I have some information that indicates Christoff Dahnke's father was Erdmann Dancke - Born: Abt 1654, Malchow-Cloister, Germany. I don't know how accurate that information is... I was also given some information on Hans Danke who lived in Parchim in the Marktstrate in the end of the 15th century who paid tax in the year 1496
for the 'Kaiserbede' ( a special war tax).

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who may have information on these people.

Michelle - Since you posted your message 3 years ago it's a long shot that you'll see mine. From what I've picked up, it would be highly unlikely that the Dahnke's (Dahncke, Dancke, Danke) had a coat of arms. I had a possible distant relative do some checking in Germeny and it seems that they were peasant types. One was a shoemaker. Folks like that didn't have a coat of arms - they usually worked for people with a coat of arms ;-)

Fred

Danagh- Buffalo 1878

Hi,
This is a stretch, but just in case it provides a clue, on Mar. 1, 1878, Eliza Danagh signed my g.grandmother's autograph book in Buffalo (Black Rock section) N.Y. (Some of my grandmother's family was from Alsace.) There is also the signature of S.F. Danagh, no date, but probably around that same time.

Dahnke surname

Michelle - there are a number of different spellings of Dahnke: DAHNCKE, DANCKE, DAHNCK, DANCKEN are a few of my ancestors in Germany from Malchow. Also, don't forget here in the U.S., census takers made up spellings as they went along and many people changed the spelling of their names.

to Ralf Dahnke (RDahnke@gmx.de) may be able to shed some light for you.
