Kathy, Thanks for asking!
The best way is to get DNA testing for any male Dalrymple in your family. To join the Dalrymple DNA group, it must be a male who was born as a "Dalrymple." Male Dalrymples purchase Y-DNA at Family Tree DNA. Here is the link: www.familytreedna.com

Best choice is the 37 Y-DNA markers. If you want to go the whole way - choose the 67 Y-DNA markers. This is quick and easy. The site can also answer any questions you might have. This is private testing and strictly addresses genealogical testing - NOT medical!

If I can help further, just let me know. Carolyn Achata monitors the Dalrymple DNA group. I hope you have a male who can participate!
Best wishes!
Leslie
I have an Arthur Dalrymple, b. 18 Jul 1902, married to an Annie May Thompson, b. 05 Sep 1917. I have Arthur's parents as William Frederick Dalrymple. b. 15 Nov 1870, in Hants County, NS. & Louise Blanche Horne, b. 08 Dec 1883, also in Hants County, NS. From my records, Arthur connects back to James Dalrymple. He is as far as I have gotten in this search. Hopes this helps.I also connect back to James. Your ancestor that connects to James is Jacob. ~ Linda

I have studied the lineage of the Dalrymples of Stair and to answer your question about your wife's lineage, the answer is NO!!
There are a lot of family legends as well as genealogy data at LDS that is wrong. No Dalrymple of Stair ever settled in North America.

HOWEVER - if you are a Dalrymple with Cuban ancestry you could be connected to the Stair lineage! - but no sense in going in that direction unless you have a Cuban ancestor.

Who is your wife's grandfather or great grandfather ? I have A lot of info on the different Dalrymple families in Canada and USA. Maybe I can help.
Regards, Don Dalrymple
The basic test which I recommend is the 37 marker ydna test. You are a male, I hope?? It follows the male line back. Cost is about $150, unless you get a special offer. That happens a couple of times a year and they offer it for $119. That ended in early January though.
Go to: dalrympledna.com to get the purpose of the study. It will direct you to the main website where you can order a kit. It is a simple procedure - a couple of wooden paddle scrapes on the inside of the cheek. No blood.
If I can help you at all, write to me at: cachata@gmail.com. I am a Dalrymple descendent too and know quite a bit about the family history.
Would love to have you join the study.
Regards, Carolyn

Am interested in your Dalrymple family. Am wondering if they may in some way be related to mine. I do not have my Dalrymple file on hand at the moment, but here is what I know from memory:

My great grandmother was Nancy "Annie" Allen Dalrymple. She married Daniel B. Hallman. Nancy's parents were John C. and Nancy MacKenzie. They were both from Nine Mile, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Nancy had several sibs. One of her sisters was Malinda. One of her brothers was Caleb. It is my understanding that Caleb went on out to California, but that is not fact. Nancy had another sister who was married and had gone out to California, in the late 1920's and 1930's.

My great grandmother, Nancy "Annie" Allen Dalrymple, married Daniel B. Hallman. They lived in Chelsea, MA before Daniel died in the early 1900's. Nancy was left to raise her children alone. Her two sons, she sent to The Boston Trade School, on Thompson Island, out in the Boston Harbor. Agnes, her youngest daughter, also my grandmother, stayed in Chelsea and later married my grandfather, Herbert Tilley. Catherine married Arthur Frances Brosseau. Does anyone happen to have this family in their records?

Would love to learn what happened to Nancy's family after Agnes died in 1931.

Sincerest Thanks,
Linda

re: "when you shall know that he (Daniel Dalrymple) lost an estate of 1500 1.(pounds) per annual, by his uncle Colonel Dalrymple's attachment to the fallen house of Stuart, in the year 1745."

Was this at the siege of Dalrymple Castle, Scotland, 1745 ?
........................
A connection to this Stuart family may be found in America in :
ANNALS OF AUGUSTA COUNTY. 117
"We have quoted Colonel John Stuart, of Greenbrier, and a
brief notice of him and his connections is appropriate here.
Among the partisans of the house of Stuart in 1745, was a John Paul (born in Ireland?), who was killed at the siege of Dalrymple castle. He left a widow, niece of Colonel John Lewis's wife, and three children —
John, who became a R.C. priest and died in Maryland ;
Audley, who was active and prominent in the Indian wars
in West Virginia, and Polly, who married George Mathews, of
Staunton.

When Governor Dinwiddie (als Dunwiddie ?) came to Virginia in 1752 he was accompanied by his intimate friend, John Stuart, the elder, who had previously, it is presumed, married the widow of John Paul. His children were John Stuart, known first as Captain and afterwards as Colonel Stuart, of Greenbrier, and Betsy, wife of Colonel Richard Woods, of Albemarle. John Stuart, the younger, married the second daughter of Thomas Lewis, the surveyor, and was the father of two sons — Lewis Stuart, of Greenbrier, and Charles A. Stuart, who for some years lived in Augusta, but spent most of his life in Greenbrier, where he died."

I find this information very interesting as I would have bet he was one of the Georges from Antrim in Northern Ireland ! Is there any way there could be an error ? How sure are you of the source if I may ask ?
Do you know if the DNA project is still going on . My mother who is 97 is from the Joseph Dalrymple family of N.J. and then Knox County Ohio. If you need a male sample ,would it be helpful for me to participate as her son?
Thank you
Jan

Dalrymple - Tucker

Hello, I am searching for the children of John Tucker b. 1693 in MD and Jeannette Darlrymple b. 1693 (probably MD). I have found 3 children listed as John, James and Dalrymple and maybe even a Thomas but the Thomas was born in NC in 1757, so I don't think this info is right as I think they both died in MD and they would have had to be in their 60's to have had a child in 1757, perhaps he is a grandson. This Thomas Tucker served in the Rev. War and ended up in Indiana.

Thank you,
Joey

I have just read your note re James Washington Dalrymple of Cuba. Have you any guesses of from where his ancestor lived before leaving for Cuba. I think he might well have been born an Irishman in Dublin ? This was the Will of Thomas Dalrymple of the city of Dublin, Gent. "To be buried in Drumcondra where my dear father, mother & children are deposited". (to clarify - those that had died before him. Silver chased Tobacco Box and tipped stopper with my Arms & Crest thereon. My son Thomas, my daughter Jane (both by Rebecca, my wife. CODICIL 14 Nov 1779 Within these few months my son Thomas Dalrymple having died. To son Daniel Dalrymple (to clarify Daniel was from his first marriage & lived in Burton on Trent, whilst Thomas was from his second marriage)my large two handled silver cup with my arms thereon, my sword & chased watch with my picture in mimniature in a shagreen case etc. Daniel's coat of Arms, the Stair Arms, are over the school of "Barrow on Trent School" as is his cousin's Elizabeth Sale who provided the money for it to be founded in her Will and the arms of Des Voeux.

The College of Heralds has recorded in the pedigree of Sir Frederick Henry Arthur Des Voeux bart the following "Henry (Rev) Des Voeux, born 1786, married 1st Frances Dalrymple, only daug & heir of Daniel Dalrymple, of Barrow, co Derby (clarify this is Barrow on Trent)a descendant of the family of Stair, etc etc petersale@talktalk.net

Hello. Are you still collecting DNA? My husband is part of the Dalrymple line from New Jersey (James Dalrymple father of John Wesley Dalrymple). I think he would be interested.

Shannon
