Hello Jackiedamiani22,
I just noticed your post about Damiani's in Popoli, Italy. I am interested to hear what information you have. I am related to the posts from David Damiani. We are first cousins. I am interested to hear how we may be related to you and the other posts from a Joe and Paolo Damiani.
I have been to Popoli and searched our roots back 5 generations. My Pop Pop's name was Alfredo Francesco Damiani, His father was Bonifacio Damiani, his father was Francesco Damiani, his father was Guiseppi Damiani.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Linda

Looking For Damiano & Damiani's!

Hello, I'm beginning to research my husband’s side of the family and am having a hard time with Damiano. His Grandmother is Antoinette B Damiano born 1925 died 2009. She was born in New York but moved to California mid 1900's. She Married Charles Shook had 3 children. (Charles, Teresa, Angela. divorced and then married a man with the last name of West.) Every one called her Toni.

I found a 1930 census with her name and possible father and siblings. Possible Father: Anthony. Mother Marie Del Nero Possible Siblings: Michael, Viola, Anna, Louis

I've got some more information! My aunt sent me this...

"Grandma Toni's (Antoniette) maiden name was Damiano. It is unsure whether it really was Damiani, as that is what is on different documents of her dads'. Her full name was Antoinette Beatrice Damiano. Hope that helps as genealogy can be difficult… Her mothers name was Marie Del Nero, she passed away when mom was 3 1/2 years old, January 29th 1929, I believe. Mom (Antoniette) passed away on January 28, how coincidental. Anyway, mom and Aunt Ann were sent to Paterson New Jersey to be raised by their aunt and Uncle, Teresa and Frank Del Nero. Her Aunt Teresa was her fathers sister, and her Uncle Frank was her mothers brother. Both blood relatives. Aunt Teresa died April 30, 1958. Uncle Frank death date I don’t know off hand.. "

I've also posted this in the Damiano messageboard as well.

Thank you

It's pretty obvious that my great grandmother came over in the 1870's and everything I find says Alexandria or Alexandra. The city of Alessandria is the closest that I can find. If anybody knows of another or is from this region I would like to here about it. thanks

I just checked this book : Our Italian Surnames, by Joseph G. Fucilla, published 1949, reprinted 1987. Page 22 says the name Dami is a pet form of Adamo, and is listed among "loppings". Adami is from the Old Testament. However, the index of names in this book does not contain DAMIANI.

Reg Niles (not a relative)

His three sons were Jules,Michele and my father Byron. they were all raised on Galveston from the early 1920's. Guess I am writing to seek out family and info.
Thanks,
Mark Damiani

I know he was born in October 21,1900. He died in 1981. He had one sister, Lillia, she moved to Canada. He was a shoe cobbler by trade. He came to Ellis Island, and then to Philadelphia, and then to where we now live, 30 miles north west of Philly, in a little town called Woxall. He married Mary Lobue, from Jersey City. He went back to Popoli at some point and I think started a church. He was a lay minister after a conversion on Ellis Island.

I would love to get a copy of the picture of Ada if you found it. My grandmother's passport has her name as Ada even though she went by Edith. I suppose it could have changed during the immagration process. Email me at catzlife00@aol.com if you found it. By the way, it looks as if we are related.

My grandfathers name was Luigi Grigioni. Our surname was changed for some reason to Grigoni during his naturalization. He came from Montesecco, a small village near San Lorenzo en Campo. We are taking our first trip to Italy next month to visit that area and hopefully learn more of my grandfathers (Nonno's) family. He came to America in 1903 and settled in northern Minnesota. He died in 1957 and his remaining children know very little of family history.

I think my grandfather (Nonno), Luigi Grigioni or Louis Grigoni was a brother to your grandmother. His sister married a Damiani, but I didn't know her name. He came from Montesecco around 1903. Montesecco is a small village near San Lorenzo en Campo. He settled in Chisholm Minnesota where most of his children were born. My father (John) being the 6th in line. We are going to Italy next month and will try to find info on him. My Nonna was Angelina Mattioli who of course would be your grandmothers sister-in-law. I presume.

Hope you find out more info on Filomena(sp?) when you are in Italy. Best of luck and it would be nice to know if you found out anything.

Damiani Family Tree

I'm looking for any information of a man with the last name Damiani who married my grandmother Florence Schwede from New Jersey. They had 2 possibly 3 sons. One was my father Albert. Florence either became a widow, divorced or separated from Mr. Damiani and then was married to or just living with Francesco Simoni. My father Albert has gone all his life living as a Simoni, but in fact is not a Simoni but really a Damiani. Would like to get info on the family as I am blood related.
I think they were from Pesaro Italy. These were my Great Grandparents. Filamina's maiden name was Grigoni or Grigioni. My Grandmother's name was Ada Damiani. I think they came here through Ellis Island around 1921. I am not sure if my great grandparents had any brothers or sisters. The birth certificate I have for my grandmother is in Italian.

If anyone has any information on these people it would be appreciated.
