Arthur d'Amboise and Elmire Cote from Vernor, Ontario, Canada

Hi all -

Arthur is the son of Jean Bergeron dit d'Amboise and Susanne Calhouette of Ils Verte Quebec. Paul, who married Philomene Malenfant, is actually named Napoleon (according to records I found) and is the brother of Arthur who is my great-grandfather. I'm looking for information on Arthur and Elmire's children (Eugene is my grandfather, Ernest, Marie and another daughter who married Cyprien Pilon whose name cannot be read on the marriage license). My mom talks a lot about an uncle Hector that lived in Thunder Bay who she believed was Eugene's brother but I'm not finding anyone by that name. I know what became of Arthur but Elmire is a total mystery. My mom seems to remember her living with Marie (who's husband died of tb fairly young) in Vernor, Ontario. I can't find either of them. Someone else's tree had a date of death for Elmire in 1949 with Paul Cote (maybe her brother or nephew) as witness in Vernor. Any pieces to the puzzle are welcome. Thank you. My e-mail is beyondwords@hotmail.com

I don't have Leotyne or Jules Alfonse. Would you tell me where you found info o them and do you know what happened to them. I did find the birth and death of Jean Joseph 1874-1876 in the parish records but may have mis-read other records there. My grandson is descended from Edmond through his father and they had no info on this line. I have really enjoyed researching and learning about the Acadians. Thank goodness for online translators since I don't speak any French....gerry in Texas

Thank you for the reply, Marius. You have a great website and I appreciate your info on Daniel and Emilie Fornier Damboise. They moved to Fall River, MA in 1889 with their 6 children to work in the cotton mills there. I couldn't find a death record for Emilie, who died after the 1910 census but did find this one for Daniel.
Massachusetts State Archives, Death Record vol 35, page 37. Cause of death was heart disease for 6 years and final 15 days Dropsy and Pulmonary Congestion. Living at 214 Flint, Fall River, MA at time of death.

gerry

Hi!
Sorry that I did not read your message before. Here is the answer to you question. Daniel was the son of Jean-Benoit, my GGG-grandfather. Daniel was born Oct 11, 1835 (not 1838) in L'Isle-Verte, QC. He married Émilie Fournier on January 28, 1868, in St-Octave-de-Métis, near Rimouski, QC. Émilie was the daughter of Calixte Fournier and Démerise Phocas-Raymond. Daniel was baptized under the name Bergeron and he married under the name D'Amboise.
Hi, I've recently started researching the Damboise family and hope you have information on the Daniel Damboise family found in Fall River, Bristol Co, Massachusetts in 1900. He was born Oct 1838 in Canada (FR. I think the FR means he was probably born in Quebec. His wife of 32 years was Amelia and sons, Edmond, Joseph, Leonidas, and Napoleon were born in Canada between 1874 and 1881. The 1920 census says they immigrated from Canada in 1890. Do you know who his parents might be? ANY help will be appreciated....gerry rollins

Arthur Damboise and Roseanna Bonville

Dear Edd,
Thanks for your answer. From my answer to your message in the Bonville forum, you know that Arthur and Roseanna were my uncle and aunt. I am therefore anxious to exchange any information concerning their family since we have, in Canada, no knowledge of uncle Arthur' family. I know that he left Canada around 1906 for USA. He came for a visit in 1966 but I believe that he could not communicate efficiently with the people he met, since it seems that he had difficulty speaking French, after 60 years... I did not meet him at that time, I learned about his visit at a later time. Arthur was the oldest in my grand father family (Paul D'Amboise + Philomène Malenfant). I have the full genealogy of the family, starting in France. I will put it on the web some time this year. Quite a few member of the family live in USA... Paul and Philomene had 13 living children: Arthur, Eugenie, Joseph-Jean, Charles (my father), Louis, Dominique, Rose-Delima, Isidore, Marie-Anne, Rosaire, Adèle, Emma and Théodore. If you want to exchange by regular e-mail, my address is: damboism@chimie.umontreal.ca. Thanks for any additionnal info...
