Sargent John Damon whose father John Damon of Kent, England b. c1595. Last I heard there was well in excess of 100,000 descendants. I have the Damon book & the micro fitch film plus the index. I think the old boy who had the last copies published died. As I understand there was a number of the books that went unsold. My wife's mother was a Damon. Sargent John= Zach= Daniel= James= Amous?= Ira= John= John W.= Frederick= Agnes= my wife (think this is how it goes?)
Tom at bKennewick, WA

hi there,

I am not sure if we have the same person as we know very little about the Damon side. My great grand father was a Francis Damon, who had a daughter Jessie ( born in the 1890s, probably in Poowong). She was sent back to England to be raised by her aunt. Please feel free to contact me on trainmadsmum@yahoo.com if any of this rings a bell.

Susan Damon was married to George Crawford Dunlap who was my great grandfather. I have a photo that my grandmother had that no one can identify. We think she might be a Damon. I am going to try an upload the photo to you and see if you might know who she was. My name is Carolyn Wagner, Robert Eugene Dunlap was my father.

I did find Lewis Damon in the 1870 and 1880 census records in Kane Co., Illinois. He probably left NY for Illinois during the civil war. His wife, Susan Wheeler, was a couple of years younger than Lewis and they were both born in NY.
Archelaus Damon was his father. Parmelia Munn was his mother. Both parents were born in Mass.
Did you ever use rootsweb?
Here is a link to the Damon family: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

These old books are wonderful starting points for research, but often they are vanity books, that sugar coat relationships and elevate ancestors status in communities.
Be sure to seriously check the facts of your ancestors with state historical records as well as publications such as the one referenced.

Virginia Stockton
g grandaughter of Adelaide Damon of New Bedford, MA

Damon's of Scituate, Mass

I recently started tracing my family genealogy, and was suprised to find there were 2 or 3 Damon families who settled here from England.

In just over a week's time, I have found 200+ ancestors and I am eager to find more. I have traced the Damon's back to John Damon (1595-1637), BUT, have traced my GGGrandmothers (Lizzie Spear) all the way back to Ralph de Quesnay (1044-1086).
I have also found 2 Damon cemetaries in Mass with Damon and Spear ancestors.

Does anyone have any more info? I know it's out there! Pics, lithographs, family crests, etc...

I would be glad to send a GEDCOM of what I have in return for other's. LoL, I just have to figure out an easy way to create one first...

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to hearing from everyone.

My contact info is: turbodamon@gmail.com

I have been tracing out the Damon's for only a week so far, and have found over 200 ancestors, one line goes back to an ancestor came to England from France with William the Conquerer in the 11th century.

As far as I can tell, there were 3 main Damon families who came over from England:

One settled/founded Scituate, Mass from Kent, England (my line)...
One settled in Reading, Mass...
The third I am unsure of...

I have found numerous pedigrees, cemetaries, etc with information on my and the other Damon families' lineage.

If you know your great grandfather Damon's birth year and his wife's birth year, try Googling their name and birth date. You'll be surprised at what you may find!

This is a link to a book titled "Damon Memorial: Notices of Three Damon Families":

http://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89062874854;page=ro...

I only have his line back a few generations, but the Walworth line runs into the Jones line back to England. Nothing on her except that they were married.
Paul

I didn't ever find out why the name change. "John James Demming was the son of Caleb and Sally James Damon in Goshen 1 Jan 1808. He changed his name to Deming prior to 1850 as it appears in the 1850 census of Medina Co. Ohio. Later it was changed to Demming, as this is the way it appears in the probate copy of his will." This is from the "Damon Family of Scituate Mass. Genealogy" Written by Richard A. Damon Jr. anad nD. Bradford Damon.
