Carleton-Dahlgren Vows Solemnized
Miss Betty Ann Dahlgren became the bride of Dr. Milton Lee Carleton in the Crown Heights Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 7:30 p.m. September 28.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Dahlgren, Oklahoma City, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Carlton of Crosby, Texas. Dr. Carlton is residing in Lake Charles.
The Rev. J. Clyde Wheeler officiated at the ceremony. Mrs. Ted McElroy, organist, played the traditional nuptial music and accompanied Joseph Benton, soloist.
The sanctuary was decorated with arrangements of white gladioli flanked on each side by 14 branch candelabra against a background of greenery. In the chancel, centered behind the communion table, was a candelabra with lighted tapers. A satin covered pre dieu (sic) was placed in the center of a gladioli and candelabra arrangement with a background of jade greenery. A white cloth marked the bridal aisle and family pews were tied with satin bows.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a gown of chantilly lace and gossamer tulle over satin. The elongated bodice was designed with a Sabrina neckline and long tapered sleeves. The front of the bouffant skirt featured alternate tiers of lace and pin pleated tulle and fell into a train in back. Her chapel train was edged with a dust ruffle of tulle. Her fingertip veil of imported illusion fell from a cloche of lace embroidered in seed pearls.
The bridal bouquet was a shower arrangement of white feathered carnations and stephanotis blossoms tied with satin streamers.
Mrs. E. George Dahlgren, Jr. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, served the bride as matron of honor. She wore a cocktail length dress of copen blue iridescent taffeta. Matching velvet framed a shallow yoke at the scoop neckline and a matching velvet inset in the skirt was finished at the waistline with a flat bow. She wore a velvet bow on her head, white shorty gloves, and shoes to match her gown. Her bouquet was a shower arrangement of white gladioli blossoms with copen blue pompoms.
Miss Dorothy Kamp, Oklahoma City, and Miss Sandra Carleton, sister of the groom of Crosby, Texas, were bridesmaids. Their gowns, accessories, and bouquets were identical to those of the matron of honor.
Paul Carleton, brother of the groom of Crosby, Texas, served as best man. Arthur Hoklins III, Lake Charles; E. George Dahlgren, Jr., brother of the bride, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dr. H.G. McFarland, and Dr. W.B. Fowler, both of Shreveport, La, served as groomsmen and ushers.
A reception was held immediately after the ceremony in the social hall of the church. The bride’s table arrangement was one of garlands of maidenhair fern, white asters, and copen blue pompoms. Five branched candelabra were placed on each side of the cake arrangement.
Assisting at the reception were Mrs. Byron Lamun, Mrs. Leonard Babcock, Mrs. Lawrence Stone, Miss Nancy Roberson, all of Oklahoma City; Mrs. John Miller, Mrs. Keith Kashwer and Mrs. Leroy Coppock from Stillwater, Oklahoma; Mrs. Eugene Needham, Miss Jane Ann Robinson, and Miss Louise Lansden for Norman, Okla., and Miss Jane Babcock from Lake Charles.
For the wedding trip to Colorado the bride chose a sheer wool ensemble in mink brown. The costume was a sheath dress with a silk chiffon top and a short bolero jacket. Her accessories were brown and she wore a bronze chrysanthemum corsage.
The bride has been serving as field director with the Sowela Area Council of Camp Fire Girls in Lake Charles.
The groom is a dentist practicing at 920 ½ Ryan Street.
Out of town guests included: Mrs. W.W. Harper, grandmother of the groom, West Columbia, Texas, Mrs. Paul Carleton, Crosby, Texas; Dr. and Mrs. Cliff Breaud, Levelland, Texas; Mrs. H.G. McFarland, Shreveport, La., and Miss Carolyn Dutton of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
