Hi, I don't know if I can get you on that board or not. It isn't really a board- more like a study group. I will have to look at the study or ask the group monitoring it. It started this way. I asked my brother to do the National Geographic Genographic test. They do not do matching of people but use the information for their world wide genographic program. You can read it at nationalgeographic.com and look for the Genographic Project. It did cost about 100.00 for the DNA test and is very simple to do. I don't know if NG is working with Family Tree DNA but they contacted me as a result of the DNA testing. It is a private company that does DNA testing and matching. I received an email from Family Tree DNA asking if I wanted the NG DNA results from my brother put in an Ireland DNA study group run by their company. They are trying to build genealogy connections. It didn't cost anything so I said sure. I guess the added DNA results adds to their data bank making it more attractive to others who might want to order a test and join the group. I get emails a couple of times a month or so giving me information on people who have matched 12 markers exactly. They make the declaration that with 12 markers and the last names not the same, that the relationship probably occured before family names were given. So, it is at least a 40 generation gap. They do not push or suggest that more tests be run on the DNA, but more tests can make a closer match.
Since it is a for-profit company, I think that more testing at a price would be their ultimate goal but as I said, they don't do a sell of any kind.
Let me check into it and see what, if anything can be available to someone not in the study group. I am not trying to sound snobbish by using the word study group, but that is what they call it. Maybe it is actually public information. I will check and let you know. Meanwhile check out the NG Genographic site, very interesting. Pat
