My great great grandmother, Sarah Ann Brown was born around 1830 and died in early 1900. She is the daughter of Joseph Brown. Sarah married John Hedden. their daughter is Nancy Hedden Allen, my great grandmother. My grandmother is Oma Lee Allen Berrong.
This is the story my grandmother told:
"When I was a little girl my grandmother (Sarah Brown) died in our family's cabin. The Indians (Cherokees) came on horseback and got my grandmother's body and put it on a travois and took her to the "Mountain of Many Faces" (Snowbird?)."
I have so many questions. Why did the Cherokees come and get her? Who was Sarah Brown and who was Joseph Brown?
Now, here is the reason I am writing this in the Dalton Family section. I have heard the story told by others that "on the the way (to wherever they were taking the body) they stopped at THE DALTON FARM and camped for the night.
Does anything sound familiar to anyone.? I would love to hear form any Dalton researcher working on or with knowledge of Polk County or Cherokee County history.
Thanks for ANYTHING.
