I think that John Steele Damron, who you describe as being married to Sally ? and living in Runnels Co, must be descended from George Damron who d 1795 in NC, and his wife Susanna Thomas who was b abt 1760 NC.

The children of this couple included:

1. John Thomas Damron, b October 15, 1788 Buckingham Co, VA, d May 13, 1880 Adair Co KY; m Sarah Winniford. b 1792 VA, d bef 1857 Adair Co KY.

2. Wilson Nicholas Damron b abt 1782 VA.

3. Mickey Damron b abt 1784 VA.

4. George W. Damron b abt 1786 VA.

5. Robert Thomas Damron b abt 1788 VA, d 1862 Casey Co KY (just up the creek from Adair Co); m Polly Warriner; issue: 1. William G. W. Damron b abt 1824; 2. Susannah Damron b abt 1826; 3. Martha Damron b abt 1829; 4. Mary Ann Zilla Damron b Jan 30, 1831 in Casey co KY; 5. Wilson N. Damron b abt 1834; 6. Sarah Damron b abt 1836; 7. Maria b abt 1838; 8. Patsy E. b abt 1840; 9. Eliza L. Damron b abt 1844.

I do not know whether all these Damrons came to Adair Co; however, it seems likely. The tie between your Wilson Nicholas Damron and the one above may be that your Wilson Nicholas is the grandson or great-nephew of the one above. At any rate, it seems quite clear that you can only make progress on this line by researching in Green/Adair/Lincoln/Casey Counties KY (which were created progressively later, and which may have been settled progressively later.)

I have several sources for the above information, not all of which would I consider trustworthy.

It may be somewhat helpful for you to know that there are links between this Damron family and the Winnifords, Mullicans, Esteses, Brocks, Gannaways, Robertsons, and Norvells, to name just a few. Apparently most of those families can be traced back to 1700's Cumberland to Franklin co area of VA together. Some Brocks and Damrons (including George's first cousin, John Damron Jr b May 19, 1791 VA m Sarah Elizabeth Shultz) went to Franklin Co and then to Sarcoxie area, MO before coming to TX in abt 1840. Offspring of many of the Adair County Ky and of the MO Damrons went to TX, notably children of John Damron Jr and Sarah Shultz and those of Moses Damron b 1772 VA m Selena ?, son of George Damron b 1752 VA and Elizabeth ?.
