My mother was Janet Daniels Dalziel daughter of Hugh Dalziel and Johnann Rae. She was born in Scotland and as far as I am aware, the history of the name was that it was originally Norman French and came to England with William the Conqueror.

Two of her brothers came to Australia and we have always pronounced the name "D'L".

I would be interested in any information you have on the name.
