Dalton's of Virginia

My Dalton clan is from Virginia. My grandfather was Abe Estes (Ester) Dalton married Sue Eliza Haley, His father was John Stadler Dalton, and his father was James Dalton who married Mary Jane Eanes. I haven't been able to find his true parents. James was born Feb. 7, 1813 in Pittsylvania Co. Virginia and died in Patrick Co. Va. I found reference to a Robert and Tabitha Dalton married April 24, 1806 in a journal written by Winston Dalton of Pittsylvania Co. Va. Does anyone know if this is correct or who his parents may have been?

I've posted this information before but I found in the family tree database of ancestry.com a tree that included my great great grandparents Richard and Catherine Dalton both born in Ireland but spending much of their lives in Poultney VT. Unfortunately, so far I have not been able to contact the person who posted the list--Nelson Family Tree as they have not registered to be contacted as of yet. If this person happens to see this please contact me via my email address. I have a information on the early Daltons and would like to know what happened to some of my grandfather's aunts, uncles and cousins. I also have one old picture of Richard, Catherine, Catherine's mother Mary Doyle, Aunt Margaret, perhaps Jack or William and my great grandmother Mary Dalton Hogan and her husband Richard T. Hogan that you might like to see.

Margo
Looking for kin of one Frank Dalton that lived in Bell or HArlan counties around 1922. My father is Cecil Dalton, born TO elsie Carie Taylor--illegitimate son of Frank Dalton. This Frank Dalton knew one of my fathers Uncles--John Morgan Taylor--aka Morgan Taylor from the Bell /Harlan region. Frank Dalton found out that a child had been concieved, but when he went to find out about Elsie and child, he was told by Elsie's youjnger sister Leo Taylor the baby had died.My dad is now soon to be 86 years old.I know his faher is not alive, but I am in hopes that somewhere it may have been mentioned that he did have a son that he thought had died at birth.I know this is a hard one for anyone to help on. But is my mission to find the links before my father passes away. You can email me thru here, or directly at greeneyedlady19582000@yahoo.com.I am assuming since my dad's mm Elsie was born in 1898 that Frank may have been born about that Time or a few years before that.I do not knw if Frank is his first or mid name, I know many folk in that era went by their middle name. This is part is only 1 of the 2 people I am tracking down in my family tree.I have also ordered the DNA tesing kit for Daltons and I am signed up on the DNA site for it as well. Will be getting the samples from my dad this weekend to send off then will have the results posted. Thanks in advance for any help--I know it is a tough one....

Ball M Dalton, Clayton Co., Iowa, 1895 Census

While searching for our Iowa Daltons, I found a probable error in a listing for Ball M. Dalton. We are not related to him that I know of, but someone may be searching!

The data gives his township as "Strausberry Paint ??." For those researchers not from Iowa, I'd like to suggest that this township is probably Strawberry Point. It's in Clayton County, close to the locks on the Mississippi River. Across the river lies Prairie Du Chien, Wisc.

I've submitted this to the Ancestry staff, but they say it may take a while to research and correct. The page link is :

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gsfn=Ball+M&g...

I'm looking for information on the family of ADA MAE DALTON. She was my great grandmother. Born in Mississippi around Tupelo, moved to Missouri, and eloped to Texas with John Wilkinson and then moved back to Western Oklahoma probably around the earlier 1900's. She's buried at Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma in Caddo Co. She was born 4-2-1887 and died 9-3-1967. From what I understand she was a 1st cousin to the Dalton Gang, but I don't know how that all falls into place. She had two brothers, Will Dalton and Henry Dalton. Henry I believe spent some time in Prison. She also had a sister, Nora Dalton. Nora married a man named Walter Story. If anyone has ANY information that would help me, even if it's just a little, I would greatly appreciat it. Please e-mail me at cami@michaeldouglascpa.com. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!

Clan Dalton Sends Beltane Wishes

Clan Dalton would like to extend warm wishes to all on this 1st of May! The Celts, from whom we Daltons descend, split the year into two seasons - Summer and Winter. Samhain (our Halloween) signaled Winter and Beltane (our May Day) the beginning of Summer. There were Celtic celebrations around the globe! Thousands gathered in Edinburgh, Scotland last evening to welcome the change in seasons with bonfires, fireworks and music. For those of us in the northern hemisphere, it's good-bye winter doldrums and hello to a world of beautiful boughs and blossoms!

Clan Dalton is a global, not for profit organization that seeks to preserve our Gaelic culture and heritage through education and scientific endeavors. Our members are participating in an ongoing Y-DNA genetic genealogy project and have connected their Dalton line across three continents! Family Tree DNA is our partner http://www.familytreedna.com/public/ClanDalton/

Please stop by and visit us at http://ClanDalton.com/Index.htm to learn more. Clan Dalton is having a Gathering the 25th, 26th and 27th of July 2008 in Thurles, County Tipperary and you are all invited to attend. Our charity is Cystic Fibrosis and, whether you can join us or not, we'd like you to give generously! We're raffling off a signed, framed print of the thatched cottage in County Galway from the 1952 John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara movie "The Quiet Man" - a lovely addition to any room. All the details are on the new website.

Warm regards,

K.T.
Eligah Dalton's wife Emeline Holland?

Hi Dalton's,

A few years ago William Crouch connected me to my Grainger Co., Tennessee Dalton family. Before then we only knew my great grandfather's name, that he was born in Grainger Co., TN -- and we knew the probable names of his parents Eligah Dalton and Emeline Collins or Emeline Holland. My grandmother had always written the tree out that Eligah married Emeline Collins.

William Crouch and others I think have Emeline Holland as his wife. To this date I've not been able to find anything to help to determine if Holland is truly her surname or not???

There are no Holland families in Grainger Co, TN on the 1870 US Federal Census. I only found an Emeline Holland on the 1850 US Federal Census with parents. There don't seem to be any Emeline Collins's that match up either. Emeline and Eligah Dalton married in 1876.

Unknown if Holland is the correct surname/family???
Descendants of Elisha Holland

Generation No. 1

1. ELISHA1 HOLLAND1 was born Abt. 1815 in , , Tennessee . He married ELIZA X in , , Tennessee .
My grandfather was a neighbor of Bill Dalton when he and his bros farmed and frolicked in San Luis Obispo County, California. I have done quite a bit of research on them during this period and would be willing to share some of it with serious researchers.

I need to say that it appears as if Bill was not the evil person often portrayed.

Malcolm Clay Dalton (1922 - 1943) Serial Number 36264953

Staff Sgt. Malcolm Clay Dalton was the Left Waist Gunner aboard the "Ole Kickapoo" in the Ploesti Raid on 1 Aug 1943. The B-24 piloted by Lloyd "Pete" Herbert Hughes accurately dropped its bombs on target, but the plane was already in trouble. Hughes tried to land in a dry riverbed, but the plane crashed and burned. Four of the ten-man crew survived the crash, but two soon died of their wounds. Dalton died in the crash on 1 Aug 1943 near Campina, Romania, north of Ploesti, Romania. Dalton received the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart from the U.S. Army Air Forces for his service to his country. According to Dalton’s enlistment record, he was born in 1922 (18 Mar 1922) in Wisconsin and enlisted on 10 Sep 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He gave as his Civil Occupation "Highway Maintenance Man." He was single, without dependents, was 68 inches tall and weighed 169 pounds. He is buried in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Lincoln County, Nebraska. If anyone has information on Malcolm Clay Dalton, I would like to hear more about him.

I suppose as with everyone else, my grandmother always told me we were descendants of the Dalton Gang. How? Who knows. I do know that my grandma's name is Martha Elizabeth Dalton and her father was Emmitt Dalton and he was a blind preacher. She was born and raised in Thorn Hill, TN. I suppose that's where he had always lived, but I know he traveled around selling his brooms that he made and preaching about God. Any info would be great. Oh, he had a younger brother named Perry that was crippled and killed himself over a married woman when he was 26. Thanks again.

Abram & Mary Dalton of Chippewa county, Michigan in 1892

September 17, 1892 Page 1
A Strange Killing.
Mrs. Dalton Shoots James Wice Dead at Her Doorway

Saturday Night.
Another killing affray was added to Chippewa county's annals of tragedies shortly after 8 o'clock last Saturday evening, when Mrs. Mary Dalton shot down James Wice, at the door of her home, in the western part of the city. Wice was shot in the left eye, with a revolver bullet, the ball passing clear through the head, causing instant death.

One story runs about as follows: James Wice, a hard working man who lived with his wife at Raber and who was employed in the mill of Feltus & Treadwell, came to this city on the Faxton last Saturday evening in search of a woman to accompany him home to take care of his sick wife.

Mrs. Harriet McIntyre was recommended and he started out to find her. Shortly after 7 o'clock he called at M. Reidy's grocery store, corner Magazine and Spruce Sts. and asked Mr. Reidy to direct him to Mrs. McIntyre's house, which is located in that part of the city. He was shown the way, but the night was very dark and a dreary rain was falling at the time Wice made a mistake and knocked at the door of the Dalton house, and was shot by Mrs. Dalton.

This occurred about 8 o'clock, Abram Dalton, the husband, said to The News that he was down town at the time and returned home shortly before 9 o'clock. He was told by his wife that she had shot at some one three times, but did not know whether she hit him or not. Dalton said he than retired, and did not see the dead man until 6 o'clock Sunday morning.

At 7 o'clock Sunday morning Dalton went to the home of Officer David Ellis and informed him of the affair, and requested Mr. Ellis to remove the body, as he did not care to have it so close to his house. The dead body laid with upturned face and outstretched arms all night long and until almost noon next day in a torrent of rain when, by order of Coroner Bacon, it was removed to Blake's morgue.

Mrs. Dalton was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Lessard. She was taken before Justice Warner Wednesday morning,.... The murdered man was 30 years of age, and is said to have been a quiet, sober and industrious man. He married a daughter of Andrew J. Smith two years ago, who with one child, survives him.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Newspaper Birth, Marriage and Death Notices." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewjmartin/deat1887...

I am looking for my great-aunt who was born in May, 1897, in Delaware. She may also have been listed as born in Maryland. Her name was Annie aka Anna Chandler. She is known to have married a Dalton whom she presumably met in Scotland while he was on a tour with the US Navy. This would have occurred during the 1920's or 30's. The story continues that they came back to the States and while she was in New York City awaiting a ship (guess she was quite the traveler) she died. No children that I am aware of. She is a mystery woman in our family and I would love to solve at least part of the mystery. Does anyone have such a lady in their family tree?

Clan Dalton Announcement

Clan Dalton is grateful for all the support the Dalton Community has extended to us during 2007. Our unadvertised, amateur website averages one hundred fifty hits a month! Not everyone who stops by becomes a member, but the majority of you do join Clan Dalton. Céad Míle Fáilte!

Clan Dalton is a not for profit organization, whose membership is free. We are registered with the Clans of Ireland, Ltd. http://theclansofireland.ie/ and have renewed for 2008. Join with us in fellowship, as we celebrate and preserve our Irish heritage. Become a member, get on the mailing list and have some good family craic (enjoyment) with us in Ireland this July!

Clan Dalton invites you to our Annual General Meeting and Clan Gathering on July 25th, 26th & 27th 2008 - please save the dates! The event will be held at the Anner Hotel in Thurles, County Tipperary. The Anner http://www.annerhotel.ie/index.htm is well appointed and all rooms are en suite with modern amenities. Our group rates are 70 Euro per person, double occupancy and include the use of the Spa. Thurles is conveniently located on the main (N8) road and is only 90 minutes by car from Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports. There are over eight trains daily from Dublin.

Clan Dalton offers an engaging program that will include tours of Holy Cross Abbey and the Rock of Cashel. Banquets on both Friday and Saturday evening will be followed by traditional Irish music. Some of our Clan Dalton Officers will participate in the sessions! Mailers will go out soon and info will be posted on the new website. For additional information contact Clan Dalton at ClanDalton@comcast.net

Clan Dalton is upgrading our look, as we enter the New Year. We are having a professional website designed and should be at our new domain mid January. Our Y-DNA Project is also expanding with our membership showing great interest. Speaking of which, our latest members are Louis Dolton of Topeka, KS, (Walter) Patrick Dalton of St. Johns, Newfoundland, and John D'Alton of Eltham, Australia. Louis is the Project Administrator of the Dalton America Y-DNA Project, which is our oldest Dalton DNA Project.

Whether dealing with Dalton America or Clan Dalton, regarding DNA, you'll find we both offer supporting documentation on your pedigree that works together with your DNA. Say you have the DNA of the descendant of the Dalton Gang, but there is no pedigree. What good is it? Where is the proof? You cannot have one without the other.

It's imperative, because they go hand in hand. We've been at this since 2003 and provide the best genetic genealogy! We are separate entities, but cooperate on a professional level. We will continue to do so for the betterment of the Dalton community.

Thank you, again, for all your support throughout the year. We, at Clan Dalton, would like to express our heartfelt wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Nollaig Shona agus Ath Bhliain faoi mhaise duit!

Slainte,
K.T. By 1850 they were in Schuylkill Co Penna. Most were coal miners. Do not know who Marys husband was. Mary was born about 1790-1800. Has anyone done any research on these people? Will trade all information I have. THANKS FOR ANY RESPONCES.

Dalton Gang ?????

My great-grandfather James Madison Tyson and a sister(not sure of her name) were raised by some of the Dalton Gang family members after his mother died during child birth on the boat to the U.S. and their father didn't want to care for them. I am trying to trace who raised them, it was possibly a sister or aunt because they were around the gang at times. I have a picture titled: Dalton/Jackson/Tyson Family from about 1915 after James was grown and married, thought someone might have some pictures or know someone who does that could compare my picture and maybe tell who they are? I appreciate any help you can give me.
Leslie

Brig. General James L. Dalton II WWII South Pacific

Hello,

Can anyone responding please write to me at francesca@starstreamcable.com? I am trying to find the family members of James L. Dalton II from CT or VT. he was the commander of the 161st Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific and was KIA in the Philippines in 1945 during the Battle for Balete Pass, which was later named Dalton Pass in his honor. The 161st was attached to the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning. My Great Uncle was under his command and fighting on Luzon with him. I am hoping that the family might have some information about the 161st that they would be willing to share with me. I am compiling a history of my Uncle Angelo's time in WWII and am trying to get background on important figures in the 161st. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Francesca

Victoria Dalton and brother Richard Dalton.... mother was Elizabeth (Gordon) Dalton....

Re: Victoria Dalton and brother Richard Dalton.... mother was Elizabeth (Gordon) Dalton....

I'm Looking for descendants of Nash-Gordon family from Mississippi and believe Maude (Nash) Gordon had three grandchildren who are still living (including Victoria and Richard Dalton) .... and I'd like to share family history info.

Maude (Nash) Gordon, born in Mississippi in mid-1880s, was my grandfather's cousin. I inherited a number of old family photos and letters from him..... including photos of Maude, photos of her father William W. Nash, photos of her grand-parents Charles and Eliza Booth Nash, and photos of both sets of Maude's great-grandparents.

I know that Maude Nash married Enoch P. Gordon in Mississippi around 1901 and that they moved to Texas.... Maude returning to Mississippi with their two children in the 1910s after husband Enoch Gordon died. Maude's children were Edward Preston Gordon born around 1909 and Elizabeth A. Gordon whose nickname was "Sue".

Maude and her two children later moved to Los Angelos, Ca by the 1930s (and remarried to a Mr. Levington)... Maude's father William W. Nash later moved there as well where he died in his 80s in the early 1950s.

Maude (Nash) Gordon, aka Maude Levington, died in the mid-1960s... she had three grandchildren... I believe their names were Sue Gordon, Victoria Dalton and Richard Dalton. Maude's daughter Elizabeth (Gordon) Dalton was a cartoonist or illustator and was the mother of Victoria Dalton and Richard Dalton.

One of Maude's grandaughters may have married a Mr. Roulieu.... but am not sure.

Anyone connected, please e-mail me at: Lenrein2@yahoo.com

Lenrein2@yahoo.com

Does anyone know where to find William Albert DALTON (b. 1886), son of Francis Greenberry Dalton and Clara Whitfill in the early 1900s?

I am tring to rule him in or out as a candidate for William Albert Dalton (b. 1885 or 6) in Louisville, KY, who was the husband of Amanda V. (b. 1891) as noted in the 1910 census. He worked as a machine hand for an organ manufacturer. They lived with Amanda's mother, Letitia Simms (alt. Simas, Simmas, Sinnas) who was a dressmaker and seamstress by trade. He died sometime between 1920 and 1930.

Any information about either is appreciated.
Ellis Island Passenger Records

Clan Dalton is proud to present these passenger records for your family research. This is a partial upload of an index I created in 2001. The balance will be provided this week. Our Clan Dalton Archives also have Castle Garden passenger records, which were indexed in 2005. These two indexes cover close to a hundred years of New York arrivals from 1830 through 1924.

Daltons arriving from England, Scotland, Ireland, Cuba, the West Indies and those traveling back and forth from the U.S. to their homelands are documented. I have transcribed them as they appeared in the original records. The source of each index is listed, so you may obtain further information.

Clan Dalton http://home.comcast.net/~clandalton/wsb/html/view.cgi-home.h...

NOTICE TO DALTON SOCIETIES, ETC: Reprinting or reproducing my copyrighted Dalton data, without my written permission, must cease and desist. Contact information, for written application, is located on the above Clan Dalton website.

Dalton-Gordon family of LosAngelos, CA..... Edward P. Gordon and sister Elizabeth A. Gordon-Dalton....

Dalton-Gordon family of Los Angelos, California.....

Re: "Sue" Gordon, Elizabeth A. Gordon, Edward P. Gordon,
their mother Maude (Nash) Gordon (aka Maude Levington).

Elizabeth A. Gordon-Dalton and her brother Edward P. Gordon were both born around 1909-1913 ineather Mississippi or Texas. They were the children of Maude A. (Nash) and Enoch P. Gordon of mississippi who moved to Texas.

I know that their father Enoch Gordon died in Texas when the children were young and that their mother Maude (Nash) Gordon moved the family back to Mississippi in the late 1910s (they lived with her parents Wm W. and Lizzie Nash of Water Valley, MS.

Probably by 1930, Maude had moved with children to California where her maternal uncle had moved some 20 years earlier.... and she married second husband Mr. (Bill?) Levington by 1939 or so.

I believe that Maude (Nash) Gordon's son Edward P. Gordon married and had a daughter named Sue.... and that Maude's daughter Elizabeth (nick-name "Sue") married a Mr. Dalton.... both were artist-cartoonists.... they had at least one son and one daughter born in the early 1950s probably.

My grandfather was Maude (Nash) Gordon's cousin and quite a family historian; I have a great deal of family history info and many old photos dating from the 1850s to the 1950s .... including a photo of Maude Nash-Gordon with her father William Walter Nash (taken in the 1940s), a photo of William Walter Nash as a boy with his parents (taken around 1870), plus several other photos of Maude's grandparents Charles and Eliza (Booth) Nash, paternal great-grandparents Ira and Lucy Nash of Neshoba County, Mississippi (photos taken in the 1850s to 1860s) and maternal great-grandparents J. Booth and wife (taken in the 1850s).

I'd be glad to sharre scans of the photos I have and am hoping some other photos have been passed down in Maude Nash-gordon's line.

Anyone descended from this family please e-mail me at: Lenrein2@yahoo.com.

Sincerely, Len R.
