Hi, My great-great grandfather was Alexandre D'Amours (Damour, Demour). His estimated birthdate is 1860 in either St.Michel or Trois-Rivieres, Quebec. He was a seaman. He died in 1928. His father's name was George. The family story is that his family escaped the French Revolution, became a privateer, sailed with Jean Lafitte and fought in the Battle of New Orleans. Then over the years made their way to Quebec. The possible names mentioned are Phillippe, and Arturs.

I'm trying to distinguish between family story and fact. Does anyone have a Georges (pere), Alexandre (fils) around 1860 in any of their family trees? If you do please email me at andeyam @ gmail dot com Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking for a son of George D'Amours (variations). My great-great grandfather was Alexandre D'Amours. He died in 1928 in Lancashire, England. The 1911 census gives his birthplace as St. Michel, Quebec but I don't know which St. Michel it is. The only other information I have on him is that his father was named George. So I was wondering if you have a list of George D'Amours children?

Family stories say that Alexandre D'Amours Great-Grandfather's family fled France during the revolution. that he fought with Lafitte in the Battle of New Orleans and then went back to Quebec. I'd like to establish what is fact and what is fiction if it's possible.

I would be interested in the book by "Father D'Amour"; he became a Monsegnoir later. He was the pastor at St. Anthony's Church in Wells, MI in Delta County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.. I was and alter boy and served Mass with him many, many times.

Father was instrumental in building Holy Name High School in Escanaba, MI and later was appointed by Pope Pius XII as the head of all Catholic Education in the US. He was stationed in Washington DC. Later he was Pastor of a parish in Norway MI (Upper Peninsula). I visited him there around 1980. I heard later Father died of cancer - but no details.
I live in New Braunfels, Texas. Mrs. Hornstein was my great aunt. She was my father's (Bernith Terrien) mother's (Norma Colburn Terrien)who was married to Joseph Terrien. I lived in Wells, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from 1942 (birth) to 1960 when I joined the US Air Force. The town of Wells is outside Escanaba and about 65 miles from the town of Garden.. I had heard about the book by the Hornsteins; but was of the understanding that Mrs. (Marby) wrote the book.. Her sister Norma wrote and had published two books of poetry. Norma lived in Cornell (15 miles NW of Escanaba) and I believe more info can be obtained from the Delta County Historical Society (Escanaba).

My brother Terrance (Dallas, TX) or my sister Sharon Terrien Harrison (Cornell, MI) would have more info on the Terrien tree. They are both have gathered information on the family.

If I can help, please email me. Len Terrien

Hi Sharon,
My line comes from Quebec, not Montreal - not to say that they're not connected. There is a great book in the Ancestry.com card catalog, that you can find under Colburn. It is, "Colburn: a genealogical history (600 years) of d'Amours, Courberon, Colburn (1400-1982) in France, Quebec, Acadia, Wisconsin.
Best of luck,
Kristen

Hello Kristen:

my tree doesn't go very far back, just to the first D'Amour here in Montreal who married in 1733: Jacques-Joseph D'Amour. I'm not sure of his lineage before that. Can you help me?

Thanks, Sharon

Hi, my name is Joan DaMour and recently read a book written bay Walter Hornstein and Mary Colburn Hornstein. I got it on library loan from Northern Michigan University. "The D'Amour Family in Canada and Other Pioneer Families of New France." They are from Garden, Mi. in the Upper Pennsiula. It was very interesting for me. I learned much about Mathieu in Que. and was able to take my father back to Que. and I believe to France.
Marchand-Marchant tree is also very very good.

Tere is another book with almost the same Title written by a Monseignor Charles O'Neil D'Amour, Dominican order, of Delta, Mi. But I have not found it yet. I live in Livonia, Mich. Mr. Hornstein has a lot on the net. Good Luck Joan

Re: Marie-Madeleine DAMOUR Declingnancourt b.1687 - m. Francois GOGUET dit SANSOUCY

Hi,
You say that Marie-Madeleine Damour Declingnancourt and François Goguet dit Sansoucy were married on April 2, 1720. Are you sure? Where did you get this information? Is there any other information on Marie-Madeleine or François, such as the name of there parents or where they are from?

I am very interested by your discovery because I am a direct descendant from François Goguet dit Sansoucy and I never had any precision on their wedding date other than being on 1718 or 1719. Thank you very much for this new info...

Vital Damour m.bef.1853 Joselle St-Pierre

My Great-Great-Grandfather, Vital and Joselle (St. Pierre) D'Amour had a son Francis Xavier D'Amour born in 1853. Vital died of a "fractured skull" in Marinette, Wisconsin when he was 34 years old. Vital's parents may have been Maxime and Marie-Francoise (Cote) D'Amour. Francis married Mary Herrick (somewhere) and had a daughter Florence (Flora) while they lived in Bay City, Michigan (1881). It seems that a branch of the D'Amours from Canada passed through that part of Michigan. If you learn anything else about the family, I's sure be interested. Thanks for your reply.
