Re: Confusion between Theodore Dahlen and Theodore E. Dahlen

My grandfather, Theodore Dahlen, born in 1886, came to the US from Norway in 1904 and died in 1959. His sons included my father, Theodore E, as well as Thomas (still alive), Earl (died as a baby), and Harvey (died around 1929 in a plane crash). Odds are we are not related. If your father is Theodore E, he might be the one who died in Hennepin County within a couple of weeks of my grandfather, who died in neighboring Ramsey County. More confusion between the two is due to the fact that my grandfather worked for Northern Pacific Railroad and lived along the route from Minneapolis to Staples, MN and into Fargo, Jamestown, and other North Dakota towns. For some odd reason, both of them seemed to be in close geographic proximity to each other.

Happy hunting! If you find anything about my grandfather, I would appreciate it.

Hi Pamela, I think we might belong to your family tree. Clarence Dahlen was my grandfather. Pearl and Edna were my aunts. I remember when I was really young going to visit Grandma Dahlen who was in her early 90s when she passed away. Aunt Edna was married to Joseph Skozen who I believed divorced him in her 80s. Aunt Pearl was married to Clifford Shaw who was a great man with a big smile. He developed throat cancer and had his voice box removed. He went around to schools discouraging kids not to smoke. Aunt Pearl and Edna moved to Florida in their later years and Pearl lived in her nineties and Edna late 80's. I still make many desserts that came from Edna. My grandfather Clarence married Dorothy Rieger and they had two children. Robert, my uncle and my wonderful mother Barbara. My grandma died when I was 5 and my grandfather a year later. I am 51 now, so my memories of them are at a very young age. My mother died three years and she was the last of the Dahlens/Riegers except for my brother and me.

Nollie, I'm curious of Harry Dahlin is the husband of my Mother's cousin, Ethel. They lived in the Chicago area. In the 1950s and '60s, I remember Harry coming to family gatherings with advancing MS. He was a wonderful man with a great and curious mind. In his later years in a nursing home, he was constantly teaching others to keep him mind active - and he enjoyed people.

Ethel was a little younger than my mother who was born in 1914. Ethel's maiden name was Heiss with father Samuel and mother Helen Heiss. Ethel had brothers Daniel and Sam.

I have been searching for information on my grandfather, Theodore Dahlen. He was born in 1887 in Norway and died 11 Apr 1958 in Ramsey County, MN. Oddly enough, Theodore Ellingson Dahlen was born in 1882 in N. Dakota and died 27 Apr 1958 just a few miles away in Hennepin County, MN. Those who are working on Theodore Ellingson may want to check records for birth dates, as well as mother's name. Theodore listed his mothers name as Peterson.

Hi,

I am researching the Dahlen line of a family friend. I have Magnus Dahlen's arrival (from Sweden) into the U.S. The family ultimately settled in Minnesota.

However, I appear stuck on the exact location within Sweden, from where the family came. I am looking for the city/province, in order to continue researching the family line in Europe. Magnus E. Dahlen was born in Sweden in March, 1849. His son, Magnus Jr., was also born in Sweden, December 1866. Magnus (Sr.) remarried after Jr.'s mother passed away. The wife, at the time of immigration to the States, was Karin. She was Jr.'s stepmother. We do not know the name of Magnus Jr.'s birth mother, at this time. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
