John Dallmann in Nicollet County

Surnames: DALLMANN SWANS
I descended from Ferdinand Dallmann (1843-1931). He came to the US in 1866 with wife Wilhelmina and his brothers Albert and Frederick.
He also had, I think but have not yet proved, brothers August and Johann. August arrived on 30 May 1868 on the ship Carl. He and his family were among just under 500 people who arrived in New York from Bremen. Carl and Johanna Dallmann and family was also on the manifest, with Marie (who was much older than August and Carl) listed between the families. With the families listed together like this it generally meant they were travelling together, so they were all probably closely related.
Johann arrived in the US on ship Ocean on 11 June 1862 from Hamburg. There were just 131 people listed on the passenger manifest so it must have been a pretty small ship. 29 of them were listed with Minnesota
as their destination. This designation of a destination generally meant that they had a package deal that covered the whole trip. The ship left Hamburg on April 16.
I need to look at the other Ocean passengers to see if they wound up in Nicollet County, or some other part of Minnesota. No other Dallmanns were on the ship.
What is interesting is what follows his arrival.
On 21 August 1862, in St. Peter, Johann enlists as a private in Company K, 7th Minnesota Infantry Regiment, for 3 years. The enlistment contract shows him as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with gray eyes and light hair. He was 24 years old. He signed his name as Johann Dallmann but whoever filled in the rest has him as Johan Dahlmann.
The muster roll does not indicate his rate of pay but does show he got a $2 premium and a bounty of $25.
I found a couple of regimental history summaries. In the fall of 1862 they were chasing the Sioux around southern Minnesota following their uprising in response to their poor treatment. In the winter of 1862 they wintered at Mankato guarding the Sioux prisoners of which 38 were
eventually hanged.
In the fall of 1863 the regiment went to St. Louis where it performed guard duty. In June 1864 it was sent to Memphis. From there it participated in campaigns through Mississippi, and in Tennessee.
John Dallmann was wounded in the left hip. One record (dated 11 Jan. 1865) shows he was wounded at Nashville on 15 Dec 1864. His discharge record shows he was wounded at Tupelo Mississippi on July 13, 1864. The Nashville record is probably more accurate.
He was discharged from the army on 30 June 1865 from the army hospital at Prairie de Chein, Wisconsin, with a 1/4th degree of disability.
On one hosital record it shows his nearest relative as "Charles Dallmann" of "Statin, Prussia" [it is actually the province of Stettin, Prussia]. Another hospital's record shows nearest relative as what looks like "J Swans, Friend" with no address listed.
The rest of his relatives started arriving in Nicollet County in 1866, settling in Nicollet Township.
