Looking for a lead on Fredrik Dahlgren b. 13 Nov 1776

Hi,

I've lost the trail and I'm looking for a clue as to where to return. He appears in Lindberg parish, with the profession of "Krogen", and marries Catherina Andersdotter 23 Nov 1806. There are no other Dahlgren families in Lindberg and he was not born in this parish. I've searched for his birth in all the surrounding parishes, and most of all the parishes in Halland. I searched the all the parish immigration records available, and the births of all of his children for clues, with only perhaps one.

At the baptism of his first daughter, Inger Lena (1822.18.44800) the witnesses are Majoren Anton Morman, and Handeliman Jenson of Lindhoff. I've attached a .jpg since my reading of Swedish hand writing in sometimes flawed.

I believe Maj. Anton Mormon is perhaps Scanian? Does anyone know more about him? Is he a well known historical figure?

Swedish Dahlgren In Nova Scotia

This house contains a Church of England chapel on the second floor. The chapel has a church style window unique to the area. The property is also known as the Dahlgren house.

There was definitely a structure on the 15-acre lot that Mr. John P. Dahlgren purchased from his brother-in-law James Payson because he paid 100 pounds for 15 acres.

The actual construction date of the house is not known. If James built the house, the date was probably 1809.

Some believe that John Dahlgren built the house, which would make it no older than 1831.

The present bridge was built in 1838/39 and a number of houses in the area were built in the early 40's. This house seems to be older.
"Mr. Jeremiah Dahlgren was a man of retiring disposition, of irreproachable character and a regular attendant at the Episcopal Church of which he was a valued member."
After a serious illness with the Grippe, he died of heart trouble suddenly at the age of 73. He left three sons and a daughter; also brother William and sister E. Nichols. His father John P. Dahlgren, the first Dahlgren to live here, resided on Brier Island before coming to Weymouth where he married ELIZABETH TILESTONE PAYSON; daughter of Nathaniel, sister to James. John P. died at the age of 76 in 1858.

John was a native of Gothenburg, Sweden. He was sailing to Italy, during Napoleonic Wars, with a cargo of grapes when he was made prisoner and taken to France. After the war, he was sent to Halifax. Mr. Dahlgren was a charter member of the Columbia Division, No. 24. The Dahlgrens and the Paysons gave some of their lands to have a church built. The old cemetery is still there, however the church burned. The Dahlgren house has a worship space upstairs used by the family in those days. These families are mostly people who worshipped at St. Thomas Church.

Wright County Iowa Dahlgrens

I have been trying to trace my Dahlgren line back to Sweden. What I have is from the small amount of family history that was passed down and what I can piece together from census records. I can get back to the first family members to come America, but no further.

My gr gr grandparents were Lars Dahlgren and Caroline Bengston both born in Sweden. They had 6 children; Gus (abt 1867), Lars J (my gr grandfather, abt 1870), Emil (abt 1874), Alma (abt 1876, may have married a Hardy), Carl (abt 1879), and Oscar (abt 1885). Lars, Caroline, and the four youngest came to the US in 1890 on the Gallia which arrived in NY on July 11. It appears that Gus and Lars J came in advance but I don't have any information on how or when.

I have been trying to locate information on my gr grandfathers siblings and their descendents in hopes that it would lead me to more history.

Please let me know if this sounds like your Dahlgrens and if you have information about this family that you could share. I'd love to learn more and share what I have.
(Published in the Lake Charles American Press for Sunday September 30, 1956, p. 31,Lake Charles, La.)

Carleton-Dahlgren Vows Solemnized

Miss Betty Ann Dahlgren became the bride of Dr. Milton Lee Carleton in the Crown Heights Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 7:30 p.m. September 28.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.G. Dahlgren, Oklahoma City, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Carlton of Crosby, Texas. Dr. Carlton is residing in Lake Charles.

The Rev. J. Clyde Wheeler officiated at the ceremony. Mrs. Ted McElroy, organist, played the traditional nuptial music and accompanied Joseph Benton, soloist.

The sanctuary was decorated with arrangements of white gladioli flanked on each side by 14 branch candelabra against a background of greenery. In the chancel, centered behind the communion table, was a candelabra with lighted tapers. A satin covered pre dieu (sic) was placed in the center of a gladioli and candelabra arrangement with a background of jade greenery. A white cloth marked the bridal aisle and family pews were tied with satin bows.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a gown of chantilly lace and gossamer tulle over satin. The elongated bodice was designed with a Sabrina neckline and long tapered sleeves. The front of the bouffant skirt featured alternate tiers of lace and pin pleated tulle and fell into a train in back. Her chapel train was edged with a dust ruffle of tulle. Her fingertip veil of imported illusion fell from a cloche of lace embroidered in seed pearls.

The bridal bouquet was a shower arrangement of white feathered carnations and stephanotis blossoms tied with satin streamers.

Mrs. E. George Dahlgren, Jr. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, served the bride as matron of honor. She wore a cocktail length dress of copen blue iridescent taffeta. Matching velvet framed a shallow yoke at the scoop neckline and a matching velvet inset in the skirt was finished at the waistline with a flat bow. She wore a velvet bow on her head, white shorty gloves, and shoes to match her gown. Her bouquet was a shower arrangement of white gladioli blossoms with copen blue pompoms.

Miss Dorothy Kamp, Oklahoma City, and Miss Sandra Carleton, sister of the groom of Crosby, Texas, were bridesmaids. Their gowns, accessories, and bouquets were identical to those of the matron of honor.

Paul Carleton, brother of the groom of Crosby, Texas, served as best man. Arthur Hoklins III, Lake Charles; E. George Dahlgren, Jr., brother of the bride, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dr. H.G. McFarland, and Dr. W.B. Fowler, both of Shreveport, La, served as groomsmen and ushers.

A reception was held immediately after the ceremony in the social hall of the church. The bride’s table arrangement was one of garlands of maidenhair fern, white asters, and copen blue pompoms. Five branched candelabra were placed on each side of the cake arrangement.

Assisting at the reception were Mrs. Byron Lamun, Mrs. Leonard Babcock, Mrs. Lawrence Stone, Miss Nancy Roberson, all of Oklahoma City; Mrs. John Miller, Mrs. Keith Kashwer and Mrs. Leroy Coppock from Stillwater, Oklahoma; Mrs. Eugene Needham, Miss Jane Ann Robinson, and Miss Louise Lansden for Norman, Okla., and Miss Jane Babcock from Lake Charles.

For the wedding trip to Colorado the bride chose a sheer wool ensemble in mink brown. The costume was a sheath dress with a silk chiffon top and a short bolero jacket. Her accessories were brown and she wore a bronze chrysanthemum corsage.

The bride has been serving as field director with the Sowela Area Council of Camp Fire Girls in Lake Charles.

The groom is a dentist practicing at 920 ½ Ryan Street.

Out of town guests included: Mrs. W.W.
These names are very, very common, so of course lots of people have matches to those names. It is necessary to provide additional information, such as birthdates, birthplaces, when they emigrated, locations after emigration, etc.

Judy

Ebba Dahlgren

I am trying to trace my grandmother's family, but the only info I have is that her name is Ebba Dahlgren and that she was born in Chicago, IL in Aug. 1890. My father states that his understanding is that she was in Malmo, Saunders, NE in 1900, so I'm interested whether she may appear in the 1900 census. I don't know her father's name. I would be interested in any info anyone can supply on her family. Thank you.

Ulric Dahlgren, son of John

"Made a colonel when his leg was amputated after Gettysburg, the son of Adm. John A. Dahlgren returned to active duty on crutches. Hobbling about on a wooden leg, he led a raid against Richmond in which he was killed while carrying papers that suggested Jefferson Davis was the target of a Federal murder plot. Some Confederates were almost as interested in Ulric Dahlgren's fancy cork leg as in the incriminating docluments they found on his body. '

I am not related to Ulric, I am just passing on this information, which comes from a book titled "Civil War Curiosities" by Webb Garrison. 1994.
Joyce

"Handicaps that did not involve amputation might not be as noticeable, but they could be serious. Having complied with orders that required him to observe an eclipse of the sun, Union Adm. John A. Dahlgren suffered permanent eye damage. Also among Federal leaders, the secretary of the treasury, Salmon P. Chase, and Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler had serious eye defects."

I am not related to these men, I am just passing on this information which comes from a book titled "Civil War Curiosities" by Webb Garrison. 1994.
Joyce

Ulric Dahlgren

"One of the most unusual of severly handicapped fighting men was J.N. Ballard, a member of Mosby's Rangers. A direct hit by a Federal bullet splintered bones of one leg so badly that surgeons told him he wouldn't live without amputation.
Literally "biting the bullet" while scalpel and saw were being wielded, Ballard was considered by his comrades to be unfit for additional action. Hence they were amazed whe the amputee hobbled into camp wearing the splendid cork leg found on the body of Union Col. Ulric Dahlgren when he was killed near Richmond."

I am not related to either man, I am just passing on this information which comes from a book titled "Civil War Curiosities" by Webb Garrison. 1994.
Joyce

I am looking for a friend I enjoyed as we were growing up in the south. She left the south for the northeast after highschool and I do not remember her married name. We have not been able to find her for our school reunion. She was called "Honey" DAHLGREN, and I would love to hear from her. Would appreciate any info on her. Thanks

Bruno Anderson Dahlgren 1860-1920

Looking for info about Bruno Anderson Dahlgren, born in Lidkoping, Sweden in October of 1860. He died in Jamestown, NY in 1920. He was the father of my Grandmother Anna, who he gave up for adoption after his wife died in 1902. His wifes name was Emma Person (?). Any info about him or his wife, especially their parentage, would be greatly appreciated. Paula Dahlgren of Utah; if you are out there please contact me. My daughter and I have taken over this job from my Mom who you had contact with. I have put together a list of Anna's descendants for you to add to your Dahlgren Family tree.

Ebba Dahlgren

Ebba Dahlgren is listen in the 1900 census for Mariposa TWP, NE, father A. P. Dahlgren and Selma. Also has sister Hildegard and brother Friedolph(?) listed. Birth records on Family Search show Hildegard's father as Andrew P. Dahlgren and mother as Hannah Nelson Dahlgren. 1880 census for Rockford, Winnebago, IL list an A. P. Dahlgren, with wife Magnella and son Richard.

Since Ebba was born in Chicago in 1890, I believe all the listings are for the same family, but so far I can't find anything to verify that A. P. Dahlgren is the same as Andrew P. Dahlgren and that he had at least 3 wives, nor can I find any info that would indicate what happened to the children other than Ebba who was my grandmother and married Oscar W. Hjelm in Bingham Idaho in 1913.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
