My husband is a DAKE; his mother, Hilda L. Dake told him that about 5 generations back, in the Dake family there was a Fanny SLY, who was Cherokee. Might be a connection. Have you contacted Maurice DAKE, the official Dake/Deake family genealogist at dakehomedot com. It is free and a wealth of his and other's information. His research is extensive and might be able to help.

Re: Samuel Wing Dake

I was re-reading your old post and it reminded me about another Deake/Dake family that I am researching. I have been trying to find the family of Julius William C. Deake. I know that is father was William R. Deake who is buried at the Whitesville Rural Cemetery, Independence, Allegany County, NY, with his wife. I also know that Julius Deake's uncle was a Cyrus Towner Deake who went through school at the Nunda Literary Institute in 1841 (Nunda, New York) and was from Mount Morris, New York. At the same time Cyrus Deake was in school there was also a S. Deake and a C.J. Deake enrolled. I also found reference to a Samuel Deake in the Nunda/Mount Morris area as being a school teacher. My family is from this area but as yet I haven't connected any of these people. A William Deake/Dake was also the first post master in this area as well. Go to my web site at www.dakehome.com and look at the home page of people that I am researching. It gives more details on both of these people.

I am trying to find out information on Samuel's father, William Dake, my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. All I know is Samuel's information states William, his father was born in New York. I am trying to see from where my line goes back to, England or Ireland I suspect with possible Deake instead of Dake at that time. Also want to know if the line is in relationship to Crawley P. Dake. It seems all of my Great Grandfathers ended up in the same Michigan town as the Great Marshall Dake. Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Now you have peaked my interest. I had Harley and william and their wives in my database but couldn't connect them to my family as yet. I am off the Deake/Dake line that started in Rhode Island and they settled in SW New York in the 1830's, not far from where Harley lived. I would love to get more information from you to see if I can't connect to your family. You can see all of my research going back to the 1500's in England on my web site at www.dakehome.com
My email address is mldake@comcast.net

Hello,
Our father Raymond W. Dake has passed away and we are trying to find out any information about our heritage on his side. He is originally from Long Island NY. His father was also Raymond Willis Dake Senior and his mothers name is Florence we are not sure her maiden name. We know my father's grandmother was of Cherokee heritage and his father is of Spain heritage. We believe the name might have been Drake and the r was dropped at some point. There has been some reference according to our mother of a relation to Sir Francis Drake. Any info would be very much appreciated.
Eileen and Raymond Dake JR

James K. Dake

I know this isn't really the place for this, so if whomever moderates this board decides to delete it so be it. Never the less I feel compelled to honor the memory of a great member of the Dake family, my Grandfather-in-law James Klug Dake. James was born on October 26, 1918 in New London WI, he died on March 13, 2009 at the Veterans home in King WI. He was laid to rest today March 17,2009. James served in the Navy from 1937 to 1945 surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the war he farmed and raised a large family.

I have been a part of his family for only 14 years, but I'll miss him like he was my own Grandfather. So on this St. Patricks Day I'll say Slan go foill Grandpa Dake.

Nathan Beyer

You branch of the family is probably from what I refer to as the Southern branch. The family originated in Virginia area and pretty much stayed in the south. My branch started in Rhode Island and pretty much stayed in the north; however, there was one family that moved to Tenn. so if you can go back far enough, it could be the same branch.
