I am just finding your inquiry...years later.
Regarding Nicolella, my father's father was Anthony (Tony) Nicolella, born in Bellesguardo, (near Eboli and Naples, Italy). He had 5 brothers and 1 sister. Aunt Rosina is still alive at age 103 in the same village she was born. Grandpa Nicolella died (I can't recall what year he died. I'd have to call Dad)...All the Nicolella brothers resided in Washington, Penna. - 36 miles SW of Pittsburgh and worked for the railroad. Grandpa Nicolella's 2 brothers, Michael and Joseph (Guiseppi) also died in their late 70's. Grandpa Nicolella married Nicolena Machriarolli (spelling?) and Grandma Nicolena died in 1999 or so at the age of 92.
Do you know the town in Italy where your relative was born? That helps tremdously, then you can write to the Vital Statistics Office of the town or region.
For instance Grandma Chicone (Mom's mother) was born in Bovino, Italy. We can write to www@Bovino.com
-- but write in Italian, they don't speak English. You can google Italian translation to get your letter translated from English to Italian.
If you find the town in Italy, Google that town to find the email or mailing address of that Vital Statistics office.
You can also try going through Ellis Island if you know what year they arrived at the port of New York City. You can email Ellis Island and get a copy of their boat's passenger list.
Hope this helps.
Keep in touch.
