some of the cemeteries in Shippenville and have found some Swartzfagers but none of the Dahles.

Thank you for your question. It's not likely this is what you want to hear. I have been told my dad arrived in America in 1900, with the name "Dale" and eventually married (on 10/20/30) a Galena Norwegian who came to America at age 3 in about 1881, whose last name I can't spell without looking at my birth certificate. Seems you don't need that info anyway, because Dahl and Dale are not where you wanted to go.

Enjoy your day.

Jim
