Hi, I understand from my mother that Pauline split from Ray Hayward in Canada and married a Canadian pastor. As far as I know she stayed in Canada with her daughter.Last I heard she was in Alberta, I do not have a subscription to search Canada so I put this thread on to see if anyone in Canada picked it up. Are you in touch with Muriel and her family they are also researching the family tree on ancestry. Have you had any contact with my dads 2nd family? Do you live in Hull? I did not know your mam married twice I thought she died when I was still a girl and was married to George Millington. Are you researching on ancestry?

Hi Chris,

In the early Irish records the spellings Dale, Dales, Deal, Deales etc were used for the same people depending on who was wielding the pen at the time.

Family legend suggests that four Dale(s) brothers came from Scotland in the 17th century, one settling in each of Antrim, Derry, Armagh and Down.

I have been working with others internationally on tracking down Irish Dales. I descend from those who settled in Derry while one of my correspondants descends from Antrim Dales. DNA analysis shows a common ancestor back a few hundred years lending credence to the four brothers story.

I would love to find a Down Dales descendent who would have his DNA test done to see if we can link those Dales with ours.

I could not find any Morrison-Dale(s) links in my records but have been focussing my research on Derry with only Dale(s) from Down recorded where I found them in the civil records.

Ron Dale

Hello,
The name Dales recurs in numerous generations of my Morrison family. There is a tradition of handing down Mother's maiden names, and so I suspect a marriage between a Dales and a Morrison.

Both families can be found in Saintfield, County Down around the early 1800s.

If anyone has a Morrison connection I would be very interested to share information.

Many thanks
Chris Kee

Dales DNA

In researching Irish records I note that in a number of cases the surnames Dale and Deal are both the same people. Dale and Deal were pronounced the same way--like stake and steak or brake and break and therefore were recorded depending on the spelling preference of the recorder. An "S" was often added so you can have a John Deals baptising a James Deal and a Sarah Dale and then being finally buried as John Dales.

I descend from Dales from County Derry and have just submitted my DNA for analysis. Family legend suggests that the Dale/Deal/Dales of Ireland all descend from four Dale brothers who came to Ireland ca 1690 and fanned out to Derry, Down, Armagh, and Antrim.

I would be interested in contacting any Dales descendents who trace back to Ireland and am particularly interested in any who have had their DNA done or who are anticipating having it done,

Ron Dale

Hi,

Working on my connection with the Dales family thru Catherine Louise Dales, b. 20 Oct 1832. She married William Betts Stowell, 31 Dec 1858. She was the daughter of James Dales and Elizabeth Case.

James Dales... the son of William T Dales and Catherine Cavan who is the son of John Dales and Jane Ballagh.

Does any of this match with what you have ? My information is second and third generation, handed down and I am trying to confirm the information.

Catherine Dales and William Betts Stowell had a daughter Dora Adell Stowell who married Lucius Lester Russell, Sr. My gggrand parents.

Thank you, in advance, for taking the time to read this and for your reply.

Michael Hildebrand

Read you posting about the Dales, Stowells, Suhrs. My grandfather, Frederick W. Suhr, b 1886. He was the son of Charles F. Suhr b 1856 and Flora Belle Stowell b 1864. Charles and Flora Belle had three other children, Mary Louise, Oliver and Edna. Do you have any further infomation of Charles? My information on the Suhr side of the family ends with Charles.

Do you need or would you like information on Frederick and his children? I was familiar with some of the Stowells, as we visited in Wellsboro often when I was a child.

Glenda Webster

I can find nothing on her at all other than date of birth. She is on the 1860 census for Kortright, NY alonh with parents and grandparents.
Pasadena Daily Star
Pasadena, California
09 Sep 1889

Hymeneal

At the residence of the bride's parents on Morton avenue yesterday, Miss Flora B. Eddy was united in marriage to Mr. Chas. S. Dales, one of Santa Monica's prosperous merchants. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. E. Harris in his usual felicitous manner and was witnessed by a goodly company who, upon its conclusion, set down to an elegant wedding breakfast prepared by Mrs. Eddy.

The young people took the train for Santa Monica after the usual congratulations and social enjoyment, where they will reside. Miss Eddy is from Lawrence, Kan., and formerly occupied a responsible position in the Topeka high school as teacher. From all accounts, Mr. Dales has secured a prize with which to adorn his home by the sea.

I am not related to these individuals. This is posted in hopes that the information will be of assistance to others in their genealogical research.
