My name is Christine Dallman. I am granddaughter to Owen Dallman. My dad, Jimmie, is one of five of Owen and Loyal Dallman's children, of which he is the only boy.

I remember family reunions on Camano Island, WA, where my dad was raised, and Bernie and Eva Dallman also had a farm. There is a Dallman Road on the south end of the island that Bernie and Owen built together.

The story of Owen's twin sister, who died at age two (I believe), after swallowing a bullet shell casing, and the metal (lead or brass?) poisoning her to death.

I don't know what information I might know that would be of help to you, but I'd be happy to oblige as I am able.

I was previously married to a half brother of Ladonna's; [our three children were born in Mankato] have a lot of Jennings genealogy, would be happy to share.
You may email directly to lostrich@gmail.com
Lori

My name is Allen Martin Dallmann. Albert was my great grandfather. My great grandmother was Maria nee Sorheim. Martin was my grandfather. He was born Nov.14, 1903. John was the last living child of Albert and Regina. Albert and Maria had 3 children that I know of. Martin, Oletta, and another great aunt of mine whose name I can't recall. Maria is buried in Little Falls, Mn. Albert was only married twice.I don't know the date of his 2nd marriage. I hope this has helped to fill in a blank for you. Feel free to pick my brain. There's more knowledge in there, but I'd have to think about it.

I have been doing a little research on this family for a cousin of mine. The 1920 census of Mountain Home, Elmore County, Idaho has the family of William Dallman, 46, with wife Flora (she was Flora Desjardins) and their children Bernard, Cecil, Mae, Owen, Leona, Leon, Elizabeth, and Flora, including a married daughter Florence with husband George Schaver. The LDS Family Search site lists this family and includes a twin to Owen, named Odell Rose, who died in infancy. It omits Elizabeth.

William and Flora were living in Gooding, Idaho in 1930 with children Owen R., Leon J., Leona J. (they were twins), Elizabeth, and Flora W. All these children were born in Montana.

I'm fairly sure that Leona J. Dallman was the one who married my cousin's grandfather, Lewis T. Brooks. They lived in Yakima County, Washington.

Does this help?

Dallmann's from Prussia

I am trying to find further information on my ancestors August and Albertina (Albrecht) Dallmann from "Reitzenhagen" Prussia. Their census info says they immigrated in 1872 although I find the first immigration ship with their names in 1883 from Hamburg to NY. They were the parents of my ggrandmother Bertha Albertina Dallmann b: June 1867 in Prussia, who came with her younger sister Emilie. She lists her origin as Berlin.
To date I have been unable to find any naturalization or religion info. Reitzenhagen was incorporated I think in 1940 into other towns and disappeared. They have been found moving around in Alberta CA, MI, and WI.
I am trying to find where they were really born, married, had their children, etc. Anyone out there related to this bunch or know how I can find this info? Any help greatly appreciated. Becky

Oh, and if you have a scanner, could you download the photo of our great grandparents to deadfred.com or ancientfaces.com? That way, Jill, Christy, Kati, and I could print out a copy of the photo. Or youcould e-mail the photo to me at emmbark@yahoo.com and I could send it on to the rest of the cousins. Until later, Melissa M. Since
Carl came over in 1883 I supose he could be about anywhere
during the first 3 years. Do you know, did their father
ever come to America?
Hi Mark,
There is a wealth of history about that time in the New Ulm and Nicollet area. When the Indian uprising began many fled to St. Peter or New Ulm. The Lange family were some of the first settlers in the area and they were saved because some of the Indians befriended them and warned them that there would be an uprising. (You are related to them through Elsie Zamzow, daughter of Karl & Amelia Dallmann Zamzow. Elsie married George Lange).
In New Ulm they burned most of the outlaying buildings down so that the Indians could not sneak up on them. There are bullet holes in some of the old buildings yet today from the uprising. The history from that time is very interesting and includes so many of our relatives.
I beleive the "Charles Dallmann" listed as closest relative at the hospital to be Johann's father as he would have still been in Stettin at the time.
By the way have you come accross Sigfried Dallmann on any documents? He is the only one that I can't fit into the relation.

Thanks Mark,
Fritz
Hi Mark,
I do have that census as well as the others that Siegfried shows up in. He is in the 1900's census but in Lynn, McLeod County, MN with his family. I haven't been able to source it but at times I felt he was another son of Carl Dallmann. The birth date would be about 1845 and that would seem about right to be one of the sons of Carl. The other thing is that in the 1910 census he is living right next to the Otto's and there were connections between these two families as well. So far though I haven't been able to prove it with any kind of record. He did come to U.S. in 1866 as well which is the same year some of the others came.
I'd like to get a death certificate to verify my hunch though.

I'll keep looking,
Fritz

Hi Mark,

Albert F. Dallmann was married twice. With his first
wife (Regina Huhla) they had 4 children but three died
very young. Henry was the only son that lived. Regina died
after having her daughter Christine who also died in infancy in 1897.
Abt 1902 Albert F. married Mary Sorheim who had also been married previously (husband unknown) and had a son, John, in her first marriage. Albert F. and Mary had three more children then. Martin F. Dallmann b. 11/14/1903 d. 12/4/1976 in Lucan, Redwood County, MN. Anna Dallmann b. abt 1906 d. unknown and Oletta Alma Dallmann b. 8/12/1911 d. 8/28/1969 in Oregon U.S.A.

I hope I helped you out.

Take care,
Fritz

Hi Mark,

To be honest I have little on Wilhelmina Blank. I guess I thought her father was Ferdinand Blank. I'm probably wrong on that though. The reason I thought that was from the 1865 Nicollet, Nicollet county, MN census. It shows a Ferdinand Blank family with Wilhelmine shown and then in the 1870 census Ferdinand Blank family is shown without Wilhelmine and by that time she is shown married to Ferdinand Dallmann. The Ferdinand Blank family in 1865 does show a number of children as well as the 1870 census in Nicollet. I'll have to check further on this.

Take care,
Fritz

Hi Mark,

I still haven't found Karl Zamzow in 1885 and have gone
through much of Nicollet County as well as some of Redwood
county. Oh well, not all that important I guess.
That web site you gave me was very helpful..thanks much.
What I found to be real strange though is that I knew Karl
Zamzow was married to Amelia Dallmann (This is my wife's
father's side of the family) but he was also married a
second time to Anna Thom... this is my wife's mothers side
of the family. Anna Thom is a sister of Herman Thom the great grandfather of my wife. I'm sure more info that you didn't need but I thought it was interesting to me to find that out through the web that you gave me. Thanks again.

Have a good un,
Fritz
Hi Mark,

I'm sorry about that, I meant Carl Zamzow's father.
I was wondering if he ever came to America. I did find
all the Zamzow family in Three Lakes MN. I actually grew
up in that area in Echo MN. Are you living in MN?
I went to school with an Engel that lived in Danube, MN
but not sure if that is the same family. At any rate it
is always fun to find distant relatives.. eh?

Have a great day,
Fritz
It also shows them as having arrived in the US in 1866.

You can find the passenger manifest through ancestry.com (with image). They are also listed in the indexes at castlegarden.com and aad.archives.gov (I think these 2 are basically the same).

Mark

Fritz,
I do a lot of road bicycling now, and enjoy the southern weather (except the hot and humid summers). I miss the long, straight country roads of southern Minnesota.

I have posted another query.

Mark

Albert F. and Regina DALLMANN in Nicollet County, MInnesota

There is a gravestone in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Nicollet Twp for Regina H. DALLMANN, 1864-1900.

Nicollet County death records (when I was there back in the mid-70s): (all are Nicollet Twp)
d. 13 Mar 1900 Regina HUHLE, born in South Carolina, age 34 years, 11 mon and 28 days. Father Conrad HUHLE, mother Frederick [no last name]
d. 7 Mar 1900 "stillborn" son
I have "A.F. DALLMANN" as husband/father.

Albert F. and Regina DALLMANN are also the parents of:
Mary E.B. DALLMANN, d. 9 Sep 1895, age 15 days
[not named] son DALLMANN, d. 12 Nov 1897, age 1 day
Christine DALLMANN, d. 8 Jan 1899, age 15 days.

All that to ask:
1. How many times was Albert Ferdinand DALLMANN married and to whom?

I don't have access to the county records, but my guess is he was married at least twice.
A. 1895 Minn Census has a DALLMANN Albert [age] 29, with DALLMANN Albert Mrs. [age] 29, and son DALLMANN Henry [age 2].
B. 1900 US Census (family 30) has Albert, son Henry (age 7) with Albert's sister Bertha (age 22).
C. 1905 Minn Census has Albert F., Maria (age 33, born in Norway), Henry (12), John (8), and Martin (1-6/12). Maria and John had been members of the census district for 3 years. That would put marriage 1902 to about mid-1903?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Mark Winter

Thanks Fritz.

Have you run across Siefried Dallmann? I have picked him up in the 1870 Nicollet Twp census and an 1884 homestead certificate.

Thanks,
Mark

John Dallmann in Nicollet County

I descended from Ferdinand Dallmann (1843-1931). He came to the US in 1866 with wife Wilhelmina and his brothers Albert and Frederick.

He also had, I think but have not yet proved, brothers August and Johann. August arrived on 30 May 1868 on the ship Carl. He and his family were among just under 500 people who arrived in New York from Bremen. Carl and Johanna Dallmann and family was also on the manifest, with Marie (who was much older than August and Carl) listed between the families. With the families listed together like this it generally meant they were travelling together, so they were all probably closely related.

Johann arrived in the US on ship Ocean on 11 June 1862 from Hamburg. There were just 131 people listed on the passenger manifest so it must have been a pretty small ship. 29 of them were listed with Minnesota
as their destination. This designation of a destination generally meant that they had a package deal that covered the whole trip. The ship left Hamburg on April 16.

I need to look at the other Ocean passengers to see if they wound up in Nicollet County, or some other part of Minnesota. No other Dallmanns were on the ship.

What is interesting is what follows his arrival.

On 21 August 1862, in St. Peter, Johann enlists as a private in Company K, 7th Minnesota Infantry Regiment, for 3 years. The enlistment contract shows him as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with gray eyes and light hair. He was 24 years old. He signed his name as Johann Dallmann but whoever filled in the rest has him as Johan Dahlmann.

The muster roll does not indicate his rate of pay but does show he got a $2 premium and a bounty of $25.

I found a couple of regimental history summaries. In the fall of 1862 they were chasing the Sioux around southern Minnesota following their uprising in response to their poor treatment. In the winter of 1862 they wintered at Mankato guarding the Sioux prisoners of which 38 were
eventually hanged.

In the fall of 1863 the regiment went to St. Louis where it performed guard duty. In June 1864 it was sent to Memphis. From there it participated in campaigns through Mississippi, and in Tennessee.

John Dallmann was wounded in the left hip. One record (dated 11 Jan. 1865) shows he was wounded at Nashville on 15 Dec 1864. His discharge record shows he was wounded at Tupelo Mississippi on July 13, 1864. The Nashville record is probably more accurate.

He was discharged from the army on 30 June 1865 from the army hospital at Prairie de Chein, Wisconsin, with a 1/4th degree of disability.

On one hosital record it shows his nearest relative as "Charles Dallmann" of "Statin, Prussia" [it is actually the province of Stettin, Prussia]. Another hospital's record shows nearest relative as what looks like "J Swans, Friend" with no address listed.

The rest of his relatives started arriving in Nicollet County in 1866, settling in Nicollet Township.
I am also trying to find some information on Dallman's in Wisconsin. I only have one name:
Katherine Dallman, born May 17, 1859 (Germany/Poland) - died Jan 1, 1948 - Portage County, WS.
She married Joseph Wanta, Jr. b. 1857 - d. 1937. They had many children but will not list at this time.

Yes, I would love to read over your family history and see if I can connect on something.
Our Dallman's lived mostly in the Stephens Point area.
I even ordered her death certificate, but the informant (a son) knew nothing about her at all. So disappointing.
She was called "Kate" by her family. Her incredible blue eyes have come down thru the generations to my husband, daughter and a grandchild.
email: njts59@cox.net
Thank you!
