IOWA City, Iowa -- A. Winfield 'Win' Dahlgran, 87, Iowa City, formerly of West Branch, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Legacy Pointe, Iowa City.
Memorial at the West Branch United Methodist Church. The Rev. Scot Patrick will officiate. Memorials may be made to the West Branch United Methodist Church. Barker Funeral Home, West Branch, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Dahlgran was born on June 20, 1916, in Riverton, the son of Walter and Clara Chrestensen Dahlgran. He married Dorothy Spears on Sept. 5, 1942, in Bemidji, Minn.
He graduated from Riverton High School and later from Iowa State University in 1938 with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry.
He served in World War II as a pilot, flying B17's for the Army Air Corp.
He worked for General Mills in the Larro Feed Division for more than 20 years and then for the Department of Defense in St. Louis, Mo., for many years before retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, West Branch. He was also a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Bemidji. He volunteered with the Salvation Army and received the Governor's Award for Volunteerism. He also enjoyed gardening and playing golf.
Survivors include two daughters, Randi Whitman and her husband, George, of Gallup, N.M., and Holly Searson and her husband, Jim, of West Branch; three grandchildren, Kristine Heykants of Minneapolis, Minn., Blaine Heykants of Coralville and Julianne Jensen of West Branch; a great-grandson, Kaleb Winfield Sexton of West Branch; and a brother, Harold Dahlgran and wife Marge of Shenandoah.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Elfrida.
